Just left Best Buy with the new Asus G75VW Laptop!
Here is a quick review of the few hours I've had my hands on it :D

The weight vs the old Asus G74 is much less and very sexy if you ask me. I've had the MSI version of this and the led lights really bugged me Asus gets A+ for looks!

There are 2-4GB Sticks of ram stuck below the keyboard which are nearly impossible to get to. Tearing it apart you would have to remove the monitor to change it out :( I bought two matching sticks of 2X4GB Corsair to make it 16GB total. I will run some new benchmarks later on.

I bought this laptop because of the price $1249 no sales tax in Oregon and because it has the Nvidia 660M 2GB VS the 670 rebadged 570 crap. I want to push this system to the limit so we shall see :)

So question for you guys is this laptop dual channel or quad channel?

I will have a full review here by tonight and also my Blog [link removed by moderator - sorry no linking to own site except in sig - forum rules] Need to take the wife out to dinner I guess for her Birthday :p

Here are some pictures to start with. I just did a quick video review.

I just put in the 8GBs of DDR3 1333 ram sticks and my scores dropped down to 7.6 from 7.9 checking Cupz it shows the stock ram running at 1600 :) Looks like another trip back down to Frys to get new ram!

Sorry if I posted in the wrong spot.

OK so far it seems like this system runs very quiet even when pushed through some hard benchmarks. I've been pushing the 660m by overclocking it and no blue screens yet but I will push it till I get one! lol

I'm excited to get my new set of DDR3 1600 8gb ram and along with the Corsair Force GT Sata3 working. I've looked everywhere and cannot find drivers for this thing :(
I haven't had much time to get the benchmarks done between birthday and kids they will be here today!

Hmm. In bestbuy it says 65W adapter, is it true? And does optimus(GPU switched off, while works only integrated from cpu) works?

Is there a way to find out the TDP of the 660M? Is it 45W or 75W? By the way great job on scoring one early.

    Awesome videos paul
    +rep to you

Can you do a 3DMark11 benchmark and 3DMark Vantage? Maybe do the benchmarks also with the stable overclock you get? I am interested in seeing how the 660M perform
    Thank you :)

Not sure I will look into it. I'm getting about 4.5hrs of general use on the battery so far. I haven't tried gaming yet to see how long it goes for. Do you know if there is a way to grab the system drivers off the main hard drive? I can't find any online.

Thanks! Just having fun! It's been awhile since I have been this excited about new tech.

Alright here is the base score for 3D Vantage!

I tried to set the Graphics memory with a overclock of 6040mhz and she froze up about half way through the benchmark lol

Crazy the driver links where not there yesterday! What's also nice the laptop has no pre-loaded bloatware

If you could also post the link or full page of the benchmark so that we can see clearly the GPU and CPU score :)

It seems we have the power of a heavily o/c 560M according to your 1st Vantage run.

Can you post the url to the results as well since the "Graphics score" is the most interesting with the benchmarks

I have no idea either since you are likely the only one in the forum with the new Kepler GTX 660M right now :p. Maybe wait for someone who is more knowledgeable. Can you try to push core clock to see how far it can go? That would be the one that matters when you run Vantage. Also 3D Mark 11 if thats not too much to ask :p

Based on your youtube video, I'm pretty sure the GPU is soldered on board similar to the G74.

Max Temp of the gpu during testing is 57c!!!

Couple of questions do you think the added 2X4 gb of ddr 1600 will help?
Do you think the ssd will help on benchmarks?

Ok I need to go run a 20 mile trail right now I have a 50 mile race coming so need to go but I will get more benchmarks up. I bought BF3 will test later

Don`t look at the P score. That is CPU and GPU combined. Look at the GPU score. And compare with these numbers . Look at "P GPU" under Vantage and you will see that 570M score about 9550 in average. The last score there is 570M overclocked (Its a good overclocker)

EDIT: Oh you mean the 670M. Doh. Yeah its faster than 660M, about 11000 in GPU score. Its a 80W GPU btw

Do not fall for the newbie trap of thinking higher is better. The 670m is just a
rebadged card. The 670m is a fermi 40nm card vs the gtx660m 28nm kepler card. Simple terms 2010 process technology is the 670m vs 2012 process technology which is the gtx660m.

A 7870m is what you should be aiming for as that is 28nm low tdp maybe 45w-50w that performs as well as the 670m 90-100w card.

I have been waiting for this laptop to release. I have the G73JH from BestBuy which is fairly trashed now after being on a deployment. Having said that: Will I regret buying the G75 from BESTBUY instead of buying one from newegg or tigerdirect? I'm not HUGE into overclocking and benchmarking. I just want a stellar laptop which can play modern games on HIGH settings. Should I just head down to BESTBUY and get the model you got? Or is the G75VW-TS72 THAT much better?

Thanks! Congrats on your new toy!

If you want to hear and feel temps run furmark(i think someone can correct me) it's the extreme test, which should make your cpu downclock to stay at stable temps.

wow 86 watts. My laptop takes 70w playing dirt 3 or running 3dmark06. Maybe I am right gt650m or 7770m with 3612qm maybe the perfect replacement at 70w.

    Review Asus G75V Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews

If you could run 3dmark06 it would be a fair test to compare to this with a 670m that takes 126.7w. Looks the gtx 660m is more a 45w card then a 75w card.

My wife dropped the brick power supply in the middle of running prime95 = furmark burn test together! It shut off lol waiting for it to click back on. She was sweeping...

    Downloading it now!

145 Watts AVG with both running full on!

101 watts avg through the whole test!

I think the 670m is 75w so 25w less =50w card ish. Seems about right with kepler being 2x performance per watt nearly. Seems like amd and nvidia have some great cards. I am starting to think amd are just 15$ better performance per watt then kepler in mobile.

Any chance you can test OC of the card and some game FPS? i want to buy one with 660m and as it runs really cool, i tought about OCing it, to reach better performance for the money when gaming. (kind of, activate MSI turbo boost but manually)

Can you test OC and gaming?

    Thanks!

Nice! So it's around 45W-50W. I guess Eurocom and Dell got it wrong for being a 75W card then. Now let's hope that it will be priced lower than the 670M.
