Are there any new drivers/updates for the G73JW? Will they be posted on this thread
-
How was everyone's shipping experience? I have been checking UPS's tracking status everyday, it has not been updated for 4 days, the location of my package is HODGKINS, IL for the past four days. This has never happened to me before, did any one have similar experience? I'm supposed to get my G73jw tomorrow, really worried and excited.

Hi all you lucky G73JW owners
Does anyone know the average FPS improvement when the GPU is overclocked in games like CRYSIS, METRO 2033, or any other graphically demanding games
If anyone could posts some before then after videos or 3dmark scores it would be great.
I have just Purchase mine from Power notebooks.com shipping to the UK and I Really hope the graphics when overclocked are near the G73JH
Thanks -

I received my Targus XL rolling bag yesterday. The G73JW fits snuggly inside, but it fits. The massive brick AC power adapter is a challenge, but it will fit in the back pocket.
Bag itself is pretty nice. The handle zips into the bag and it looks like a large briefcase - you can barely see the wheels. Not a whole lot of room (compared to my McKlein R series Chicago), but I am hopeful that it will fit in a small jet, at least under the seat. I get to test that theory next week.
Bag has lots of pockets and two removal pouches for mice (and I assume an adapter, but ours is way too big).

I've seen allot of posts asking about a sleeve for the G73jh and jw. I was looking for some extra protection While it was in a backpack so I took a chance on this: Amazon.com: DURAGADGET Black Water Resistant Laptop / Notebook Carry Case / bag with ultimate protection for Nova tech X1 GTX 18.4" / X1 NNB-788 / X1 Pro NNB-789 - Lifetime Warranty: Electronics
It fits real nice on the 12.8" dimension but is about 1.5" too long on the other 16.6 dimension. It is thin enough to fit snugly but not overly so into the ROG backpacks built in sleeve...but as you can see is a little too long. I did bend it over and pulled the corners of the bag over it and was able to zip up the bag without too much trouble. It does work but it is a little too tight for my liking.
If this thing was just a little bit shorter it would be perfect. I have a Slappa Mask bag on order because the ROG bag is too small to carry everything I need. Hopefully the sleeve will work better in that bag.
Hope this helps out everyone and if you see anything better please let me know. ThanksAttached Files:

Now lets see if this one Laptop Bags|TBT046US| by Targus will fit.
Does the foam padding give some leeway? The one I linked may be a bit small but according to this person http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834995575&Tpk=tBT046US it fits fine as the JH is the same size as the JW -

i'll order mine sometime next week when my g73 ships and let you know webrender

ebags.com says it won't fit. ( Targus Zip-Thru 17'' Air Traveler Laptop Case - eBags.com ) - though I'm not sure why. That egghead review seemed pretty sound though.
-
they are probably basing it off the dimensions of the G73 vs the bag
16.6 x 12.8 x 2.3 in laptop vs 16.5” x 12.6” x 2.17” (bag) by basing it purely on the numbers alone it "should" not fit but I rather trust the newegg review since that person actually put the laptop in the bag. Comparing stuff this way is not the best for a consumer and better to rely on someone that has the bag
But john0997 can you measure the laptop and see if the 16.6 x 12.8 x 2.3 in dimensions are actually correct please? -

Hello Guys,
I was in a store (J&R) near me, and saw this lappy. Its out on the floor so I could play around with it. It feels and looks like a great laptop for the price. I have a question, since many of you are ordering it (powernotebooks, xoticpc etc) are you getting the extreme processor (i7 940xm) with it, or something else?? Is the i7 940xm worth the coinage?
If your not why not simply walk into your local store and pick one up?
Thanks -
not worth it and don't have a J&R near me and rather not deal with best buy

-right-click desktop
-Personalize
-Windows color (at the bottom)
-Advanced appearance settings
here you can change icon size (I use 32). I also usually change icon spacing, both vertical (I use 50) and horizontal (I use 55). -

Thanks for all the suggestions - I can see my screen now, and am not blinded by icons anymore! Still was never able to manage the touchpad scroll opton for whatever reason - I got the scroll icon at several points, but no actual scrolling of size. I usually disable my scrolling zones to prevent inadvertent scrolling, but maybe I'll play around with that too.
I sure am impressed with this laptop, and Windows 7. I've begun using my photo editing and web design software and everything seems to be working together nicely -- display, performance, etc.
I still want the G53jw though... as a second, "portable" machine. Hope it is available soon, in its original published specs (not downgraded) and I find some extra $$. It would sure be fun to run two of these babies! LOL

I just received it!! It's perfect! it's a monster compared to my macbook

Now the process of rebuilding with a clean OS and updated drivers.... -
I have to say the default color settings are an issue. Definitely too much blue. I tried the downloadable profile that people suggested, but it didn't seem to change much...
Anyways, I played a little with the settings in the nvidia control panel. I went to "adjust desktop color settings" then "use nvidia settings" -> color channel: blue and brought down the brightness to 40%. I also pushed the digital vibrance up to 70%. Do these look better to anyone? has anyone tried something else? -
Everyone, Please Help me!
Just got the laptop from xoticpc today, it was perfect... until I decided to do a clean install with Win 7 Pro. But now when I start the computer, it shows 2 Win 7 Operating Systems and it asks me to choose one; however, both of them are the Win 7 pro I installed, and my friend tried to help me but he accidentally clicked "Upgrade Windows" while playing around with the Win 7 Pro disc, now I have no idea what's going on, the computer is currently "upgrading" to Win 7 pro although it already is.
How do I recover to the factory condition with the Recovery Partition?
Thanks very much! -
I bought mine 9/16/10 and received it 9/20/10. I asked for the RMA on 9/22/10 and sent it in on 9/29/10. I've been waiting in limbo since they got it on 9/30/10. I'll keep ya informed. I hope we both have fully fixed units by the time its over -
Am curious about the backlight for the keyboard. If you purchase red backlight, shouldn't it be possible to change that on the system considering it's an LED light?
Trying to decide if I want to get the red light on the keyboard as well. -

Add me to the list , couldn't resist the ASUS G73JW-XA1, going back to 17'' madness, shipping soon, arriving next week

Edit: By the way, Thanks for the great job customizing to laptop! I love it! -
Why not save yourself $40?! I found a youtube video of it somewhere as well... -

So to change the colours, it's simply using colored plastic... I thought it was actual LEDs that changed colours. Will have to work on this when I get mine. -

Now that more people seem to have gotten their g73jw, has anyone been able to figure out exactly how to fix the sluggish webcam issue?
-
Well, I finally ordered the beast! Thanks to Hutsady, and everyone else at Xoticpc. Now you guys just need to hit the magical time foward device already....
-
i officially switched my order from a g53 over to the g73jw two days ago now.... just playing the (shorter than the g53) waiting game again.

Greetings to All,
I couldn't decide if I wanted to build another desktop or just go with a desktop replacement and be able to take it with me when I go away from home. I figured the games I play, this laptop should perform just fine.
Quad and the rest of you have made this first laptop purchasing experience a little better for me. It definitely helped reassure that this laptop will do exactly what I want it to do and have a nice warranty.
About 15 minutes ago I pulled the trigger on the most expensive computer I have ever purchased from XoticPC. I ordered the BEAST!!! I had some upgrades done to it. I ordered the Thermal Paste upgrade. Even though the computer seems to run cool just as it is, I want the reassurance that it's going to run optimal. I ordered the Hybrid 500gb Hard Drives with 32mb Cache. I ordered the blue backlit keyboard upgrade. I also ordered the Intel Advanced Network Card with the WiMAX feature.
If anyone has any opinions on these upgrades or have any experience with them, especially the hard drives, please let me know. I was also worried that the backlit keyboard might be cheesy. I hope it looks well done. Thanks in advance!
I am anxious to receive my new computer. It seems like it's going to be a long waiting game. I was told on chat that it could take 5-10 business days just to build the computer and then another 3-6 business days for shipping. ;-(
Alright guys, I haven't found how I can apply a signature here yet, but any help would be greatly appreciated. I looked in UserCP but didn't see it.
Alright, I hope to be up and running soon and will definitely be on this forum studying earlier posts to optimize my new rig.
Respectfully,
Kyle -

I'm sure blue for the keyboard would look great. It'll go well with the overall blue-lighting scheme the G73 has.
WiMAX is cool, if you've got service in your area and have a provider. Personally, I travel only occasionally, and to places with plenty of WiFi to go around, but that's not everyone's case.
So, just wait, it'll be worth it! This ain't your granny's laptop. Runs almost any game out there at max settings and full res. My last laptop couldn't even play WoW on full settings at 1080p without the framerate dropping below 20. Now I get over 80 fps on that game. I think it only stutters on two games at Ultra settings and full res - Crysis Warhead and Metro 2033.
Anyway, enough rambling, I'll let you enjoy your experience when it gets to you.
Oh, and you can't put up a sig until you've got at least 5 posts, just to keep the spammers away. -
