Since the old Asus N61JQ Driver thread is getting a bit long in the tooth for people having to dig through the forum to find the latest drivers I've been posting on there, here are the latest drivers for this model. I will try to do annual updates for these drivers on this model every month of so. Users of this model should bookmark this page. Also, if you need help with this model post your questions here as well.

On the 13.4 ATI driver, it says:
"Cannot complete this action.
Please try again."
Is the link broken? -
AMD pulled it from it's website due to black screens but now the 13.9 drivers are backup so they fixed it.
-
Is anyone with windows 8 having problems with the latest ati drivers? Currently I'm just using windows' default driver (WDDM 1.2), but for gaming reasons want the ati driver.
Installing ati's latest 13.9 (and the beta 13.11) driver causes my display to stop working (just get a black screen) when it should load the login screen. I had to do a system restore to get it working again.
It sounds like there was a similar issue that 13.9 fixed on win7 machines, just wondering if there was a fix for windows 8?
Edit: Updated to Windows 8.1 and now it works fine, just had to use the fn+backlight button to get the display to come on. ( Which may have been the problem before) -
I am having problems with ATI's latest drivers, 13.9.
The main problem is that these are not 100% compatible with windows 8.1. In win 8.1 the brightness scale is not working properly, it is as if the brightness scale was set for only two levels, a "brightness" and a "zero brightness" levels. So from 70% and above, I can see the screen and the backlight works, but less than 70% on the brightness scale the backlight turns off and the screen goes dark.
Another thing I noticed, today (25th of October) if you go and check the drivers for Radeon HD 57xx (our n61jq graphics card) on AMD's site, you will notice that there is none available. So there are no official ATI drivers for our graphics card for windows 8.1.
Just to finish, WDDM 1.2 drivers on win8.1 also have the same brightness problem, but if you use WDDM1.1 that problem disapeears.
Any news on this please post here. -
-
I installed the 13-4_mobility_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql drivers but the brightness scale still doesn't work properly. With the 13.4 the scale doesn't have any level, it is set always with the same brightness level.
I don't user power4gear , I only use the "fn + F5" and "fn + F6" with the windows brightness adjuster.
This sucks -
Hello, I have the same problem with last ATI drivers 13.9 and 13.4. I realized that screen is almost black (with sunlight reflection you can appreciate a little bit the screen, but impossible to use the laptop) but if you connect it to a tv through HDMI, the image on tv looks perfect, but no image in the laptop. Could you tell me which drivers should I install, maybe the last of 12 series? Another question: is it worth to upgrate to windows 8 this machine?
King regards. -
Hi,
I have installed the windows 8.1 but now I don't have my camera working, any solution?
Thx -
I posted updated drivers on the 1st page....
As for is it worth going to Windows 8? gaming performance wise there is no diff overall between Windows 7 and Windows 8, so in that aspect no. I prefer Windows 7. Even though Windows 8.1 fixed some of Windows 8 issues that many people were complaining about it's still Windows 8, nothing drastic changed between 8 and 8.1. There is no start menu, no aero glass option and no way to disable metro, although they did add an option in windows 8.1 to boot right into windows desktop, which is a step in the right direction. Also Windows Experience Index is now gone in Windows 8.1 there is no more system benchmark rating anymore in actual view, which wasn't a big deal to me seeing as I use real benchmark testing programs like PCVantage, 3DMark11 and Cinebench R15. But in the end the choice is up to you, if you are happy with Windows 7 then stick with it and put more money into the hardware side of your laptop instead. like I did. I upgraded to a Core i7 840QM for under 100 bucks on ebay, 8gb of DDR3 1333mhz ram for 62 dollars from newegg, Blu-Ray ROM for 45 bucks on ebay, and recently an Samsung 840 EVO 250gb SSD for 175 dollars from amazon, which is prob the biggest hardware upgrade performance wise I could do for my N61JQ laptop. -

Has anyone got 13.9 to work?
-
-
13.9 works fine on Windows 8.1 x86. I'm running 8.1 Enterprise 32bit evaluation version on the original Seagate 500GB HDD for a trial before I put my SSD back in and go with a clean install (with Windows 8 Pro upgrade license) of 64 bit 8.1 (I don't remember which driver I was using with Windows 8 x64 on an SSD back in the summer - before I decided to try out 8.1 on the HDD). I'd be interested to know if AMD has released a driver that works with Windows 8.1 x64 before I do that, since I really would prefer not to have to uninstall/reinstall drivers and apps on my fresh O.S. to get it working right.

I've gone right back to the stock drivers from Asus website. It seems that I'm having issues with both the 13.4 and 13.9 drivers. Does anyone have a link to get older drivers? I found the ones from last year worked well for me but I don't have them anymore. And being on stock, whilst stable, I don't feel like I'm getting the full gist of my graphics card with them.
Thanks people. -
Anyone try ATI 13.12?
-
I was wondering the same thing
-
trying it now amd's installer tool is acting up it only downloads 72kb of the file then it says complete. so I found an alternate download for it.
13-12_mobility_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql -
update. I just tried driver version 13.12 and it's still black screening my windows 7. so I had to revert back to 13.4
-
I would imagine we need an updated GPU bios from Asus, probably won't get one at this point.
-
nah it's the drivers people with apu's based on the 8000 series were having the same issue.
-
-
13.1 ATI drivers here with windows 8 enterprise. all drivers above 13.1 give me black screen
-
here is what I do realize that when you install 13.9 and or 13.12 drivers it black screens the laptop display monitor but not external monitors.
-
Hello again,
I was tired of trying all the Catalyst drivers in windows 7 64 bit and getting black screen (only external hdmi signal was working), so I decided to uninstall them and upgrade to Windows 8. Automatically it gets the windows WDM driver and works fine, so then I wanted more performance (because WDM driver is normally based in an older catalyst version) and I installed the 14.1 beta driver of catalyst.
Now I have a little problem: when I raise down the brightness with Fn+F5 keys it becomes black screen (like before with win7), so I have to raise it up again and then the screen brightness is insane for my eyes. I tried to configure it with Catalyst Control Center but even that the screen still has too much brightness.
So uninstalled it and get back to WDM driver.
I'll try the 13.12 whql but i think i'll get the same result. Did anyone reached this point and got a solution? Asus technical center just gave me the solution of only use the asus live update, they were not very helpful I have to say... -
Ok, I've tried to install the Catalyst 13.12 WHQL driver and it does not detect the graphic card (only installs hdmi audio driver), so I had to uninstall and go back to windows WDM driver.
So I've reinstalled the 14.1beta driver and then thought maybe power4gear hybrid (asus software) was guilty of the too much brightness on screen, so I uninstalled it. Reboot and nothing hapens, but, I've found a temporary solution:
When windows 8 is restarting (when the blue window) just make Fn+F5 to raise down the bright level and the system will start with a perfect brightness, BUT DON'T CHANGE IT because it will get back to the same situation (black screen or too much brightness) -
Hi.. Just signed up on this forum to share some of my experiences with this laptop and give some information back to this forum which Ive found really helpful. I've the Asus PRO64J, which is about the same as the N61JQ series I believe.
Been following this thread and the previous one already for a long time. The one thing I've always had problems with is the graphics card (HD 5730). I think it was already in the first month after I purchased this laptop that glitches started to show up sometimes and small blue and yellow blocks after which the screen freezes and the famous AMD driver stopped responding notification would came up or BSOD.
I spent many hours looking for solutions and tried different solutions, but I couldnt get it fixed. I figured out that small blue and yellow blocks had something to do with the graphics memory and the problems only occurred in 2D mode often caused by something with flash. Using the internal laptop screen or an external monitor didnt seem to make any difference. As I wasnt able to fix the problem, I gave up and got used to it. Sometimes it didnt occur for weeks or a few months and then it would came back to occur several times a day.
Just before the warranty expired I decided to contact Asus and send it for repair. It came back completely refurbished with new graphics card, mobo, hdd and screen. Still within short time the same problem started again.
Recently it started to happen 5-10 times a day and I couldnt ignore it any longer. So started researching the problem again and tried the new drivers. I found that AMD drivers up to version 13.4 work well. Version 13.9 and 13.12 gave black screens on laptop screen, but are working with external monitor.
Then I started experimenting with the GPU clocks, because I read somewhere that 2D crashes are caused by idling clock speeds which are too low. There are some different ways to edit those, but I started with AMD overdrive which was part of my CCC.
The GPU clock was set to 650 MHz by default and the memory clock at 800MHz. These values were already much higher then I found on the web, but again I never found anything specific about the HD 5730, only about other cards from the 4***, 5*** and 6*** series. I started with changing the GPU clock alone, which didnt work. So also tried changing the memory clock which did seem to work.
The SOLUTION Im using right now is default GPU clock speed at 650 MHz and slightly overclocked Memory clock at 850 MHz the problem has never occurred again since Im using this setting.
As a permanent solution I use the AMD GPU Clock tool to obtain this clock setting. It is setup to run at startup and set memory clock speed to 850 MHz with this shortcut:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\AMD GPU Clock Tool\AMDGPUClockTool.exe" -mem=850
I hope this will help others, because I couldnt find any working solution up to now. -
Good stuff. Thanks for doing this!

I want to work with some video editing and 3d software and decided to update my graphics card driver. I had never updated it before. And I haven't had any problems or anything. Just thought I could get better performance.
I've tried the AMD Mobility Radeon Driver Verification Tool (13.12) but....
First time installing it, the laptop restarted on it's own during installation. When it turned back on I had a low resolution. Icons and everything looked big.
I tried installing it a second time, which seemed like it worked but everything still looked big. Also when I went on device manager, the display adapter was showing a warning or something that it wasn't working correctly.
Then I did a system restore to go back to the previous driver.
How do you guys update your graphics card driver?
There's also the support page on asus website with driver downloads: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download N71Jq
Which driver should I install? And where should I get it from?
Or is it even a good idea to update just to try to get better performance or should I leave the current old one which hasn't given me any problems?
BTW, I have the N71JQ (windows 7 - 64bit).
Thanks! -
Does anyone know if the radeon 14.1 beta drivers are giving black screens on windows 7?
-
you downloaded the regular desktop drivers they won't work you have to download the mobility ones from amd.com it's listed on my drivers links. -
Unfortunately, still there is a problem with a black screen with the newer versions of drivers. 13.12 for windows7
Beta does not work either.
These are games that require version 13.12 for the proper operation of such battlefield4
Any solutions? -
did you try 14.1 beta?
-
I have a feeling we're going to need a bios update. I am gathering AMD has changed code and it's no longer compatible with the vbios.
-
How it works on windows 8 and 8.1? Version 13.12 and new beta works? -
Hey guys, I am a proud owner of a ASUS N61JQ and I refuse to let my buddy die! despite some hardware problems, it is now almost as good as new and freshly formatted with a SSD I took some time searching for the most recent drivers for the N61JQ for Windows 7, seeing that I don't enjoy Windows 8 xD Because I think my drivers are more recent than the ones uploaded in the first post, I wanted to know if by any chance anyone wants me to upload them.
Regards, fellow N61JQers lol

the drivers in the first post are the most recent ones, they are more recent then prob the drivers you have on your laptop. I keep them up to date.

ok here is what I can tell you regarding the radeon mobility drivers.
anything past v13.4 including the newest 14.3 beta gives you a black screen in windows 7 unless you hook it up to an external monitor.
Every version works with windows 8.x after v13.4 including the newest 14.3 beta until you try to lower the amount of screen brightness lower then 75% then you will get a black screen.Aria_kh likes this. -
For those having issues with brightness on W8/8.1, I use f.lux to control the brightness (alt+PgDn/Up). I hope I solve some headaches
-
As anyone tried to contact either AMD or Asus about this?
-
yes and I haven't gotten a response from amd, asus told me to use the drivers they have on their website which is way out of date.
-
Premade answers, gotta love them
-
there is still a black screen with the latest Radeon v14.4 drivers on windows 7.
