Well I have to agree with the glossy screen matters - it suxx, Nobody want's glossy screens but it seems that every producer don't listen ? I am no fan of widescreens like this either - makes me want to turn the screen 180 degrees Uhh well with that said the performance of this laptop is phenomenal - that is when you go for a fast ssd and 16 gb ram
-
I like the glossy screen. Macs have glossy screens and none of their market complain even when they all think they are 'designers' lol

Here's where I bought my 9-call battery 9-Cell Asus N53 Compatible Extended Life Battery 11.1V 6600mAh Black - Asus N53 Replacement Parts I jumped the gun though, I'm still waiting on my N53SV-XV1 to arrive. I'll update everyone on how the battery does when the actual lappy arrives! As far as the actual battery, it looks like it will work - its not in an improper casing, damage to the unit or anything of the sort...

I've red all the 41 pages after I bought a N53SN
So is GT 550m only activated while playing games? I saw some people complaining about older games detect intel integrated, not the 550m, is this true? Also what happens to flash videos or 720p/1080p x264 videos that uses "hardware acceleration"? Also Aero uses it too, I don't want a slow desktop experience. -
-
I got the N53SV XV1 yesterday, it should be coming in tomorrow, can't wait! However, since it won't be able to run most of the newer games in native resolution (1080p) I was wondering how games look in 1366x768 on the 1080 screen.

I am trying to decide between N53SV and DELL XPS also. You mentioned that the CPU on the XPS is upgradeable? Does that mean that I can buy the XPS 15 with i5 sandy bridge and upgrade to i7 2720QM easily?
Thanks,
-
6.6 on nvidia
and only 5.9 on RAM
does only 4gb makes that difference? -
Bought Logitech Lapdesk yesterday, it fits, but right-bottom feet of laptop is jumping a little, heavy machine Nothing major, I recommend this lapdesk.
Took few images for you: ImageShack Album - 6 images -
hello, i just bought a N53SN, installed windows 7 64bit, all drivers from asus page, graphic drivers from nvidia site (nvidia 550m). Then i tried to connect LCD monitor via HDMI, but the monitor is not detected. I have searched web, but only found many same question but no answers. Does your HDMi port work with external display? What should i do to make it work. Thanks

Hi, I got a problem - I have model Asus N53SN-SZ121V, I can't install Bluetooth drivers, every time I run the original bluetooth driver from Asus web it gives me notice "Please turn on or plug in your Bluetooth device in order to continue installation" I have Win7 Home Premium x64 SP1 clean install from DVD, installed all other drivers without any problem. I tried the Fn+F2 button for turning on Bluetooth and also used the HW switch on the right side of the notebook, but still no change in driver installation

thank for answer,
the HDMI cable is version 1.3, additional information from package:

I finally jumped the gun and bought this. It's an awesome laptop and I'm loving it so far, except for one thing. The electrical leakage is very annoying. Has there been a fix for it yet? Also, has anyone bought the N53SV XV1 off of Amazon and not had the issue? I'm considering returning it, and was wondering if I should ask for a replacement or buy an XPS 15 instead...
-
@blazingsun - the trick with Atheros Bluetooth drivers worked, thanks
But I got another question - when I run some CPU-intesive computation like BOINC on this machine - N53SN, it is still very cold, even on full 8thread usage, but the problem is, as I found, that CPU temp is about 85°C (185°F) - that's too much for longterm full CPU calculations. My question is, do you also have similar high temperatures when running CPU intensive computations on this notebook? Is there a reasonable way how to decrease the temperature under about 70°C? I do have cooling pad Cooler Master Notepal U2 beneath the notebook, but still the temperature is as high as 80°C Otherwise it's really good notebook, but this cooling problem is .. well a problem for me. -
I bought a new N53SN with 550M and 4GB RAM after reading the posts on this thread.
I was excited to try out Witcher 2, but got disappointed quickly when the game suggested i play with low specs. I pushed the machine and it seems it can barely cope with medium settings. Is this normal? The blue light was on when I got these results, by the way. -
-
Is the ground connected as well?
please note that this gpu is still mid-range and not give you highest settings... -
Here's mine, 4GB ram. How can I improve my desktop performance? More ram? I can only put 8GB max.
edit. new nvidia driver is available, if some of you haven't noticed yet. -
Maybe it's the result of your constant excitement in the presence of this powerful laptop that gives you goofy electrifying sensation at your finger tips?
J/K!
Seriously, if it's not the plug outlet, I'd say try exchange for another model. On Amazon, I don't recall anyone comments about this problem. So hope it's just a small number affected by this.
Someone commented the CPU temperature is too hot a few posts above, do you find that to be the case with yours? -
After restart is all reverted back, and the monitor is not detected anymore. It is windows 7 64bit. -
Earlier in thread, someone saids they have to jam the HDMI cable into the slot all the way in.
Anyone else have problems with HDMI output?
Did you try plug it to your LCD TV? Or maybe your friend's LCD monitor just to test? -

@Vorlon:
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking of doing right now. As far as CPU temps go, I haven't installed anything to measure them, but it runs really cool during normal use, better than most laptops I've used. When you start gaming, it get's a bit warm, but obviously that's expected, nothing major as long as you don't block the vent.
As far as the HDMI output goes, I have the same problem. The port sits a good .5 cm behind the case, so my current cable won't reach in all the way to get connected.
The HDMI port and the electric leakage are the only two problems I've had with it, everything else runs fantastic. -
Let us know if your exchange laptop will still have electrical leakage. If it persists still, and you can wait a little, the new N-series will be introduced in summer, so maybe it'll be better (or worst?) than current model. Good luck! -
It is such a relief that after hours of usage the keyboard doesn't burn my palms. Furthermore, under heavy duty (and yes I mean Witcher 2...) it still keeps its silence.

Hi fellas,
I have the chance to buy a really cheap N53SV with i3-2310M, would it be possible to upgrade the CPU to the i7-2630qm?
They use the same chipset but I don´t know if the socket is the same as in the i7. -
Hey, Just ordered the N53SV-XV1 and will be adding a SSD, I need to know if the Optical Bay (DVD Drive) is 9.5mm or 12.7mm? I was also wondering if I should use the SSD in a universal Optical Bay Hard Drive Adapter or should I swap the stock HD and use the SSD in the Primary HD location? Thanks!
-
unbelievable but, the trick was that there cannot be even 0.5mm space between HDMI connector and HDMI port on laptop. I just tried to insert it deeper, as much as it can go and it immediately works. Thank you. -

Found a disassembly guide for the N53JF-XE1 and as far as I can tell, it should be a similar experience seeing as you will have to go through similar steps to get your optical drive out. http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/548277-i-love-my-new-n53jf-xe1-but-i-got-bored-disassembly.html -

Keyboard problem
Recently some keys stopped working on N53SN, they are aligned in two columns:
5,6
Y,U
H,J
N,M
they lay in area where the keyboard is mostly fold.
It happened before but then after restart it was magically working again for few days. I tried restart, unplugging power, removing battery, reinstall driver (it is Standard PS/2 in device manager) Windows driver is used.
I now typing on external keyboard and there all keys are working.
Do you have same problems? how to solve it? -
Help needed!
Alright, this is the problem. The whole system (Asus N53SN) keeps freezing every now and then. Approximately 2.5 times per minute average. These freezes last between 2 and 15 seconds, sometimes even more.
I have the latest drivers installed for both NVIDIA and Intel (and all the other stuff, ofcourse, excluding the bloatware). I got these updates from their sites. The freezes seem to only occur when it is using the nvidia card (not the intel integrated HD card). Indicated by the blue light being on. It is on all the time, probably because it's connected to the power network (not on battery power). It doesn't have to keep track of the power consumption so it chooses for the NVIDIA card.
I have looked up the BIOS version, the version is BIOS 204. There is one update to BIOS 206, these are the patchnotes:
Code:BIOS 206 1.Change EC firmware to 202D08 2.Restrict Aflash2 version up to 3.14 for BIOS build date check. 3.Add build date check in EZFlash. BIOS can't be update if the build date of new chosen BIOS is equal or early to original.
I have ran memtest86+ for over 12 hours, not finding any problems. So it is most likely not the memory. It MIGHT be the harddrive, but that would be rather strange as it's only happening when the blue VGA indicator is on. I have read about others experiencing SandyBrdige freezes, but those originate from January and February. I got this laptop on friday and I have been battling this problem the past two days. I have re-installed windows multiple times. I am running a x64 OS.
Did anybody have the same problem?
How do I get rid of this? -
-
@Rahazan: Blue light means Intel, so I'd try rolling back the Intel driver to the factory shipped one (should be on Asus's website) and see if that fixes your problem.
-
Hello guys, I've just recently purchased this notebook, glad to be joining the family
I know you guys are probably tired of watching unboxing pictures but I'm thinking of posting mine soon (I know when I'm interested in a notebook I try to find as many unboxing pics/videos I can find).
edit: oh and by "this notebook" I mean the N53SV -
Go ahead and post the pics and impression! Test the HDMI and everything else, let us know if you run into problems some users have in this thread.
-
Here are some unboxing pics, keep in mind I took these with my phone and the quality isn't the best
2nd set of pics
and last set
I haven't done any tests yet, just installed a couple programs and such.. I will look into doing some tests when I have time during the week or towards the end of the week.
Oh and I'm loving this notebook so far, it's god damn sexy. Looks 3X better when you have it up close guys trust me. I've read some complaints about the weight and how it is so wide, etc .. really I don't think it's THAT heavy at all, I've carried around heavier notebooks (daily) and I think 6 lbs is really not that big a deal (or maybe I'm just used to it?)Attached Files:

So if someone's HDMI is not working, that is how much the HDMI cable needs to be shaved off...thanks for the before/after!
-
Yeah, it's very little. I only cut off ~0.4 cm and it works fine. No problem!
