Got my G60VX today from Best Buy for $979.99 without taxes. I am extremely satisfied. The only ones BB had were ones with Norton pre-installed and ones with their so called "optimization" which is a total scam btw for $40 more. All they do is remove bloatware and say they sped up your pc by 50%.
Felt great as it was my first purchase over $1000 paid for in neatly stacked $100 dollar bills.

Finally someone has tried it. ;)
2.13 to 2.3 is not much of a "TURBO" boost.
Are there different levels you can set it at?
Do temps get much hotter on the CPU and GPU?

ive done alot of experimenting with the street fighter 4 benchmark and different drivers.. the dox drivers ran the worst with extreme turbo on, the stock drivers were runner up with extreme turbo on and the newest nvidia driver 186.81 had the highest score. the 191 drivers ur talking about arent for the mobile gtx 260

I can run at 3.3ghz with no significant temp increase here with Extreme Turbo.

For some reason, I saw CPU-Z jump my multiplier to 12x (I'm fairly sure the T9900 only has 6x, 8x, and 11.5x) while doing the Windows Experience index (which boosted my CPU and memory while overclocked by 0.1 points - yay) which gave a reading of 3.4ghz. Not sure why though.

    Hey guys,

I just bought this laptop today, largely in part due to the positive reviews of it in these forums. Pricepoint was just right for my budget and thus far Im pretty happy. Anyhow I have some questions:

    1) What software did you uninstall? Is any of the ASUS bloatware worth keeping?
    2) What drivers are you using for the video card? I dont overclock or anything like that but I do want to try it at some point and just get more technically savvy in general.
    3) I saw reference in another G60 thread to a "hole mod". I couldnt find anything via google that detailed this mod for this particular Asus model. Can someone point me in the right direction?
    4) How hard is it going to be add the hard drive from my old laptop to this one?
    5) Any Windows 7 tips while Im asking questions? :)

Please feel free to add anything you think I should know about this laptop or recommended accessories. Thanks and I look forward to chatting with you all.

    Cheers,
    Chris

    1) There is no Asus bloatware. You can uninstall the other stuff.
    2) 186.82
    3) See "grab copper and drill" thread
    4) Not
    5) It's Vista Service Pack 3. No big whoop.

    CP,

Very funny. ;) As for the second hard drive, do you have to take the optical drive out or is there internal room for another chassis+HDD?

Also, for the driver updated, I couldnt find the one you recommended on the NVIDIA site. I was able to download a .cab file for the drivers. Im assuming you point Windows 7 at that .cab file when you upgrade the drivers via device management?

Big empty space for the 2nd HD when you open it up. No need for a cage, you can use some foam and mounting tape to keep the HD in place.

    186.82 - http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/24999-v18682-windows-7vista-64bit-nvidia/

Uninstall old drivers, driver clean, install new drivers.

Thanks for the link. Does it matter whether you uninstall via the Control Panel > Uninstall path or through device manager? For cleaning the drivers do you use Driver Sweeper or Driver Cleaner Pro? These appear to be the two programs of choice. Thanks for all the answers to these basic questions.

Control Panel (Programs)- you need to uninstall all Nvidia drivers, inclduing PHysx. Device manager if the uninstall doesn't take.

    Either cleaning program works.

    CP,

Thanks for the assistance, new drivers are installed. I just got my hard drive out of my old laptop. Im pretty familiar with cracking open laptops since I disassembled my toshiba multiple times but how much "stuff" is going to have to come out to get my hard drive in there? Also, Im assuming you are talking about a certain type of mounting tape for the hard drive since I dont think your garden variety double sided tape is going to last too long in the innards of a hot running laptop. Also where would you put the foam? Thanks for the patience with all the pedestrian questions.

Don't forget to install the latest PHysX drivers.

The HD does not get hot. My HD has never gotten hotter than human body temperature (35C). Regular mounting tape works fine - the whole point is to use its thicker foam as physical pressure to press down on the HD (tape HD to inside plastic, and put enough foam mounting tape so it makes contact with the backplate when it put it back on) so it alleviates pressure from the HD connector. Stick some foam in the empty space to prevent the HD from moving horizontally at all (not likely, since the connector is not easy to budge).

Hi guys, I am new at this forum.
This is the only thread that is close to an answer to my question (that I have).

So I bought myself a G60V... and I want to install a SSD hd (prior starting the laptop for the first time).

Underneath what piece of cover do I have to stick the ssd?
And what should I do to get it to work?

    Thanks :)

If you turn the laptop over, there is one massive panel that pretty much covers the majority of the bottom. That's the one you want to remove. You can put the SSD where the stock hard drive is already installed.

So I can unscrew all screws that I see (on the plate)? There are screws just beneath the surface but also a couple that are deeper. So all of them?

And, correct me if I am wrong, there is room for 2 hd's correct?
One stock HD and an empty spot that is about to be filled :D ?

Now how can I get the recovery dvd install windows 7 on my ssd?
I have changed the hd order in the bios.. my ssd is now hd 1.

Fingers crossed the recovery tool looks at that ;)

Okay, the recovery dvd is not an option.
It's an image of the 320 gig hd, so it always looks for this drive.

What you need to do is boot from the Windows 7 DVD that came in the box with the G60. You can do that by repeatedly pressing the "ESC" key upon powering up the laptop. Eventually you will come to a menu asking which device you want to boot from. Select your CD/DVD drive. ( Make sure your Windows 7 disc in the drive ;) )You will then get a prompt to "press any key" to install Windows. Do that.

After Windows finishes installing, pop in the drivers/apps disc that came in the box and install it. If you are unsure as to what you should install on the drivers/apps disc, it may be best to install everything. If you do install everything, the computer will be like it was after you first turned it on. (Software wise)
