    Hey Guys,

First post here. Been following everyone's comments on this forum for a while now which is why I chose to buy an N61JQ-A1 from ncix.com a few weeks ago.
Quick question for anyone who can help me. Does anyone have issues with the left side of the keyboard having more flex and making louder clicking/rattling sounds when typing compared to the right??
I love the laptop but the excessive noise when typing makes me feel like there is a problem with the laptop I received.
    Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks guys
    Dave

hey hello there... Congrats on ur new purchase and welcome to the family. I didn't have the flexing problems of the keyboards and mine seems pretty well balanced throughout the keyboards.... Sounds are pretty normal when typing... There are clicking sounds when typing on them but it's normal, almost al lappy I tried have this sound nth unusual. And the volume of the clicking sound is far from being classified as "excessive" and miles away from "loud".

    Hope this helps :)

Mine is fine. I didn't even have to change the display settings. Is it because of the angle of your view? Hmm...

Wow the new drivers for 5730 is out? Wanna update soon :)

I met my friend ytd who owns a sony vaio z series and the 1st thing he says when he open up my lappy and boot it up was.... "wow... Your baby has nice screen and the colour is awesome" :)

Monoprice is great. They are highly regarded at the AVSforum.com, and I have purchased several items from them.

Thank's for the link David. I ordered some of those right away. I still have to clarify that I was not recommending expensive HDMI cables. I just have to agree to disagee with VGA and HDMI are about the same for hooking up your laptop to a 1080P TV. But what do I know I'm just a city Bus driver! :D

I wouldn't worry about this it is pretty common in laptop keyboards now. Not excessive. Plus you have the 2 year warranty to give you some peace of mind on things like this.

No and I don't think mine will as I don't use a laptop bag. And I don't have any metal on my wrists. I have been asking for more reports of this and have only come up with 4 so far. If it was me I would focus on whatever other issues you might have with this laptop before making your decision. I still say the pro's of the coating outweigh the small risk of future peeling.

That's strange as ASUS doesn't offer one yet. I sent Gentech an email.
We haven't seen our resellers here lately.

Are we sure this isn't a misprint? I find it strange no other reseller is offering a 9 cell with this otherwise I would have grabbed it no problem.

I see Ally has email GenTech so I'll await that response. How much do we think a nine cell would give in terms of battery life though?

if it reaches 4 hours I would buy it, but not at $189. The most I would pay is $80-$90

I'm wondering though if by getting the N71, if the graphics card will still get as good FPS as it does pushing out at a higher rez?

It happened to me too after I installed daemon tools. Maybe it's because of it for you also?

Anyway I have had this laptop for three days now and loving it (although I haven't done any gaming on it yet). No peeling for me and it doesn't look like it will be problem soon (laptop has been in bag for 4-5 times now).

If anyone cares, then I changed optical drive for blu-ray and it works without any problems and the picture is beautiful :) (blu-ray drive was sony optiarc 5500)

Have you tried the new 10.3 drivers yet?
When I installed the preview version it recognized the vid card as a 5000 series instead of the 5730. Does the official 10.3 recognize the vid card a 5000 series as well?

It can't :( But if you find one that can then the drive switching is easy (I hadn't done it before but it was really logical).

One thing I haven't figured out - how do you format this computer without the bloatware? I made recovery discs (4) and reinstalled windows but it installed with all the same bloatware as before. Currently I uninstalled most of these "free" programs (my favorite was "wedding in Manhattan" or something like that) but it took almost 20 minutes. If anyone figures out how to do a clean install with recovery discs, I would really appreciate the info.

Xotic sells a spare 6 cell for $95 so at the $185 price point I would expect it to be a 9 cell.

I believe the recovery discs make an image of your system, so if the bloatware was installed when you made the discs it will also be there on the recovery.

I think you have to remove the programs first and then create the recovery disks in order to not have them when you do a restore.

I am not sure about this because I have not made the recovery discs (I have a 7 year old and discs become frisbees :))

Great news ! Here is Kens reply from GenTech. I have been leary just trying any battery as I have read you can damage a laptop and void a warranty by using an unapproved battery. But Ken is very knowledgeable and trustworthy so I guess we will go with what he says and I will post it on the first page.
Now I have no idea how much better it would be to upgrade to 9 cell.

    Hello Greg,
The N61, M50, M60, G50 and G51 are build by the same chassis, they share the same battery. yes you can buy from us if you want. :)

Yes many people here care. We have had many requests for recomendations on which blu-ray to buy. And any information you can give on the installation as we have some members here wanting to attempt this for the first time.

On the peeling issue. I was thinking if you are using a bag it might be a good idea to always make sure the lip side is facing up so it won't rub on the bottom of the bag.
It might just be a few of these were not applied correctly and the average N61 might not ever have this problem.

My question is why take up so much time worrying about a clean install. As Donald at PowerNotebooks said most of this is not Bloatware but ASUS utilities that might come in handy some day. Just uninstall what you don't want and if it's running great than what is the need for a clean install? :D

I currently can't (I have nothing to take a picture with :) ), but it looks exactly like before because the bezel is from the dvd drive (these can easily be changed). So it looks as it would be a dvd drive but inside is the BR drive. I watched this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CpOL8y2B9Q and the main points are the same. So if you haven't done it before (I hadn't) it gives you a good basic idea what to expect.
But to be honest this is totally overdamatic because if you know what a skrewdriver looks like then you can't go wrong. Main thing is to find the correct BD drive (anything that looks like this http://www.thg.ru/howto/shuttle_xs29f_via_nano_u1700/images/optiarc_bc-5500s.jpg should work. Or at least it worked for me. Don't be mad if this info is incorrect as I have only tried it once and succeded so of course I imagine I'm now competent enough to teach the whole world how to build a laptop from scratch :)

It recognises as a HD Mobility 5700 series.

Yup, just need to right click desktop the resolution. From there you need to choose clone, extend etc. Not found a way to have stock res on laptop and custom on TV though.

90-NED1B2100Y - This appears to be the model # if you want to search for it. Be carefull as some sites lead you to the 6 cell battery. The best price I could find without looking to hard was around $129. :D

hi there. I update my baby with the 10.3 and it worked fine. Ran gta 4 and crysis demo and the performace improvements are very noticable. I was able to run crysis with 4x aa 4 very high 2 medium and the rest high with no lags even in gun fights. Same for gta4 all high same no lags as the previous driver but you can feel that it's smoother. More fps in gta4 on the new drivers than the old. All on native resolution. Go on Try it out on games :)

    anybody feel the same way?

Gona try 3d mark soon to check if there are any improvements on it After the driver update

I'll be able to test battery life this weekend. As far as the weight of the battery it didn't feel that much heavier than the 6 cell. I can't get it out of my wifes computer today, but I'll list the specs and battery life after some testing this weekend.

If I were to wager a guess I'd say I'll get just over 3 hours. If you think about it 6-cells gets 2 hours and you add 3 more cells you're going to get about another hour.

As a follow up whom has it in stock now? I could go a few pages back, but that could be old info....

I'm actually amazed I've been waiting a month :( in the tech world that's like forever!

I got side tracked and got a fish tank and picked up a new hobby... lol

The original excitement for this laptop kinda wore off, I'm hoping it will come back when it comes!
