Do you concur, doctors? Doctor? Doctor.

No turbo memory - I think that went the way of Rambus, in people realizing it's not really worth it in the cost for claimed performance. I feel like Asus has drivers up for everything, just to cover every angle. Probably just a renamed driver that they had for another comparable system with Turbo Memory.

i prefer.. hmm.. i liked the mass of space etc, but it think i prefer this one.
well, ask me again in a week, cos i may be a bit bias atm, but i really like this one.
It is more reflective -due to the brightness being turned off atm.. (I can see my fingers typing away, though it is mid afternoon..) but i don't really notice it unless i'm looking for it.
The bleed (whatsoever you wish to call it) is really only a problem if you're dealing with a blank screen, and with the brightness off it's very non-existant. For normal use it poses no real issue.
My G1 had horrible bleed, though i never noticed it till i read about bleed in a forum.. still, all it did was make me feel a little emarrased when others pointed it out, other than that i never cared.
Thinking about it, there's such a bad stigma toward screen bleed and contrast numbers etc. Cos really, if it's got a sharp final image, who cares. And this lappy has a great image. I believe, probably due to being newer tech etc, that it looks better than my wsxga+.
    Hopefully that helps some..

turbo? yes, i concur.. probably something else to be included in the nz version..

My Wifi works well so far. I was getting 600+ kbps last night downloading off of Steam. I walked around the house with it and never dropped below 5 bars. Keep in mind I also have a wireless-N router.

the N80 has the intel 5100 wireless card.. if you can get the model number of the centrino 2 card, (if you have it, just go to device manager, find your wireless card) you can compare the 2..
but then someones experience is better than what the numbers could say ;)

    you're very welcome! :D

I'm very very close to pulling the trigger on the N80.

i played with the one down at best buy.

I was looking at pictures of the laptop, and i'm curious, is the video card in an MXM slot?

the only reason i ask is because i'd like to upgrade the GPU later on down the line, possibly to the GDDR3 9650M GT.

I was wondering how far pic1180 got with switch around the cars on his N80

I would NOT count on being able to upgrade it. Typically the only possible way to upgrade a laptop is if there's more than one GPU made for the notebook PLUS you can actually find some way to buy it PLUS the GPU isn't soldered to the motherboard, PLUS you're willing to disassemble the laptop to do it, possibly voiding your warranty.

Basically, with laptops, you have to buy it assuming you'll never have another GPU.

Well to me it looked like some MXM but its hard to find pictures of the N80 take apart...

But from some of the pictures the one guy put up on google pictures, it looks like it could be an MXM slot...

Is been a month since zmatin open this thread I want to know, the best experience that you had with the lap or what you regret of it, and try to start a debate of the performance in games, I know it has pretty cool graphic card to be a 14 inch lap and also the battery life somebody have the exact of amount of hours in office/surfing and gaming/HD movies conditions??

@ Mide - good video, good feedback. About the trackpad being disabled, you can set it in the drivers utility to disable when an external mouse is connected, FWIW. I'm sure you can killswitch it other ways on the fly, too.

I agree that the keyboard isn't the best ever, and I'm sure not up to thinkpad standards. Only sort of problem I have with it is that the travel is a little too deep (for me) and sometimes I find my fingertip catch on the (thin sharp) edge of the keys next to the one I'm pressing when I'm going fast.

Still loving this laptop, though, because these are minor minor things for me.

That's a lot of swearing, and Blu Ray, even for slot loading drives can be <$200 (and a lot less still for desktop drives), but good video anyway.

No one Folds on these? :(

Looking for a new laptop... wondering if anyone has run CAD 2007 or Civil 3d on the system. Is it powerful enough?

Note: understand that CAD 2007 is for 32 bit only.

Most systems it's F2. Could also be Delete (or anything really). Try F2 though.

Just another question. I now own a N80V with the T5800 though but everytime I run 3Dmark my scores are only in the 1K range. I know that someone else ran it without upgrading drivers and deleting all the ASUS stuff as well and got a score in the 4K range. Did I get a bad video card?
I've also loaded up Left 4 Dead and it runs kinda funny. It stops and starts and even on the lowest settings once there is a zombie rush it really lags.
I made sure that I'm on the correct power mode, performance, and that I close the sidebar and switch to windows classic as well.
Any suggestions? Is it faulty? Do I need to send it back? Thanks.

Yeah, I should be more professional since I'm getting close to 30, but it's youtube so sometimes it's more comfy being yourself :p

@zmatin Yup, I too sometimes catch myself on the edge of the keyboard also. The keyboard is still a negative point with me, but the rest of the laptop's features are great. Perhaps one day they will make a new keyboard and I can just order that as a replacement part. Yeah no other vendor can get close to the price of this Asus with its same configuration so I am very pleased with the system even though I have pointed out other sources worthy of distain. Also, some youtube poster pointed out that Fn+F9 can disable the trackpad. Why Asus decided on not having that as a blue icon on the keyboard is beyond me.

@iddy F2/Esc are the two keys for BIOS and Boot menu

@Wolfpup Argh...my mistake. Yes Blu-Ray drives seem to be around $200-350 on Newegg. But I wonder if you can get one that if flush to the laptop's chassis or if it'll stick out in any way. I had $500 in my mind because if you try to quote out a T400 on Lenovo's site, the addition of Blu-Ray is around that much.

@kakoshi You can go here and try to find a driver that is more suitable for gaming. It's usually hit or miss though. I had to go here to get a driver so that my old F3SV could play Bioshock effectively even though that equated into all the settings turned down to a minimum. Are you using the Nvidia drivers from the Asus support website?

You should use RivaTuner to monitor your GPU clocks and make sure it upclocks properly when under load (e.g., gaming).

Don't mind errors in clock in the two least significant digits, RivaTuner does that with mobile GPUs. But the rough magnitude of the clocks as well as the differences between the clocks at various moments in time (load/no load) should tell you if it upclocks properly. There should be 3 different profiles and the card should use the fastest in gaming.

Thanks for the suggestion to use RivaTuner. It seems that the GPU seems to clock up fast and has these periodic drops when temp hits 114. I'm on the performance mode as well. I kinda see multiple plateaus. I don't know if I'm supposed to hit 2000 on the scale though. What do you think? Should I return it or not then? Thanks for your help.

You want to buy RAM in pairs-just use Crucial's configuration thing, select your system and select a pair of DIMMs in the total size you want. ie if you want 4GB total, buy 2x2GB.

The chipset supports it. I know Sony's AW supports it and can be configured with 8GB...but that doesn't always mean any system can support that.

Crucial's info says it supports a max of 2GB per slot. You'd need to buy a copy of 64-bit Vista to support more anyway...I mean for now 4GB is fine.

Thanks, Wolfpup, the reason that I want to know about the 8GB is that a salesperson talked to my (not so tech savvy) boss who is buying the computer and for some reason said that now all laptops need to have 8GB's of RAM.

lol that's a boldface lie. 4GB is a great for Vista and 2GB is great for XP. Anything above that would only be useful for a distinct reason like 3D modeling, scientific analysis, or simulations.

If that 114 is C not F than you do have a cooling issue going on. You arent blocking any of the vents or using it on your lap??

Lol. I had this happen on my prehistoric (desktop) Radeon 9600, when I tried oc'ing but had no idea what I was doing. Everest told me my GPU was running at 126 C :D. But you should definitely get that looked at... make sure the area around your laptop is clear from clutter.

Thanks everybody for your help. I'll return my computer then. I've tried elevating the back to allow more airflow and a cooling pad but to no avail. Well actually the cooling pad did help Left 4 Dead run a little more smoothly but the temps still hit 114 C.

Anyone know if any multi air/auto/ac adapters work with the Asus N80Vn-GP011C?

I want to have one that I carry that works everywhere and I can't tell much from the Targus & Kensington sites (only ones I have looked at thus far)...

Anyone having any problems resuming from "sleep mode"? I have Vista Home Premium x64 installed on this notebook, and whenever I resume from sleep mode (i.e. suspend to RAM; NOT hibernate mode), the machine freezes. Actually, it wakes up, I login at the login screen, and then as soon as my desktop appears the machine freezes (no mouse, keyboard, etc.). Has anyone else had this issue?

Nothing like solving your own problems :) So I updated to the latest BIOS (went from 206 to 207) and the problem disappeared. If anyone else is having this problem, just download and install the 207 BIOS from the ASUS website.

Ok so I just today started writing large emails from my backlog I had going on. While writing I noticed that every 3 words or so, the keyboard would miss a letter. I thought it was my imagination at first for maybe I didn't click the key hard enough but after I sat there and watched every finger touch every key it does seem to miss letters every now and then. Is this happening to anybody else?
