Well I mod them into the bios fine, but it won't flash, I believe these bios's are digitally signed or they require a newer bios editor not yet leaked.

I have never seen the issue on any of the motherboard bios's I have modded on pc's

I will have to read up if I can override the digital signature.

And yes there are options in the bios to oc the 4000HD

    Hallo?

I just bought a UX32VD a week ago, and I'm still waiting for it to get here.
I'm planning to buy an 8GB RAM and SSD
Should I just go for Crucial M4, or the Samsung 840? (@ 250-256GB)
For the RAM, I'm looking @ this
    Newegg.ca - Mushkin Enhanced Essentials 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model 992038
    or Wintec...
    Newegg.ca - Wintec Value 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model 3VH160011S9-8GR
or should I go for the Patriot ultrabook one?

I'm also planning to install a fresh Windows 7 over the Windows 8. I just can't stand with Windows 8 and its interface.

    The specs:

    Core i5-3317U
    Nvidia GT620M
    6GB RAM
Generic 500GB HDD, 24gb iSSD cache I think....

Installed an SSD on my new UX32VD, and installed win 8 on to it. At the end of all the software updates and driver installs, I did the BIOS update to 213. The notebook now refused to get out of the bios. After enabling CSM, disabling secure boot and disabling fast boot, I was able to get out of the bios. I decided to experiment with it and put the the original 500GB hard drive in and reset the bios to optimized settings and it booted fine. As soon as I put the ssd back in, it refused to leave the bios using the optimized settings. I noticed there is a EFI System Partition on the 500GB hard drive that is not in the SSD I installed which leads me to believe bios refuses to boot into the ssd because the EFI isn't there. Is there any way to transfer the EFI to the SSD? It's not an accessible partition, but is visible in the Disk Management tool.

If you bought from XoticPC call them and ask. If you did not buy from XoticPC call them and pretend you did.

If someone answers faster great. But I am not joking Xotic does this all the time. I swapped a 830 SSD at point of purchase.

Side note: Have you guys seen the M$ adds for the surface? I mean come on. You would think they invented touch. They are a day late and a dollar short. So now they come out with this Windows 8. I touch my phone because dragging a keyboard around sucks. If you touch my computer screen going to be problems. Greasy grimmy what is Windows 8?

You can find the default BIOS image on your C: drive named "UX32VD.BIN". You can always restore to that independent of the current image version.

The System recognizes on its own, if you start e.g. a game and changes from the intel to the nvidia card.

I have some further questions: How can I know that the express cache solution is really working? Probably Windows runs from the standard HDD and the integrated SSD isn't used? I have the i7 Version of the notebook. Are 1080 Points in 3D Mark 2011 a normal result for this system?

    Thanks!

To get the Nvidia to always work with certain apps go into Nvidia control panal. Find the app and set it to the "high performance 620m". or hit the "global" settings and set always run the 620.

In Windows 7 I can also right click on an icon from the desktop in dropdown a choice on which GPU is an option. Takes you directly to Nvidia control panel useually with the app for the icon in place to easily adjust.

Edit: Hambuger I think those results are what to expect. I get 1413 when I OC.

Edit: Nvidia control panel is not the Windows control panal.

I have to say I'm quite impressed with the 620M. It brings more than twice the performance of the HD4000 (which is way faster than HD3000) in most games I tested.. and that allows me to play some interesting titles at the native resolution. I have no problems with BF3 single -player 1280x720 @ medium settings, Left4Dead maxed @ 1920x1080 + MSAA 2x, Batman Arkham City 1920x1080 @ medium (PhysX off), Super Street Fighter IV AE @ 1920x1080, and Rage @ 1920x1080 + MSAA 2x... many UE3.0 and source engine games run fine at 1080p, which is great for a slim and light laptop..

ASUS-UX32VD pointed out in another thread that memory OC is more effective than overclocking the core in 3DMark11. Im guessing that the GF117 is severely bandwidth limited by the 64-bit bus and I might test how a 100-200mhz memory OC affects the performance on some of the latest games.

I believe it's for hibernation, the RAM content is written to disc. If you have disabled hibernation you could erase it.

I have a Samsung 840 pro series 256gb in UX32VD and two 128GB Crucial m4 in raid 0 in my desktop. The two m4 together exceed one Samsung in seq read but fall far behind in seq write and 4k read and write. I think I would stick to Samsung for my next ssd purchase (or OCZ vector which is on par with Samsung).

The Graphics WEI on my ux32vd used to be 5.9. Today I upgraded the HD and did a clean Windows install on it, and after installing the latest intel graphic and nVidia drivers, flash the newest BIOS, the Graphics score dropped down to 5.0. Any ideas?

What a great thread! I figured a few solutions out for my new ASUS though I still have a few annoying issues : /

I clean installed Windows 7 Ultimate into my laptop on the SSD that I had installed, after updating all the drivers, my webcam worked once, but now it's not working at all. Skype or Lifecam can't detect it, is their any solution to this ? What could be causing this?

Also, my sandisk is not appearing under my computer, though it appears under device manager, what gives? : / I'd like to utilize it as a second HD for my music

Are their any solutions to my problems? Thanks for reading!

    EDIT:

Stupid me, I had the disk unallocated ..... >< I fixed it, though the webcam still remains an isssue!

My apology I did not see yr post until today.

I bought mine at LifeABC, you can do a search on "UX32VD Hong Kong price" on Google and jt will pop up. The guy there is very nice to deal with, just call and go pick up at Mong Kok area near to Mongkok computer centre. Located at golden rooster tower, 28th floor. Price is very good.

I installed a Samsung 830 SSD (now discontinued) 256GB and 10GB RAM, now the machine screams - powers up about 15secs for Windows 7. I run Lightroom 4 and other stuff and the screen is just superb for photo editing. The 24GB iSSD is used as permanent cache for drivers and apps if I need to reinstall OS and stuff. Better not to use Win8 as I think it is designed mainly for touch based machine, you have to move the mouse a lot more than Win7, especially when viewing pics.

When insert the SSD, be careful not to severe the wire to the woofer beside the HDD.

    Encountered no problem whatsoever.

I've been messing around with touchpad drivers, and have found the elantech drivers version 11.13.0.2 to be the best do far.. I was running newer drivers, but I accidentally installed these on a second ux32vd, and found them to work much better in terms of working as they should. The newer ones had a real issue with always thinking i was holding down the 'mouse button' to select text. So if you're experiencing that sort of problem, I suggest giving these a try!

    Hi everyone

I was wondering: does anybody have problems regarding installing a newer version of the 620m driver?
Every time i try it fails, in fact, i can only install 1 driver, which is the 306.97 version, and it only installs trough windows update. I cant do it manually.

I just updated to the lastest. 310.90. I couldn't do it through the nvidia control panel, but I only tried to update it after updating to the latest intel hd4000 drivers. I had to go to the nvidia site and download the update from there.

After testing a bunch of different touchpad drivers I have found one that makes the touchpad a 8+/10 imo.

I can't remember where I downloaded it from, but I put it up here: Elan_touchpad_11.7.8.5 (Its a Samsung branded version).

After installing you would want to adjust some of the settings in Control Panel -> Touchpad:

    View attachment 91490

    Click advanced:

    View attachment 91491

For me this will make the touchpad very stable, smooth and non-jumpy.

Only thing I'm missing is the fn+F9 button to disable touchpad manually when I use my Razer Orochi (automatic works fine, but want manual). So if anyone have a solution for this, I would highly appreciate it.

Wooo Found a guide to get around the bios encryption

I have updated my HD4000 to the latest intel released bios 11/23/2012

I will mod the Intel SATA OROM to 11.6.0.1702 next and unlock bios features !!!

I can provide a guide on how to do this... so people can backup and make there own custom bios's if they require !

    Hi,

Unlike what ragwo suggested the 4GB partition on the SSD is there as an "over provision" see the article on wikipedia :

Write amplification - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The third level of over-provisioning comes from end users to gain endurance and performance at the expense of capacity. Some SSDs provide a utility that permit the end user to select additional over-provisioning. Furthermore, if any SSD is set up with an OS partition smaller than 100% of the available space, that unpartitioned space will be automatically used by the SSD as over-provisioning as well.[22] Over-provisioning does take away from user capacity, but it gives back reduced write amplification, increased endurance, and increased performance."

So this 4GB are there just to give some "breathing space" to the SSD. If you want your SSD to last you better leave it untouched.

Hi, I also installed these drivers after seeing your post and I like them very much. There is only one problem. I can't zoom out. If I pinch my fingers together it zooms in and if I move my fingers apart it also zooms in. So it zooms in both ways. Is it the same for you? What might be the solution? I tried installing and uninstalling several times...

edit: I discovered it only happens in Firefox. Works fine with other programs, so other than that, these drivers are good. Would still like to know hot to fix the issue in Firefox though.

so, it seems that asus started shipping a new load of UX32VD prime ultrabooks in the last 2 weeks.
what I wonder now is whether they fixed the touchpad issues or not?

    can anyone confirm this?

    FYI I live in Belgium ( Europe ) so I am talking about UX32VD-R4002 v or H..

    thanks in advance

Ok well once I mod the new video bios in, the new video bios doesn't initialize until windows, so no bios access :/
But I did Mod the Bios itself to access the thermal config as a test it works!

So I can unlock anything in there including memory settings, cpu settings.

Did you copy the stock recovery image / partition to the iSSD? I am installing and was thinking thats not a bad place for it?

I updated to bios 213 and all was working well for a week. I picked up a Mushkin Chrono deluxe and 8 gb ram, I am having all kinds of trouble to install on the SSD. I created a backup bluray via usb burner and a recovery USB stick, before swapping in SSD and ram, I have been through the menu's to recover and nothing will create an image on the ssd. I see that the ssd is recognized in the bios and have tried disable security and other settings, this is very frustrating and irritating that there is not an easier way to recover the system to a new HD in event of failure or replacement, any help appreciated.

also, I have a windows 7 pro dvd and havent gotten that to boot, and I have tried running the original HD w/ a sata to usb adapter to try and run the recovery partition from.

Does everyone's Web Camera work? Or did I overlook installing a driver that is causing my webcam to not be detected?

Under the Device Manager everything is apparently detected so I'm at a loss, why is my webcam not being detected? Anyone have an idea?

I don't have "Image devices" under my device manager, so what exactly am I missing? What driver should I install? This undoubtedly solves my problem, the fact that I am missing something crucial for the device to work, I thought I had installed all the drivers, I suppose not.

At the same time shouldn't I see an "unknown device" listed under the device manager if I am missing a driver. I've read elsewhere that I wasn't the only person to come across this, but their opinion is that their camera cable within the system itself may have been severed, I'm hoping that this is not the case for me, it was working after the clean installation for a short while, so I am at a loss.

    Please help peeps :(

hello all, new to this forum. just picked up ux32vd with windows 7 at times hotkeys were extremely delayed (as in literally a 30sec delay in muting or sound up after pressing the key). other times it seemed to react fine. realized that the delay would occur after trying to use f5 to dim screen. f5 never works to dim screen. and after i attempt to use.....none of the hotkeys seem to work. then all of a sudden....30sec later, they all start popping up on the screen. any ideas here?

im not a usual forum poster. am replying to the thread. wasnt sure if this was the right way to do this. apologize if not.

My understanding is that you cannot use the stock recovery partition to install the system on a new drive since it needs the exact original partition table (that is on the stock HDD) before proceeding with re-installation.

I simply put the SSD in; did a fresh installation of Windows 8; and then installed the drivers and utilities I wanted. After I felt satisfied with it, I used the Windows 8's built-in utility to create a system images that I have stored on the iSSD. This image has been created out of the system that has already been installed on the SSD so it mustn't have any problem with re-installation should it ever be needed.

If you look in the messages further back in the thread, you will find more details about the procedure. If there are still some questions, don't hesitate to ask. I don't frequent this forum as often as before since I am now looking around to purchase a used nice and reliable 4x4 SUV. So it may take a while before I answer questions.

I have noticed a device disconnecting and reconnecting by the default sound in which you would hear a usb being disconnected or reconnected. So I immediately entered the device manager and sure enough I saw my "image device" for a brief second then it disappeared again, how can I determine if this is a hardware or some sort of conflict with another software program that would cause this :(...

I need my webcam in the future since I'll be living in Japan and frankly it's a pain in the ....

So I have my UX32VD, upgraded to 10gb ddr3 and Samsung 840 PRO 256gb and I love this thing!

Installed fresh copy of windows 8 and most of the drivers from the asus website but I can't seem to change the CPU speeds in the advanced power configurations... :( The option just isn't there in none of the modes and the i7 is steady @ 2,4 ghz.
Offcoarse that's not really neccessary all the time and it's a pity not to have the TURBO speed once in a while.

I installed all the intel drivers like
Intel® Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Drive
    Intel management etc.

Have I missed something? Does anybody know the software for the dynamic acceleration?
