I found a complete driver pack for XP on German website.
Here : http://rapidshare.com/files/103596647/X55SV-Treiber.rar
Anybody wants to test it?
Is that also working on English XP? -
What are these drivers for?
-
Hi there
Are you able to play games like WoW, Sword of the new World (Granado Esparda), Heros Online etc on this laptop?
I'm tossing between this model and the Dell Inspiron 1720 (GE 8600M GT) both around AUD$1700ish.
My purpose is gaming and a bit of java programming.
Cheers

for a X55SV?
-
I got my X55SV for music production because my older and slower ASUS was really good.
I have VISTA and was thinking of running back to XP so thanks for the driver info.
I am not so sure now as it has a Ricoh chipset in the firewire port. All manufacturers are apparently going for these cheaper peripheral chipsets to lower costs. This is a bit of a disappointment but for general work and Video watching this machine rocks my socks.
VISTA so far seems to be relatively stable for general stuff but may be when I try to record multitracks or run musical intruments through the MOTU I will find lots of problems to to with "Blister" OS and the fw port. -
What software do you use for music production? I wouldnt mind keeping in touch just to share experiences with this notebook for audio work.
I will be running Mackie Tracktion as it's nice and lightweight and seems to have some pretty cool features (like inserts per audio region and/or audio track), FL Studio cos I bought it ages ago and it's a pretty nifty tool (although I wasnt really able to play the demo song without glitches on my X55SV) and Pro Tools (M-powered) being that its fairly standard for moving files between studios etc.
Anyway... I'm going to try and get the X55sv running in the morning with XP again. I was thinking of setting up a DAW partition (about 80gb), General partition (internet, office, etc of about 60gb) and then having a 100gb DUMP partition for bits and pieces...
Oh yeh, I also bought a Western Digital Home Edition 500gb drive which has eSata - I hope to record multi-track onto it as its a 72000rpm drive and eSata is meant to be quick quick quick....
My audio interfaces - M-Audio NRV10 (firewire), M-Audio Fast Track Pro (awaiting delivery), Zoom H4 (portable stereo recorder which also acts as a USB audio interface).
I got most of the drivers so far from here.
Also found this DPC latency checker to try and monitor any CPU spikes in hardware / software thats running... so far its been interesting, a fair few spikes here and there... tried disabling a lot of the devices in device manager to try and tame it but still early days and havent figured it all out yet...
So yeh, please share any experiences you have and keep in touch in case there are any new advancements on getting this thing running sweet for sound.
Cheers,

I'm interested in buying one of these laptops, but I can't find a professional review of it anywhere online -- does anybody have information/a website review? Or does anybody want to talk me into purchasing one of these laptops? -- I'm nearly there, but there are other models on the market around the $1600-mark that are comparable. Any info/suggestions/comments welcome.
Thanks! -
Also, one thing I can't find anywhere (including the website where I am purchasing it: www.mln.com.au) is screen resolution and battery life. Is it at least 3 hours?
Thanks. -
I don't think there's any Asus notebooks currently on the market that has more than 3 hours of battery life. It's usually more like 2 to 2.5 hours.
Here's a German review of the notebook. You can use google to translate it to english.

Thanks for the schmicky-micky review ...not sure what happened with the translation there!
One last thing...can anybody comment on the brightness/crispness of the screen on the X55sv? I can't find a model to look at, but I've looked at similar Asus models, including the M50, and really liked both. But I can't find the resolution on the X55sv...is it the same as the M50? Is it glossy (is that the colour shine?) or is it just a flat-colour screen?
Thanks! -
Ive got an X55SV and it is so awesome! I recommend it to everyone. Its a perfect all round computer. I use it at school and when I come home its my gaming computer. I got it in Australia for $1300! Best laptop I found for that price.

Hi everybody. I own a x55sv, and i think it rules. is the best notebook for me at least.
The only thing i don't find on internet it's a service manual (guide). I like to know more about my notebook, but i really don't want to messed up something.
So if anyone find something like that, please help me.
Thanks a lot... -
What exactly do you want to know?
A generic notebook manual will be found on the support.asus.com website. If you're looking for a disassembly manual, that's a different matter. -
hi, that's exactly what i'm looking for.
But i will tell you what i want to do, maybe, someone can help me
1. change de DVD-RW unit
2.maybe change the cpu if it's possible
Thanks again -
1. That's usually along the lines: remove one to three screws on the belly of the notebook that keep the ODD in place, pull it out. Reverse operations to put it back in.
2. It is possible but it will void warranty (and disassembly is indeed more difficult since it requires heatsink removal). What tasks do you think will improve with a better CPU? Note that gaming is usually GPU-limited, not CPU-limited. -
Yes, you are right. I don't have ant warranty so that's not the problem.
Anyway, i'm afraid i didn't understand how it work with the dvdrw unit changing, can you please send me a link with more infos or something.
Thanks -
Have a look at some of those disassembly guides that I linked before, they are sure to give an idea.
As to the CPU, it will require heatsink removal. Pop the bottom panels of your computer (this is very easy to do) and look -- perhaps you can remove the heatsink directly and then your problem is over. Sometimes though heatsink requires top or bottom case removal since it's a big component. -
Thanks. I've just opened the back of the notebook, and it's really easy to change the cpu. Of course i didn't change it because i don't have any replacement yet . i don't even know what should i look for, but it was a just a question (maybe you can help me with that too... )
I saw the guides you posted, they are awesome. Good work. Thanks again.
