GenTechPC show some photos of the remote control.
Wow! Now this series looks better. The M70VM-C1 is a good choice. The M70VM-C2 even with Vista Ultimate and the 500GB x 2 HD is still too expensive.
-
I asked this same question on smallnetbuilder and apparently if the wireless card is a/g/n it can also work on the 5 ghz band. The intel card which this Asus has does work on both 2.4 and 5 ghz.
-
hm, wonder why the M70VM comes with 512MB DDR2 memory while the M50VM comes with a whole gig.
-
Does anyone know if the Monetvina M70 supports:
- Vista x64? (The GenTech site lists it as an option, so presumably it does)
- 8GB RAM?
-
64 yea ang 8 gigs... no and plus why would you need it? if it did it would cost mega bucks
-
It would cost approx GBP550 to get the memory. -
-
Thanks GenTechPC. I believe some buyers of the old model must feel bad after seen the control remote photo. Jajajajaja

Hi Ken,
What do you think the graphics/gaming performance difference will be between the 9600M GS 512MB and the 9700M GT 512MB specifically I am interested in the comparison between these two laptops.
ASUS M70VM-C1 (9600M GS 512MB) and the ASUS G71 (9700M GT 512MB)
50% more FPS? 25% more FPS?
I know the 9800M GT is about 3 times faster than the 9600M GT (according to some forums here I have read).
Kind regards
Lee -
Sorry just read the review here so that pretty much answers my question.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=282100
9700M GT is a much better card than the 9600M GT - not sure exactly to what degree but markedly better in those videos with FRAPS running especially the COD4 one. THe FPS stayed above 30 most of the time. That's pretty much a pre-requisite for me for gaming. I'm not interested in seeing videos of <15 FPS on HIGH. Would rather see everything set to Medium with consistent FPS >30. Much more enjoyable playing experience and is how I would prefer to play the game. -
Can anyone tell me what resolution and settings (screenshot of settings screen would be good) you could play Crysis at 30+FPS (consistent 30+ FPS) with the 9600GS 512MB that comes with the ASUS M70VM-C1?
1280x800 at Medium settings across the board? -
Hello Guys,
I'd like ask one question:
What is full specification of Hard Disk Drive on ASUS M70VM (320GB version) ?
Brand,SATA/SATA2,8/16MBcache,Avarage seek time;Average Latency. . .
Thank's -
It will differ. It's not one set brand.
-
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Probably Samsung, Toshiba or Western Digital since they are producing the 320 5400rpm drives. Personally, I'd think WD is less likely than the former. You can review general specs for all of their 320gb products if you search online.
Which, as fabarati notes, will depend on whom Asus had for their supplier contract in a given month or week, and does vary by production run in Taiwan. No way to predict which will be received in a specific notebook, regardless of the info you have in hand. -
I'm very interested in this laptop. Asus M70VM-C1. I have an Asus already so trust the brand completely. My only issue with it is the 9600M GS might not go the distance for gaming - I want to get 2 years out of it and am happy to play games at 1280x800 at medium settings (but not lower than that if preferable). I do have a good desktop so I can choose to play the more graphically intensive games on my desktop. Obviously the M570TU made that a non-issue for the most part as it's able to have the "best" single card out there for laptops at the moment BUT it's a LOT more expensive.
http://www.p4laptops.com.au/order-m70vm3.htm
Anyway this laptop is soooo fully featured and cheap relative to the M570TU (which I was considering as the alternative) that I can't look past it.
I have a couple of questions.
1. Does there appear to be anything wrong with this M70 in terms of the specs they are offering at the website above?
2. Does this M70 come with the "Splash" button function?
3. Is there a refresh of this laptop coming out "soon" (next month? or two) with a better video card? 9700GT? I would be MORE than happy to pay another $300 for this laptop with a 9700GT for an extra bit of gaming oomph.
Really hope I can get some answers.
Thankyou!
Kind regards

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
1. not that I can see.
2. I'm pretty sure all new Asus models have Splashgate installed.
3. No. The -vm model was just released with the Montevina update. Next update is probably at least 4-6 months away, and they are unlikely to put a -GT video card in their multimedia as that's more of a gaming card and they have the G series for that. -
Ace thanks. One more questions.
1. What FPS would I get running Crysis on the M70VM (9600M GS 512MB) at 1280x800 with all settings to medium?
Kind regards
Lee -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Check GenTech's review of the M70 here. Includes a video of Crysis.
-
He has Graphics set to High with Shadow and Shaders set to Medium - 9 FPS - that's too low for enjoyable gaming for me.
Ken then says
"If you want to get 30 FPS on Crysis you will need to set shader and shadows to low with resolution at 1280X720"
But my question still stands
What FPS would I get running Crysis on the M70VM (9600M GS 512MB) at 1280x800 with all settings to medium?
I'm guessing >30FPS but I would really like confirmation.
Kind regards
Lee -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Ah, OK.
As the resolution you're talking about is essentially the same, if you kick the shader/shadow settings up you'll probably be somewhere in the 20s (as a guess).
You'll be more likely to get a direct answer for this if you post a new thread in the Asus forum with this question, since the 9600mGS will perform similarly across platforms, regardless of the notebook that it's put into, and Asus has this in several models now. There are enough gamers around here that someone will either know off-hand or can run a quick check for you. -
Thanks ClearSkies. I have asked here
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=290345
no responses yet though.
I am really really interested in getting this M70vm-C1 - it's got everything I want but I'm "unsure" of the video card 9600M GS.
http://p4laptops.com.au/order-m70vm3.htm
It's either the M70VM or the M570TU (Clevo) at the moment.
http://p4laptops.com.au/order-m57ru-special.htm
The M570TU above is not as "specced" up as the ASUS above - only 1 yr warranty, only 1 hard disk bay, no bluray, no tvtuner and a lot more expensive if I did go with those. Plus it doesn't come with an OS.
The ASUS has 2 yr warranty, 2 hard disk bays, bluray, tv tuner and all the other things are the same (esata, hdmi, fingerprint) with same CPU - (I'm not worried by RAM speed or HD speed) but of course the BIG difference is the GPU.
I'm probably going to be a casual gamer on the ASUS as I have been with my current ASUS (as per my sig). I was just hoping to get a longer lasting card than my 7600GT in my F3Jm was.
I'll play a lot of STEAM games on it as well as Sup Com, Call of Duty 4, The Witcher, SIns of a Solar EMpire and I would like to play some of the newer titles coming out like SC2, Diablo3, Red Alert 3, HL2-EP3, Spore, Fallout3 and the one I expect to be a video card killer like Crysis...Far Cry2.
I want this laptop to last 2 years. The 7600GT can "barely" play crysis - not playably for me anyway and that game came out 6 months ago. I bought the F3Jm in Oct 2006.
Otherwise the M70VM ASUS is fantastic and cheaper - plus I love Splashtop - I reckon I will use that ALOT!
That's why I have been asking all the dumb questions about Crysis and 30+FPS running at Medium etc.
I've been doing my research on the M70VM as I will probably be ordering it early this week but I was hoping to try Vista 64 bit on it.
I know the M570TU can run Vista 64 bit.
But I'm not having much luck finding any 64 bit drivers for the M70VM which spells "problem" to me for my 64 bit Vista idea.
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=M70Vm&type=map&mapindex=2
Is anyone running 64 bit Vista on the M70VM??
Are there 64 bit drivers for the M70VM? (Am I looking in the wrong place?)
It's not going to stop me going for the M70 just want to ask before I waste my time trying.
Thanks
Lee -
For some Montevina models, the driver disk for Vista has 64 bit drivers as well as 32bit. Isn't that true for the M70 as well?
-
The m50 driver disc says it supports both 32 bit and 64 bit vista, so I Would assume that the m70 does too.
-
argh. decisions, decisions.
with the G71V coming out next month, and doing everything the M70 is supposed to do (esp. if the "optional" TV Tuner comes through) -- except with a much better video card and Vista Ultimate 64-bit -- time to shut up and wait?
don't need quad-core action, but that sweeter video card (and maybe the option for dual 7200rpm drives) ... mmmmmmm. -
Just ordered the m70vm -c1 yesterday...from Gentechpc - mostly because of their fine support on this forum...thanks to Vicous' comments elsewhere on this forum I also got a 250 gb USB drive as part of the deal...I got vista home sp1...I may upgrade os to support working from home and while traveling ...I can use vista but there are more options for remote access to work if I install XP pro- at least for the next 6 months or so..
After having a really bad experience with my HP zd7000 laptop which had a design problem (currently only operates 10-30 minutes before shutting down) - HP refused to make good on fixing my zd7000 even though they lost on a class action lawsuit on the issue (appears I missed deadline to get in on the fix via this action) - as such I decided to never again buy hp and so in searching around ASUS seemed like a really quality lappy and the C1 had everything I wanted and then some..also even though I can get a corporate discount from Dell - Asus is still a better deal - (technically but falls slightly short in warrantly and damage coverage for about approximately the same price.)
it is out of stock until the middle of next week though :-( -
The ASUS M70vm looks fantastic no doubt about it. I would have been really happy with it - except for the video card But I want to play games on mine so I needed something with a better video card.
An M70VM with a 9800M would be spectacular! -
Hi sorry for the threadmancy but I'm wondering if anyone know if there is a kit for putting the second hard disk into the extra bay on the M70Vm?
I've used up a lot of the 320gb mine came with and need another disk... -
Contact ASUS customer support. They can ship you one for a small fee. Its pretty reasonable.
B -
Or the eStore (I suppose by "kit" you mean the HDD bracket?)
-
Hey, I just wanted to say thanks very much for posting this thread (and for creating this whole site, really). I bought an M70vm that came with Windows Vista, and I wanted to switch to XP. Having a list of all the drivers I needed and collecting them in one place saved me a *ton* of time tracking everything down. So thanks!
-
Thanks for the positive feedback! Welcome to the forums and enjoy your notebook.

Hey, I'm new here though I've used this site and forums for info cause i was buying a new lappy and i got the m70VM and is awsome but I'm having problems finding the right drivers. I tried to download the nvidia and realtek audio drivers posted but when i try to run the nvidia ones after it initially loads, nothing else follows. With the realtek ones it says "no drivers are supported in this driver package". Another thing, how updated is the video card driver uploaded? I've checked around laptopvideo2go and frankly, i am more confused . What would be an optimum driver for playing games?
-
Latest drivers are usually a good point to start, although they can sometimes be buggy and unstable, so you may want to "jump back" a couple of minor versions.
You can now download drivers straight from nVidia, since they recently started releasing mobile driver packs.
Not sure about realtek.
(BTW your problem with the nvidia drivers was possibly caused by not using the modded inf; check the documentation on laptopvideo2go for details). -
Would all the drivers from the M70Vm XP downgrade work with M70Vn?
-

Would this fit with the Asus M70Vn? The specs seem right but i am not sure if the plug (inside 2.5mm/outside 5.5mm) will fit the laptop.

Also would this fit with the M70Vn?

Delta 90W fits all Asus laptops using 90W and under.
-
Would using a 65W (19v,3.42A) charger damage the laptop due to the difference in Amps? I only intend to use the 65W charger for internet and word use.

Hi Ken,
I see your video review in youtube for ASUS N81Vp-C1.Nice Laptop ratio price/performance,but I'd like to know, what is size of ASUS's ATi Radeon HD 4650 with 1Gig Memory?Maybe is 73mm Width and 78mm Length ? Do you want to measureing and what is Video Memory (Speed (ns) and Manufacturer (Hynix,Samsung,Qimonda)? If you can take one picture for more easy...
I'd like to know because I want to upgrade my M70Vm's Nvidia 9600M GS to 4650 with GDDR3. . .
ATi's 4650 calculating very good Crysis (much better than Geforce 9600/50M GS/GT.I'm no sure for 9700M GT)
Thank's.
Edit:Asus HD4650 1GiG pic'z : One and Two. -
I have an M70VM-X1 that I bought from Newegg, and I'm trying to put XP on it, but it didn't come with any sort of a driver disc - only a recovery disc, to reload the factory default Vista system. Since what I've read makes it sound like all the XP drivers are actually Vista drivers that are just compatible anyway, I tried downloading the necessary drivers from Asus' website, but while XP installs just peachy, installing the chipset INF update corrupts the MBR somehow. Does anybody know how I can get working XP drivers for this bloody machine?
