You can't do 1280x1024 on this notebook due to the fact that its screen res is not high enough to do it (its 1280x800). You can't actually do 1280x1024 on the MBP either, since its screen is 1440x900, and for the G1S, I remember that Ken ran a ton of benches when it came out, so you can probably dig that up, and it should have 3DMark06 scores for both resolutions.

err.... i'm pretty speechless. I just ran 3dmark06 with my C90S (same res 1280 x 800) with cpu OCed to 2.8ghz and gpu OCed to 500/500. My score was just slighly over 4300. :(

Damn that oc 3dmark score is nice... what kind of fps gains do you get from it in games?

Ehh but the c90 will take upgrades when nvidia/ati release them

Either way, the F8sv scores are nice indeed

Exactly, people were talking about the samething last year when S96J (15.4" 1280X800) vs Z96J (15.4" 1680X1050) came out.

Those of who wants better readability at native resolution get S96J, Z96J for people who wants more workspace.

Well, with the S/Z96J, it was a much larger difference, and I personally think that WXGA 15.4" screens are slightly grainy due to the low res. But in a 14" notebook, there is very little difference between WXGA and WXGA+. Hence, I'd get the A1 simply because its a good deal cheaper, and ships a month quicker. But thats only me, and others will probably differ.

Yes, it's just that I'm trying to compare it with my mbp - and 3dmark06 normally tests at 1280x1024 not 1280x800. Mine gets around 4600 overclocked, and so I wonder what's the difference between 1024 and 800 in 3dmark points

3dmark06 defaults to 1280 horizontal pixels. If there are 1024 vertical pixels available it will test at 1280x1024, otherwise it will test at 1280x800, or sometimes 1280x768. Do you have the 17" MBP? Because the 15.4" MBP defaults at 1280x800 as well.

Anyhow, to compare the scores, generally speaking you can take 15% or so off of the 1280x800 score, which will give you a rough estimate. However you also have to take into account things like the CPU difference if you want to be halfway accurate.

Oh, yea, forgot about the 17" MBP. Go look up scores for the 15" MBP with the 256MB 8600GT, those should all be done in 1280x800 due to the limited resolution.

Nope, mine is 15" and it shows in 3dmark06 result window that it was tested on 1280x1024 ;)

I don't have advanced version so I test only on the default resolution available

P.S. One of the best documented scores for mbp so far is 4966@1280x1024 ;)

Do you run an external monitor? Because otherwise, that's not physically possible. Your WXGA+ screen doesn't have 1024 vertical pixels to test with.

Nope, but there is also scaling and it's the internal resolution in 3dmark06 that count not physical one...

The internal resolution cannot scale higher than the physical resolution, in any situation. Can you provide a screenshot or an orb link to a 1280x1024 test? Because I just can't see how that's possible.

    *EDIT*
This isn't F8, these are benchmarks for 2.4ghz macbook pro =)

    Here you go:

I've disabled the scaling and as far as I see it just draws it off-screen(i.e. my screen is 900 pixels high, and it has black lines horizontally on the edges and fully occupied vertically(which wouldn't be the case if it was 1280*800))

i could have sworn the f8sv from pictures had a generic mini coaxial port and an extra express slot inside for the analog tuner like c90s and g2s? if it doesnt then too bad. if it does it will work with the c90s tuner

Which seller has the best prices on the F8Sv-A1? And do you think there's any chance to get better prices on Black Friday?

That 1280x1024 on the 1440x900 screen thing is kinda crazy. Does that work with a lot of notebooks then?

As for the prices on the F8Sv-A1 - GenTech PC usually has really good prices, as does Excaliber PC. Try those two first, I'd say. And no, there probably won't be any better pricing on Black Friday.

Any1 has the F8SA-X2 with HD 2600 Video Card? I am not much into heavy gaming but with HD 2600 is sufficient for my light gaming and multimedia because ATI HD 2600 has VC-1 Hardware encoding whereas NVIDIA video card only use software encoding for VC-1. The HD 2600 is more of a balance for my usage: light gaming and multimedia.

Last time I tested without OC(it was on 163.xx) it was around 3900 - pretty much the same as G1s...

As far as I know, G1s is also 15.4" laptop and the benchmarks on this forum are also for 1280x1024(at least in "G1S 8600M GT vs F3SV-B1 8600M GS Benchmark" thread). F3sv too for that matter... Might be because F8 is 14" =) One thing I also remember is that on earlier drivers on mbp the tests were also in 1280x800 but it changed later on - dunno...

That's why I don't really like the idea of 1280x800 being used. In other threads people start to refer to f8sv having 4500+ in 3dmark06 - and I would normally assume it's 1280x1024 since quite a few of the laptops were rated in terms of this resolution results.

Yeah, the G1s is benched at 1280x1024 because it has a WSXGA+ screen. And the physical diagonal of the screen doesn't matter, windows doesn't even have a way of detecting that at all.

Your results are incredibly strange, I've never seen another user who got a default res of 1280x1024 on a WXGA+ screen. That's why for smaller machines you'll almost always see the default benchmark res be 1280x800.

You could also try other macbook pro users - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=139270

Still, the fact that the scores are pretty close for g1 and mbp means that it's 1280x1024, otherwise g1 would have been behind by much more...

The score is about right for running XP, I got 4595 and that's almost 4600 on WIndows Vista, 3DMark06 usually scores about 200 points more on XP.

But you are running at 1280X1020 and that's very good score.

no noticeable flex on KB since it has screws holding the KB.

As for heat, GPU at 70*C most of the time even when overclocked and 55*C at idle, runs quieter than V1S and G1S.

comparing this to the f3sv-B3 with 3gb, and f8sv with only 2gb... Are they equal?

I read somewhere that f3sv with 3gb of memory is equal to G1s. Is that correct?

The F3sv with 3GB can perform comparably to the G1s with 2GB in more traditional (non-shader intensive) games. In newer games though, the F8sv (and especially the G1s) would be noticeably better than the F3sv, even with 2GB vs 3GB of RAM.
