    Seeking opinion on a cooler.

I'm considering this cooler as it has dust filters and dust is an issue in my basement apartment.

    https://www.amazon.com/IETS-Cooling...07WVK2ZZ9/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

It's design works very similar to a homemade cooler I made once that just forced air though the side into the box the laptop rested on. What didn't go into the system went out the sides underneath, but it was pretty decent in the cooling department.

Since the back end lifts up and the seal will be broken, I'm a bit iffy on how the vent in the back by the screen will interact.

This is my other option [no filter]: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CGMHP24/ref=sspa_dk_hqp_detail_aax_0?spLa

    Thnx!

What about 4900hs vs 4800hs.. is the cooling the same and are the temps/noise same or one is maybe hotter/more noisy?

To me the 4800 vs 4900 situation is like the 1700 vs 1800 situation back in the ryzen first gen days.

You're paying more for a negligible performance gain. I'd just go with whichever is cheaper unless you're into benchmarking and want the top binned chip.

Ok. Seems like there are no available models with 16gb soldered in Europe atm.. at least I didn't find.

Yeah the whole G14 launch has been weird with different regions getting different models and colors.
Here in the USA there is no RTX 2060 16Gb 120Hz screen model in the darker color only in White but you can get the darker color with that configuration in the EU and other markets.

Is it possible to have G14 quiet with 2 1080p50 videos in chrome and several other programs opened?
I would use laptop in light load for 95% of the time but I'm worried about fans being too loud. Other 5% is high load but I don't care about noise in that instance.
My current N550JV (it-4700HQ, 15gb, 750m) is silent but throttles and "lags" with 2 high quality videos opened.

Hey all! Just picked this up last weekend. Coming over from a 32GB XPS15 9560, I'm actually shocked how much an improvement it is in Solidworks.

My one issue is the screen seems a bit... washed out. Anyone know of a good way to color correct it?

Well, so at the end purchased a G14, RTX2060 4800HS in black because this was the only configuration available in Spain. Still, I have to get used to the thing, but these are my initial impressions:

    • The black keyboard is a big oof. Basically, if you turn the backlight off, you can't see anything (fantastic if you are a ninja typer). And brightness is mediocre at best. Also, the homogeneity of the illumination is not very good. But at least secondary key functions are backlit.
    • Asus Armory Crate is appalling. I've never seen such a visually bloated and complicated piece of software. New adrenalin drivers are close thought. I mean, not every software has to be so sparse like nVidia control pannel, but jeez.
    • On the flip side, the laptop works without Asus Armory Crate thanks to the fantastic utilities like Autofrac, Ryzen Controller and MSI Afterburner. Really, this is a welcome change (yes, I'm looking at you Alienware!).
    • Can't talk about performance much yet, but my RTX 2060 can do +220MHz on the GPU core. This will be promising once I start playing with curves.
Well, now I just must get this thing set up and have my A51m repaired so I can sell it.

Everything is coming up nicely, but I'm encoutering two issues :

    1. When launching cinebench the screen goes black and fans go highwhire. I have to hard reset.
    2. Call of Duty MW can't run, displaying error 6808.

I've unistalled Asus Armoury Crate. Running BIOS 212, Atrofac, Ryzen Controller and MSI Afterburner.

So far rest of programs and games work OK. Any ideas?

Edit: I think I have narrowed it up to Ryzen Controller. It appears this program doesn't work very well with the 4800HS

I assume you are on battery? Disable AMD varibright in AMD Settings. Maybe you also changed the Color profile in Gamevisual by accident, check that too.

Note that you only can Change TDP and Boost TDP and no other values with Ryzen Controller. All other values lead to unexpected results.
Also try this as a better alternative: Renoir-Mobile-Tuning on Github.

No, any change on Ryzen Controller crashes Cinebench.

Also, the turbo behavior of the 4800HS is way different of that from the 4900HS. The 4800HS will boost up to 55W for 1 or 2 seconds and drop to 42W indefinitely.

On which Armoury Crate profile? Every Profile has ist own boost profile. Are you sure with 42W indefinitely? Usually the second boost step lasts for 150s, so you cannot see a drop in one Cinebench run.

Well, installed Armoury Crate back. No change. The CPU boosts up to ~55W and after a couple of seconds goes don to ~42W (Turbo mode enabled). The 4800HS has indeed different boost profile to the 4900HS.

@Biker Gremling Yes, the boost Limits differ. But nevertheless, there is also a time limit for the 42W stage.

The Zephyrus G14 in the review is certainly a wrong choice
of opponent chosen in this review to compete with XMG Apex15

With it's slim profile, heat certainly build up in the Zephyrus G14
Causing it to throttle and affecting it's performance. Making it look bad.
A fair battle should be with the slightly thicker Tuf A15 which reviewed 2months ago.

No laptop with a mobile cpu can compete with a Apex 15. It's got a desktop cpu for crying out loud.

And the TUF A15 with its blocked air intakes has equally bad if not worse thermals compared to the Zephyrus

If you überboost the fans to 100%, I've seen the GPU temp drop down from 80°C to 73°C, with the lid closed AND at 26°C room temperature!

Of course it sounds like it wants to take off!

By the way, kudos to ASUS for implementing a battery charging feature that is not dependent on the laptop being powered on.

    Hello there!

    I am a proud new owner of a g14 with 2060 max q and 1080p screen.

I fired up doom eternal but i seem to be having performance issues. At 1080p and ultra settings i am only getting like 50 fps.

even if i lower to low settings it stays under 60 -

Any suggestions? Ive checked all the obvious stuff I believe so far.

    EDIT:

    Answered my own question!

Looks like not plugged in performance tanks. Plugged in im running golden.

Sadly work has been very busy so I haven't had a ton of time to mess around with the G14 but I am pretty impressed so far. CPU benches are better than my 1700x/2700x desktop setups. I've had pretty good results with a repaste as well. I'll try to get some actual data to show at a later date, but so far so good (except the keyboard backlight, lol).

Hello, I have had my G14 for a few weeks now and I am pleased so far. However, I have one issue and I was just wondering if it is just me or if someone else is having this.

When I press the spacebar it only register like 50% of the time. I have to press it right in the middle for it to work 100%. When i press more to the bottom or the the left of the spacebar, the issue starts.

Is this a design issue with all Zephyrus G14´s or is it just mine that has this issue?

    Hi all,

I've figured out that you can fully install the latest Amd Adrenalin drivers and control software whilst still getting proper Nvidia power save idling by disabling "Startcn" service in task scheduler. This way you can use the amd settings as normal but you do have to reboot when finished to get Nvidia idling back.

Whilst the laptop now seems stable with latest Amd and nvidia drivers on ac power I'm still getting freezes and the odd BSOD on battery, does disabling vari bright help with this? I'm also getting false boots on battery where it may take 2-3 attempts to boot to actually get into windows. Resuming from sleep is also very hit and miss on battery.

I don't have any boot issues on battery. Did your issues start after installing the amd Adrenalin drivers? If so maybe you should go back to the lite drivers?

No, it's never been fully stable even with oem drivers or the new adrenalin drivers.

It's more stable now on ac but I'm still getting the odd lock up if the laptop is left idle.

I can game on it all day with no problem but let the gpu switching activate by leaving the machine alone and it falls over sometimes.

I'm enjoying my G14. I sold my desktop (well cpu, mb, gpu) and am just waiting for what's around the corner from AMD/Intel/Nvidia. Until then the little G14 is hooked up to the 34" AW3418DW.

Hey all, just signed up to this forum. (Mods let me know if there is some introductory process or anything like some forums, I havent seen anything) I'm one of the authors of g14control ( https://github.com/aredden/G14ControlR3), spent a lot of time on this laptop haha.

Is anybody looking into increasing the gpu tdp through mods either hardware or software? The cooling system and vrms can both definitely take it, it's just 65W restriction set by nvidia that's limiting performance right now.

    Is G14control similar to atrofac?

As for mods I'd be willing to lend a hand if you need it. I've shunt modded two of my own laptops and guided a few users on this forum, discord and on reddit with their shunt mod attempts.

Here are the results on my Zephyrus G with 1660ti Max-q

    https://www.3dmark.com/fs/22961346
    https://www.3dmark.com/spy/12671011

Currently holding the highest scores by a considerable margin

    GS75
    https://www.3dmark.com/fs/22642443
    https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/46827874

So it's pushed to the same level as a desktop 2070 super.

Software modding doesn't work atm. Mobile pascal tdp tweaker doesn't work on Turing and you can't flash a Max-p vbios onto a Max-q gpu as it just goes into safe mode.

G14control incorporates atrofac for fan control, ryzenadj for tdp control, and does a bunch of other stuff like one click toggle dgpu, auto change presets depending on power source, change refresh rate, as well as my own drivers for the animatrix (if anybody has seen snake being played on animatrix, that was me).

I'd be possibly open to shunt modding but I'd prefer to consider software mods first. mobilepascaltdptweaker claims to support turing? Does this just not work even using an spi flashing tool?

Believe me, I've tried all software options but they just don't work on Turing thanks to nvidia's restrictions.

Even with an spi flashing tool it doesn't work due to vbios encryption. You'll just get a black screen or error.

Ah dang. Well it was worth a shot asking anyways. Just out of curiosity do you know if the hardware IDs are updated by a vbios crossflash as well? Maybe the drivers are detecting the maxq ID with maxp vbios, and that's why it's erroring out?

Anyways, I saw a resistor I thought might be it, but I might wait till near the end of my warranty or something, since its a much more blatant warranty void.

Hardware IDs stay the same. I've tried 10+ vbioses of various wattages (80w,90w,100w,150w,180w,190w,200w) on my GS75 and it has always stayed the same. Drivers aren't the cause btw, the fact that 190w and 200w vbioses work normally confirms that.

As for voiding the warranty, if you're careful enough you can make it look as good as new.
