AU optronics does the screens in those Planar LCDs they tend to be pretty fast but often times overbright.

I have had no heat issues with the G72GX -

If you have a game that dips below 24FPS (standard tv viewing frames) then maybe its good to oc back to stock. clocks. Mileage may vary. -

Can anybody direct me how to find the bracket for the second hard drive? My GPU on my aspire 7720 went out, so I'd like to transfer that hard drive over to this laptop. How do I check for compatibility between that hard drive and this computer? Thanks.
-
find the asus estore for the bracket. or the easiest thing to do is just a a cheapie usb external hard drive base for your hard drive. i've no idea what an aspire 7720, so just make sure you know whether its pata or sata...pata has all those individual pins, while sata does not

anyone else think the g72 screen has a "washed out" look to it? And the blacks dont get all that black?

Hello, I have had this model now 2 weeks and it works great.
No real issues,
Im still wondering why the turbo gear mode doesn't seem to work.
Has this feature been disabled on this model, or am I not doing something correctly?
Thanks -

Can anyone tell me what PSU the G72GX RBBX05 or X09 ship with?
Newegg has a 120 watt one that lists I think the G71 as compatible, and a 180 watt one that's only compatible with the G70 (apparently has a different connection). -
The one I bought from BestBuy came with a 150W PSU, which is the standard issue from them.
-
Thanks...well darn, I don't know what to make of that then since Newegg only sells 120 watt adapters
-
It is possible it's just a wrong labeling on their part. They probably get it from the same ASUS' distributor, so I'm sure they get the same pre-loaded box that BestBuy gets.
-
Oh, sorry I mean like for stand alone power supplies, Newegg just sells a 120 watt one that's compatible with a bunch of systems (including the G71?), and a 180 watt one that's only compatible with the G70 and apparently has a different plug.
-
Ah, I see what you're saying... I wouldn't get a 120W for it... Try searching elsewhere, or even contacting ASUS for a part.
-
Thanks for the info!

Is the RBBX05 really worth the extra money over the old GX-RX05? I mean yeah you get a slightly better resolution, 7200 hard drive and quad core processor, but I've heard that at the moment the core 2 duo performs better anyway.
-

There's also the changes in appearance to consider. And quads Are The Way Of The Future, so grab one when you can. Most games are easily run by 2.0 GHz clocks, and those that aren't are usually multithreaded.
-
Personally I liked the appearance of the old model better, but thanks you have given me something to ponder.
-
Myself personally I want a quad if at all possible. With the i7 it doesn't even matter since it can 'overclock' itself if it's only running one or two cores, but even still I personally would want the Core 2 quad over the duo (and right now I sort of want the Core 2 quad over the i7, since the i7 systems seem extra buggy... )

Here's a question for you guys. I'm in Australia and its a lot cheaper me to get this computer from the US. My dad is going to be over there in late January for business.
What stores in the US stock the Asus G72GX RBBX05 or even the G71GX-RX05?
Is there any where you can just walk in and get a good price? -
I think it's a Best Buy exclusive.
-
Surely not both models?
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Both are Best Buy exclusives. Weird secondary codes--RX05, RBBX05--mean Best Buy models.
-
-
The Best Buy availability tracker is flaky though. At a minimum it won't show any stock if there are just a few left.
-
Ah ok, thanks for your help guys. It sucks that the G72GX RBBX09 isn't available for in store pickup.
-
Looks like the X09 is sold out now anyway. Too bad, that seemed like a great system. I probably would have ordered it if you could get AC adapters for it
-
Yeah I'll probably just end up getting the old g71rxr05 here in Australia for US$1415, comes with a 3 year warranty.

Hi All
I've purchased this laptop 1 week ago from bestbuy . I am confused about temps. Here is why. My firs laptop was Gateway P-7801u it idling temp was 55-58C by GPU here i have 63-65C. and strange thing it can go up from 63 to 69 in idle and then fan kicks and decrease it till 63C(did someone have the same?bios ver 401). On full load Gateway was 75-80C here i have 86-88C. What is the critical temps for that GPU?I wonder why Asus didn't have holes in front of fan? -
Guys any ideas about post above???Please tell me do you have same temps on stock??
-
The idle might be your GPU isnt downcloaking in 2d under window 7 , dl GPUz go to the sensor tab and see if the clock go down to 200/120, if they arent probably try other driver, NVIDIA GeForce v186.82 WHQL Drivers, when i had a g71 runing both furmark and ibt at the same time i used to go 85C as my max, in games most i saw was 82C, but i did use a cooler on it.
-
-
Guys, could you please post your idle and load temps with stock frequencies?Without cooling pads.
-
In case you missed mine...
Idle:
CPU - 36C
GPU - 61C -
I own a G72GX and i ran CPU-Z and it says my core clock is only at 1596.0 MHZ and my multiplier is only at x6.0 is my cmos messed up should i change it to 9.5?
-
that is intel's speedstep. it will downclock the CPU while it is idle and not needed. Nothing is wrong.
-
Thank you so much I thought I screwed sumpin up
-
NVM I figured it out. I do have 1 more question though what does "downgrade DRAM timing" mean? and should my CMOS be set to enabled for this function as i have 3 sticks of 2gig DDR2.
-
I read that this laptop went on sale in October to about $1099? I really wanted the price to go on sale again for Xmas, but it didn't =(.
I've waited about 3 months for the price to go down. I'm thinking I just should get it now since I start school tomorrow. But then again, I've already waited 3 months, so maybe few more weeks wouldn't hurt...that is IF the price does go down.
Any suggestions? -
I'd guess it'll be gone fairly soon. The X09 is already out of stock.

any one here with the G72GX use the AI Recovery? How many gbs is it? I am using it right now and so far I'm on my 3rd disk(4.7gb each)
-
-
Yeah, I'd guess it's on the way out, so if you want it now... (like to avoid possible USB issues on Nehalam notebooks )
-
Ugh...
I wish they would put it on sale once again =P
