Strange? how come my X61 with X3100 graphics posts a score of 3.4under vista home premium? Shouldn't the M5 with ATI graphics fare much better?

Better than X3100 graphics but not a lot better, M51Sr uses ATI Mobility HD2400 and only 128MB, also Asus stock driver always perform much slower than other drivers.

Yes that is correct, in fact, the bottom cover of M51 looks exactly like F3 series.

the battery looks different. is it different? if it is then this is incredibly stupid of them. so what else is new. lenovo has a few batteries that fit all their models for the past few years. asus has like 20 different batteries. you think it would be a bright idea to instill confidence in your product by assuring your customers that the most important part and the most wearable part will be available for many years to come and will still be manufactured? i just dont get it. who overseas the development of this stuff? doesnt anyone get it? if a customer buys your product and then cant find a battery which does not have 2 years shelf life then the customer will steer away from your (asus) product at all costs? its a repeating trend. i have customers from years ago who bought the z71v, z63a, w3j, and many other legacy models that want new batteries but are reluctant to get them because they know these batteries have not been manufactured in a long time. asus get it right please!

I updated the VGA drivers on my M51Sr from the ASUS website and it brought my Graphics rating up to 3.4. How else could I bring this rating up?

    Thanks

The battery is the same 6 cell, the picture you see is a 9 cell battery I was testing.

You can try use Mobility Modder from driverheaven.net use the latest ATI drivers:

Thanks, that gave me a .1 point boost, I currently rate as follows with the latest ATI drivers:

    Processor: 5.1
    RAM: 4.8
    Graphics: 3.5
    Gaming Graphics: 3.8
    Primary Hard Disc: 5.2

I still feel like I should be getting more out of this Radeon HD 2400...am I dreaming?

Hmm.....Vista rates my brother's VAIO (VGN-FZ180E) with a GeForce 8400 GT at 5.9 for graphics. I would expect his to be higher (256MB vs the HD 2400's 128MB) but that's A LOT higher.

M51Sr is not a gaming machine, it's business class notebook. The numeric keyboard is nice to have. :)

LOL! That is WAY to high! Isn't 5.9 the maximum? And that card is an entry level (well, the higher end entry level), not even a mainstream card.

Yeah! That's what I find confusing is how his received such a high rating.

The keypad and keyboard are nice on this machine and it's very stylistic. I didn't buy it for gaming anyway so overall I'm quite happy with it.

I do not understand why ASUS would replace the F3 series with this model. I own the F3SA-A1 ($999 from newegg.com) and my Windows Experience Index is 4.7 total. Here's the breakdown:

    Processor 5.1
    Memory (RAM) 4.8
    Graphics 4.7
    Gaming graphics 4.9
    Primary hard disk 5.1

I added 2 GB RAM to boost the memory score slightly. The graphics scores are much higher than the M51Sr because my F3SA-A1 has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 with 512 MB memory and I am using Catalyst 8.1 drivers from the ATI website. I see 8.2 drivers were released on February 13 -- time to upgrade.

Was there something wrong with the F3 series? My F3SA-A1 is Penryn compatible after the latest BIOS update. So why the change?

I dont think its a direct replacement. Its most liekly aimed at people who want some graphical power, but not enough to play all games on high

This actually might be good as they'll finally concentrate on getting those individualized models just right instead of the lackluster support now.

this is the same reason why i will probably never buy any HP product. I have a HP Laserjet 3150 AIO which work perfectly well since the early days of Windows XP. I recently got a new desktop PC [Windows Vista] for the family without checking that all drivers are available. To my biggest surprise, HP does not have and would not be having a driver for Windows Vista. Called up the customer service and the moron I spoke with couldnt give a clear reason and he insisted that I buy a new printer if I want a printer for Vista. I told him straight away that even if I am getting a new printer, that wont be HP and I mean my word. Better get my family a Canon i-sensys MF 4150/4140 that can serve us and I am assured to get driver for if we change the OS.

Unplugged and on battery save mode it says 2 hours but seems to get more. I'll try watching a DVD soon and time it.

both M51Sr and M51Sn looks exactly the same except M51Sr has one eSATA port on the right and M51Sn does not.
