Looks perfectly fine to me, with updated drivers etc. If I were in your situation, I would:

    1. Download Windows 10 onto a USB stick.
    2. Format and delete every partition, leaving you left with only one unallocated space partition.
    3. After clean installing Windows 10, try to reboot the computer and confirm that it takes less time than before.
    4. Install latest drivers, only the ones you need. See my post on the very top of the 145th page in this thread.
    5. Reboot once more, see if the time is good.
    6. Take notes of what software you install is slowing down your computer.

    Hope this helps.

Your Disk I/O is 100% usage, I think that is the main reason why your laptop stuck. Have you tried removing the Bitdefender from your laptop?

@EduardoDaVinci I have done what you said and it boots faster now and performance improved slightly, however, the UI lag problem is still present with the latest drivers from both Nvidia and Intel, I will post about it on Intel forums, I went to BIOS>Advance> DVMT Pre-Allocated Memory, the default was 64MB, I first increased to a maximum of 512MB the UI was still laggy, I went back and decreased it the minimum of 32MB rebooted and noticed good improvement (MPC-HC used to lag severely playing 4K videos, now it doesn't).

@Biao, IK Antivirus software can be demanding sometimes but it was as slow even before I installed BitDefender.

The issue with 4k and demanding video codes for that matter is whether it supports hardware acceleration. I faced a similar problem withwhen using MP-HC to watch a 4k video because apparently it was only using software decoding, but when I switched to the default windows 10 player it was as smooth as butter. And I have the highest UX501JW version with the 512ssd.

Anyone having Problem with low sound volume here is the solution that worked for me:
Download the ICEsound driver from asus site http://www.asus.com/Notebooks/ASUS-ZenBook-Pro-UX501JW/HelpDesk_Download/ mine is the JW version
Once you installed the ICEsound driver open it and select the Gaming Mode ,Volume will be increased noticeably
If you cant find the program after install search AudioWizard

Hey all - has anyone discovered a tiny microsd reader that will sit flush inside the SD slot? I'd like to expand the storage but don't want anything protruding. Do the aluminum ones made for Macbooks work?

After some googling I found out that Windows should activate automatically based on what hardware the machine had during the first activation.

That didn't work, getting the error message 0xc004f014.

Sadly, after owning this laptop since January 2016, I've moved on. The laptop itself is really REALLY impressive, but the screen is awful. 4K is either ahead of its time or bound to die the same death as 3D PC screens. Nearly everything I wanted to do was an issue. Remoting into work was a scaled mess. The older games I wanted to play were nearly impossible to get running correctly and all but the most recent applications had scaling issues. Even Logitech's own "Gaming Software" that configures it's gaming mice isn't updated for high DPI displays. I just had to move on.
So, I'm back to Lenovo. ...which kinda concerns me after all of the privacy issues they had recently with certain laptops. I bought the brand new Yoga 710 in 15". It isn't as fast as this ASUS, but the screen is in 1080p, has a near-edgeless display and ALL of the scaling issues are gone.

I honestly can't see how anyone who works and plays on a 4K display isn't screaming in distress.
    (sorry for the rant)

After a bit I realised it would auto-activate based on hardware.

Some things seems a bit off even though I installed the drivers Eduardo suggested. When re-sizing windows there's some ghosting and the sound (music is the only thing I've tried so far) seems a bit off.

Hi everyone. My first post in this thread. I got a Zenbook UX501VW-US71T today. It looked pretty good until I opened File Explorer in Windows and saw a very noticeable blue tint on the screen. See the picture below. The laptop on the right is the latest Razer Blade (which I'm also trying out - its good but 14" screen is too small for me). You can clearly see the ASUS on the left has a blueish screen.

Is this a known issue with UX501VW-US71T, or did I just get a defective screen ? Any fixes for this ? The laptop is in complete stock condition at max brightness when the picture below was taken.

    Those of you with ux501vw

Have you noticed while plugged in, your battery still drains to 95%, and then recharges?

    hey guys,
I own a G501vw and have already asked this in it's thread but nobody answered. since these are practically the same so I ask it here too:
is it possible to upgrade the battery to 96whr model?
I already upgraded the m2 ssd and removed the hdd so there is more room for the battery.
oh and anyone knows the part no. for the 96whr model?
    thanks in advance.

For those of you with the 1TB HDD model, it doesn't come with the super fast M.2 Samsung SSD, but I'm wondering does it also have M.2 port?
I mean same model number laptops should carry the same boards, right? the board is (N501VW).

I am willing to add a M.2 SSD to boost it but I wanna make sure it has the port without opening it and losing my warranty. so I am asking you guys if you have information?

I also wanna take out that slow crappy HGST HTS541010A7E630 1TB SATA HDD and replace it with some 1TB 2.5" SSHD 32GB NAND
but I noticed that 2.5" drives have different dimensions and IDK if it would fit inside our UX501VW or not, as described that SSHD has a z-height of 9.5mm compared to that 7.0mm of the one already in our notebook, since our mighty laptop is supposed to be "thin" should I be worried about purchasing that SSHD off the internet then have troubles fitting it in? if anyone has tried a 9.5mm drive with our laptop can you please confirm that we can fit it in?

    would appreciate your help.

you can open it yourself without losing the warranty. The bottom panel was meant to be user removable.
There are no stickers. Get yourself a T5 torx and unscrew that.
Stack 3 credit cards on top of the hard drive and see if you can still close the bottom lid.

Yes, the motherboard is the same, and the nvme pcie slot is there. Others have added a samsung 950. You just need an extra screw, or take one of the hard drive screws and transfer over.

Hey guys. I recently bought the ux501, and contrary to a lot of responses in here I'm pleasantly surprised by what you get with your money, even if it isn't a small amount. Hopefully that stays that way. However, my only problem is the lack of accessory support by almost anyone. I've been looking now for a few days in attempt to find something of a hard shell case to protect it better, given how not cheap it is, but I've found nothing. I'm just wondering if anyone has come across something like this, or have found a vendor that makes cases, hard shells, etc for the ux501. Thanks in advance

Anybody noticed this screen flickering issue? It can easily be reproduced by using facebook app for windows 8.1! I saw somewhere that someone also produced it by doing an internet speed test on a Swedish site.

Does anybody know if it's safe to play heavy games on this computer long-term?

I've been measuring the temperatures with RealTemp while playing Dota 2, and found that it tops at as much as 95 °C. It runs consistently at around 75-80 °C. When putting my hand underneath the computer after running the game for some time, it feels very warm - almost to the extent that it gets painful.

Any potential solutions that really work without having to unpack the computer? Thanks.

Yes it does get extremely hot while playing games and rendering stuff (it would burn my skin if I keep touching it), I avoid gaming or rendering for a long time because of high temps too.
If you gonna go long term I think you might need something like that.

relax, the gpu throttles big time when it gets hot. It goes down to 400mhz, and you can run it (like crap) all day at that speed.

You might try removing the lcd screen lid, sliding off the plastic hinge cover in the middle to give the exhaust more space to move hot air, reassemble.
There will just be a big gap where the hinge cover is right now.

Thanks for your response, Qu and Link. Will definitely buy a cooler. There's so many to choose from, so I haven't really cared to look it up properly yet. As for removing things that was built for the computer, such as the plastic hinge cover beneath the LCD screen lid, I won't do that. That would probably cause other troubles long-term, as the stuff's there for a reason.

So many people on the internet seem hysterical about high temperatures on their computers, but like you say Link, I think we should sit back, relax, and let this high-quality piece of machine do its work.

I'll still get a cooler though. Just 'cause I dig this machine.

nah. it's cosmetic. Just a bunch of ugly wires and screws. [IMG]

You could put a piece of foil over that area if you're afraid of cooking anything, if you don't care about looks.

This is the "mod" I would do since it's always sitting on my desk.

I seriously think we have overheating problems because there is not enough clearance for the exhaust. It's similar to Dell's xps15 in this respect, and they have overheating issues as well.

Have you ever tried to obstruct the exhaust on a laptop? or even have dust clog it up? The 501 is almost like that with the hinge cover blocking the exhaust flow.

My own 2 cents about the temperatures. Today for example, I played for like 2 hours the well known Deus Ex Human Revolution. Having installed throttlestop, I have reduced turboboost and lowered max clocks, in accordance with some general guidelines talking about downclocking slightly the cpu in order to keep the gpu running higher for longer. In addition, I've been using a very simple notebook cooler that is even smaller than the size of the laptop. So, while playing, I never got a message from Throttlestop informing me about high temps. Which means that the temperature never arose above 78-80 degrees. And I have the UX501JW model. So, in my opinion, with a little tweaking, a small maintenance and a good laptop cooler, there's not much to worry about this laptop, unless something is very amiss...

Asus tech support replied. Goes as follows

    Thank you for the inquiry.

The UX501VW-DS71T and UX501VW-US71T has the same specifications.

The UX501VW-US71T was a Microsoft signature model but is now sold through other resellers.

    The UX501VW-US71T comes with a 512GB M.2 SSD and the UX501VW-DS71T
512GB Solid State PCIe G3x4 Storage.

All other specifications are the same.

Amazon now has the UX501VW-US71T now on a discounted pri
    ce.

What is the difference between these two SSDs? Which is better?

Im having trouble with my ux501 (matte screen, 1tb hdd)...im not sure if its a recent windows update but now i cant use power saver mode at all. Usually when i click it, the battery icon below gets a tiny green icon but now i click the saver mode on then nothing happens. I check the settings and its turned off even after turning it on again and again. Is anybody else experiencing this?

that doesn't fix anything for me. My usb-c hdmi adapter still has random display cut out. The pattern of cut out has no rhyme or reason. Sometimes it could go hours without blinking, sometimes it blinks many times in an hour.
This is the worst of it...
