Introducing the Asus F6V: this 13.3" portable laptop balances portability with good performance at competitive prices. The F6V is the first line of scent-infused laptops released by Asus and currently come in four different scents. The F6Ve is the successor of the F6V with updated internals in the same chassis. Especially noteworthy is the ATI Radeon Mobile HD4570 GPU, which is among the most powerful GPUs to be found in 13.3" laptop.
Feel free to voice any queries or advice regarding the F6V/F6Ve, or any issues that were not covered in the main review articles.
As of 7 June 2009, this is also the Owners' Lounge for the F6Ve model, in addition to the F6V --- E.B.E.

It doesn't really have those flowers does it? I was looking on the Best Buy for Business site and saw that the specs would be perfect as a gift. Anyways, just looking for a confirmation before I submit an order.

You can get the black one without the artwork on the lid, and by looking on Newegg I think it's released as the F6V-X2.

The ones with the 'flowers'/artwork work on the lid are the scent-infused laptops with model numbers starting with F6V-3P08x. Here's a link to the Asus website showing the 4 different ones you can choose from, they both vary in fragrance and design:

I've got the Aqua Ocean one and currently writing a review on it ~
Should be up soon ~

Edit: I just saw the first post. ....>_< you finished the review first -
Just wondering, have you got any gaming benchmarks, and what kind of battery do you get using it lightly (work/web browsing etc.)
Cheers. -
Now if they could make a "new car" scent!
-
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
-
does F6 have LED backlit?
-
Is this laptop not popular, or is it a crappy laptop?
I am getting one but was just wondering why so few people own this laptop model? -
I guess it's mostly a case of not being popular, rather than a bad laptop.
Some F series hold up quite well (F8), while others have problems (F3). Time will tell which of the two categories the F6 falls in. -
I hope it falls into "quite well" categories, i had enough of my bad luck with bad laptop decisions......... 1: Compaq Presario V3000.... 2: IBM T31 3:Crappy old 2001 Compaq....... Going to lose my mind if the F6v ends up in the same categories as the mention above........
Any owners here that has any opinion about this? Other than from the review? -
Thanks for starting this owner's lounge, I have added it to the Info Booth and to the Reviews and Owner's Lounges index.

Soo excited! Cant wait till i receive my F6v... Hopefully within a week from now
I don't know if i should make a first impression review or not snice there is one, but i will try to do one if you guys want me to. -
I have my F6V now for 6 months and I have to say it is a very good laptop. I never had any problems with it and yesterday I played the Bioshock demo and was impressed by this small machine. I expected the worst regarding the low end dedicated graphic card but with medium details it was running really smoothly. I never had any software or hardware issues and no BSOD or similar things. I run the vista version it shipped with and everything works. I updated some drivers but in general I think the best is "never change a running system".
It is sad to see that this is still an underdog in the asus line of notebooks because it would deserve a better place. Cannot understanf how so many people can buy an asus computer like the G50 series with keyboard problems, overheating etc.... -
^Have you played Left 4 Dead on it yet?
-
No I haven't played it yet. I am not really a hardcore gamer and I am always a bit behind...Just ordered the full version of bioshock.LOL
-
lol, I'm not a hardcore gamer either. In fact i'm still playing StarCraft and C&C Generals, HL 1 and CS 1.6......
Which is one of the reason why i cant wait till i get this laptop, hopefully i can play some more "modern" game like CoH, L4D and possibly CoD4 -
I am playing since a few days Bioshock and I am really impressed how it runs on my little F6V-X1. Of course don't expect high details on highest resolution to be flawless. I am playing on medium details on a medium resolution of 1024x768 and it plays just fine. If you have a lot of enemies it becomes a bit choppy. A little bit tweaking helps a lot. I played also 800X600 with high details and that runs very smoothly too. I have to admit that for me gameplay comes before pretty graphics ( I still like to play System Shock 2).
Cheers,
Marco -
I received my F6V!!! FINALLYYYYY MUAHAHAHHAHAH.......
for all you other f6v owners! do you guys hear like the HDD or something on the right side of the laptop making like a noise? Like writting noise sometimes... -
Yes, I can clearly hear the hard drive spinning and sometimes it makes also clicking noise. I have a western digital hard drive.
Cheers,
Marco -
Interesting, WD harddrives are usually on the quiet side. But some level of noise is not an issue, it also depends on the model.
Make sure the clicking noise is not the spurious head parking that e.g., some Seagate drives suffer from (they misinterpret a command from the OS as a request to enter a power saving mode as far as I can remember). That could shorten the lifespan of the harddrive. Most likely though what you hear is just the normal seek noise that the heads do in usual operation. -
I know; I haven't expected that from WD hard drives either, but it seems to be normal. At least I haven't had any problems so far and I use my computer daily at work and at home. I do backups on a weekly base, just in case...
The clicking noise is the parking of the heads I guess. The normal seeking noise sounds different. -
Hmm if it does that too often that could in theory lead to a shorter lifespan of the HDD (since it is designed to take only so many head parkings; this operation should happen only when the HDD is turned off for power savings).
You could consider a firmware upgrade for the HDD, using tools supplied by the manufacturer. Check the Internet for other people with the same problem for this type of HDD. -
Nevermind that. I found it. Must have been blind.

Hi,
has somebody of the F6V owners the same small problem like me?
My touchpad somehow got a stronger flex over time (I bought it in October)and is making a clicking nose when pressed down on the left lower corner. It is not so serious because I almost never use it and for sure not worth to send it in as long as it is still working properly.
Cheers,
Marco -
If its under warranty why not? lol... I havnt got any problems yet with my Asus F6V since i never use the clicker thing.. i just tap the mouse pad instead of the clicker.
-
Also i fixed my harddrive noise, i just did a defrag and the noise is gone. lol.... Forgot to post this, i resolved the problem like a month ago
So far so good! This lappy been on for very long time and it performs pretty cool now since i bought a cheapy laptop cooler (Vantec Lapcool3). -
If you press the pad in the right lower corner down, then it has the clicking...
It flexes quite strong on that site of the pad.
Marco
I just finished playing Bioshock and I am playing now Mass Effcet. Runs very well with a resolution of 800X600 and medium details. Havn't tried yet to use higher resolutions. -
hmm, awkward, i don't have the same problem, or maybe it is not used as much since its still some what new...
Even if i try to add pressure the mouse pad hard it doesn't seem to flex that much... -
Hey,
I just finished playing Mass Effect on my F6V. It ran very smoothly and I never had any crashes, lock ups or stuttering. I used medium settings and a resolution of 800X600. Higher resolutions were running well too on medium settings. With high settings the game play was a bit choppy. I will try now dead space next.
Cheers,
Marco -
Sounds great, keep them coming and keep us posted
-
I am playing Dead Space. Great game. Runs very smoothly on high settings in 800x600 resolution. The mouse is sluggish but this is a general problem in this game and has nothing to do with the power of your computer.
-
How does it look at 800x600 resolution? and what FPS are you getting for this game?
-
I think it looks good on 800X600 but maybe I am not the right person to judge. I am playing not too many games and a 13.3 screen laptop is maybe not really the right gaming environment. FPS wise; I have no clue. I don't see stuttering, slowing down or freezing. As mentioned above, this game is best if you play it with a gamepad instead of a mouse. The mouse shows really sluggish behaviour. The game itself is really nice designed and the story is very good. I am very much about the story and gameplay rather than how nice it looks. There are only a few games that I really enjoyed: System Shock2, Deus Ex, Deus Ex: Invisible War, Thief series, Bioshock and Dead Space so far.
Cheers,
Marco -
How's everyone going with their machines? Out of curiosity, are people running the F6Ve with the ATI 4570?
-
I am running it with a reasonable degree of success until now. I know I am replying to a very old post but oh well.
Have a look at my review thread for details on what I mean by "reasonable degree of success". -

Hi,
Bought the F6Ve last week,
just checking does anyone face keyboard "floating" around the centre area? -
You mean flexing when you push the keys (maybe a bit harder)?
Yeah I have some flex in the upper-center area (as well as other areas). The keyboard on the F6Ve is definitely the worst part of this notebook, from a build-quality point of view.
Maybe also useful to know, my "A" key popped up (broken tab) after perfectly normal use... I am now waiting from a replacement keyboard to correct the problem (I'm using the "rightclick" key instead of A, as an intermediate solution). -
After many months with this laptop, i would say this laptop met all my expectations and more.
I didn't expect this laptop to run GTA IV, but it did! In fact, i'm half way through the game with this laptop! I can play it by 800xXXX (forgot what was the last number), with high render, and low graphics.
It can also play Prototype no problem, in fact i beat the game in 2 days!!!I can play the game with medium settings.
I can also play CoD4&5 on medium settings on 1240x800 (? i think it was), with not much lag or performance issue.
Only disappointment i have is the laptop battery life, and the cooling is not as great when i first received it (but i think i know why).
My GPU is ATI3470 not the 4 series btw. -
The fan is easy to remove on this model, just pop up the back panel and then with 3 screws the fan is off, and you can remove all the dust. Also clean the fan blades.
BTW: I posted an update w.r.t. the keyboard, here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=382222&page=4
Is the keyboard better on the older F6V model by any chance? -
ATM there are very few dust (even when i clean the fan from dust its still around the same temperature). I think whats causing this traumatic temperature increase is the external weather.
I know the fan is working, I'm just not sure why its reaching these temperatures that I'm not to fond of. It is not like its burning hot, its just high IMO for surfing the web and stuff (i think "casual stuff" would be the more suitable term).
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=394076&highlight=why+is+it -
Looking at the thread you linked I noticed you were running the notebook always in HighPerformance mode. That is not a good idea, as it pushes the CPU to higher speeds when it wouldn't need to run at those speeds.
Of course ambient temperature can make a significant difference.
Moreover it could also be due to degraded quality of thermal paste, but that's less likely (and would require voiding the warranty in order to fix). -
Hi, could someone please help me with replacing the LCD on this laptop? I´ve never opened it before and I really don´t want to break something. I´d appreciate every little help. Thank´s a lot!!!
-
Unfortunately we don't seem to have a disassembly guide for this particular model.
But maybe you can gather some inspiration from other models:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=122632#disassembly
LCD disassembly shouldn't be that radically different between models.
