    Hi,

So Adorama and Micro Center have confirmed 1080p displays right? I need to finalize where to pick it up from.

I bought mine from adorama and on the box of the touch screen it says FHD. In the setting it is 1920x1080. I went with Adorama over Microcenter because I have to pay tax to MC and I didn't with Adorama and they had free shipping. Adorama price matched Micro Center 999.00 price for me. I ordered last Friday and I received it on this past Wed. Good luck with your decision.

Hi guys. I recently got the N550JV-DB72 and I'm observing the temperature the GPU of the laptop. What I noticed was that the GPU FAN usage is always at 0% and 0rpm. I'm just wondering if there is anything wrong with my laptop? Please bare with me. I'm just a noob.

It could be that the laptop has GPU x 2. One within the CPU (the Intel 4600) and one from nVIDIA, the GT 750M. When you do not need the extra power, 750M does not work, thus having 0 on everything. The card does not send data during this.

I switch the graphics card to nvidia and I was running a game during this. Temperature shows around 70C and memory usage around 1.3gb. But fan speed indicates 0 rpm and 0 usage. I'm wondering maybe the fan might be busted. I also downloaded nvidia inspector but the text of fan usage is opaque.

Have you tried looking at your fan stats as well?

Would there be any way to turn off the touchscreen, possibly using software? It would be nice to do so to save battery life since touchscreens consume more power. Also does anyone have info on the second option for the display for the DB71?

Are you sure the 750m even has its own fan? 70 degrees isn't too bad, and it's possible and maybe probable that the n550 has general internal fans, and that there is no dedicated 750m fan.

Does the Optimus not work? Auto switching from

What seems more likely is that the fan information is just not readable by those programs hence the 0rpm

So in order to for the 750m to work you have to manually turn it on in the bios or else it defaults to the integrated. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedbacks. I tried listening to the machine. It seems both are working. Maybe it's just that no programs can read the speed or usage.

How's the battery life on your N550jv? I'm getting around 3 hours with moderate use. I don't expect this laptop to have a good battery life given the processor, gpu, touchscreen and 4 cell battery.

I'm probably getting about that much battery as well. Is there an app like on android where it breaks down how long the computer been on battery and what has been using it. I guess I got spoiled using android battery app and
I was trying to figure how long I'd been on computer but all it would tell me was how much battery life
    I had left,

So do both graphics cards work simultaneously or does computer wait to switch to the 750m until it is doing something more graphic intensive. When I was looking at another asus laptop at bestbuy the saleperson said I would have to switch the dedicated card on thru the bios and wasn't sure about this computer since someone mention a couple post's up about switching to the NVidia. I couldn't even find anything in the bios that would allow switching and I tried disabling the integrated card but then it gave me an error when I tried to open the NVidia control panel. Thanks for your information.

The computer will use the Integrated Graphics until it hits a program that you (or the nVidia software automatically) has set to run with the 750m.

After if it hits that program does the integrated shut off or does it help out the 750m. Thanks again for all of your information.

The HD 4600 (integrated graphics) will not run when the 750m is.

I want to make sure this is really the case because I have had very bad experiences in the past with an hp laptop using an A8-3500 fusion processor with an integrated 6220m and a dedicated 6750m that would use assymetrical crossfire. It was a huge mess, the drivers for that were not working properly and most games only ever used the integrated graphics and the BIOS was locked down to prevent me from forcing usage of the dedicated card. When it worked it was brilliant, but when it didnt, the performance was really not up to par.

It was that bad that I bricked my laptop once trying to use an unlocked BIOS from a shady forum to get the power I bought for out of my laptop. I'm looking to buy the Asus N550 to replace that HP laptop that gave me so many headaches.

I guess what I'm asking is if Nvidia is using the same type of shenanigans of assymetrical SLI with this laptop? Have any of you guys that tried gaming with this laptop monitored GPU usage? Does the integrated graphics STAY OFF when you tell it to? How mature are the graphics drivers for this?

    Thanks :)

Nvidia's optimus is good.. Even if there is a game that does not automatically detect it e.g PES 2013. I just manually set it in the control panel once. Then it runs flawlesly and is able to be monitored with a monitoring program

The only issue is when i'd like to put extra unofficial feature e.g fxaa injection, or enb series to enhance graphic quality.. However It's know issue for optimus-based notebook. Not really matter though..

It's a 15 inch laptop that's a little under six pounds. That being said, it's quite sleek. You can certainly bring it to college classes without much problem, but don't think it will feel like you are using an ultrabook.

I just called them up and asked if they pricematched they said certain retailers and when I was ready to buy they would check I said I wanted to know then because that would determine if I bought from them or not. He put me on hold for a couple of minutes and then said they would price match and to call back when I was ready I called back within 30 minutes or so because I was afraid Microcenter online would be unavailable and they wouldn't pricematch. I think the guy I spoke to was Frank. I looked on microcenter website a few days ago and it was only available instore and just looked again and its not showing up so they probably won't do it unless the can verify the price and availability.

How do the N550JV-DB71 and N550JV-DB72T compare. Is the only difference the touchscreen because only the 71 is available where I am from and I don't need the touchscreen anyways. Also, will the battery last longer because the is no touchscreen?

Sorry. What excuse did they give you. Probably since it is only available instore at microcenter and when I ordered it was available online. That's why I purchased from adorama because no taxes and if they hadn't pm'd it was still cheaper to buy from them by the time I added over $80.00 in taxes at microcenter.

Does anyone know what's up with the video memory? It seems like there's a 4GB and a 2 GB model, but perhaps they're all 4GB like the ones at adorama, microcenter and b&h are all 1080p. If anyone bought one from there, could you please confirm?

Ask your local dealer about warranty on US products. Also see if a proper purchase means any tax in Turkey.

Other than these 2 problems, you can get it from any part of the world. Prices do not include shipping sometimes, always ask the final price to your door.

Wonder if anyone can help. Just got it and swapped out the drive for a SSD and I can only boot to the bios. I made a USB boot key, but it won't even appear in the bios 99% of the time. And when it does appear and I select it for boot override, it just reboots right back to the bios. Is there anything special I need to do? First time with a modern Windows laptop.

Is anyone using this with a blu-ray reader? I've got conflicting info. Asus website says it's available. One builder says it can't be done due to 9.5mm optical bay. Another builder tells me it can, and says they shipped one out just yesterday with the blu-ray upgrade.

I would like to help, but I fail to understand the problem. What SSD did you used? What USB boot key? With Windows? Is that USB stick 2.0 or 3.0? I had a hard time using USB boot sticks with Asus and their 3.0 ports, but always worked on other laptops with 2.0 (most manufacturers still use one USB 2.0m but not Asus, no Sir - I do not own USB 3.0 sticks). How about the SSD, is that OK? Did you try to use a DVD? Also I've seen that after some time the boot sequence will change from DVD»HDD to HDD first for no reason.
