    Hi to ALL!!
I was looking around forum and found that many people interested in gaming performance and temperatures of Asus G71/G72 series laptops. So, I decided to put this two together and write this review. Feel free to comment and I'll be glad for some updates from your side.
I have tested 10 games of different genres. Guess, everybody will find something interesting. Let's go!

    Hardware used:
    Asus G72GX RBBX-05
    CPU Intel Core2Duo [email protected]
NOTE: all test were run at stock CPU speed.
    GPU Nvidia GeForce GTX260M @Core500 Memory800 Shader 1250.
NOTE: I am using Nvidia System tools profile management. It loads overclocked GPU frequencies(Core550 Memory950 Shader 1375) only during some demanding games(I'll mention them) and then after quitting game it goes back to stock.
    RAM 6Gb DDR2
    Cooler Enermax Aeoulus CP-001G

    Software,OS and drivers
    OS Windows 7 Home premiumx64
    GPU driver DOX's 195.62 v1.1(thank you Dox)
    All other drivers stock(from Asus)
    Fraps 3.0.3
    HWmonitor 1.15

    Games and benchmarks
    Devil May Cry4 benchmark
    Unreal Tournament 3 benchmark tool
    Crysis Warhead bench tool
    Borderlands
    Pro Evolution Soccer 2010
    NFS Shift
    Dragon Age Origins
    C&C 3 Kane's wrath
    Tom Clancy's EndWar
    Street Fighter 4 benchmark
    How temperatures were measured
Idle temp was measured. Then each game was played for 20 min(which is enough to reach GPU's max temp) and after each game temps were decreased to idle.(approx 10min). After that next game was lauched again.

    Let's look at results

    Idle temps:

Hey, do you recommend me an inexpert user to use custom video drivers like you did Tim?

Also, if the ones from Asus are not enough are the ones from Nvidia any good?

EDIT: Also, what program do you use for overclocking the GPU? Ntune?

I am using Dox 195.62 v1.1 drivers. Link. They are good. They give me 5-10% more performance over Nvidias latest 195.62.
I am using Nvidia system tools 6.05 link

Thanks man, +1 rep you are always very helpful.

About the video drivers, I dont need any knowledge right? I just do the same procedure like any Asus drivers installation?.

EDIT: first I should install the video driver then the Nvidia System Tools?

Here is my little procedure follow it and all will be ok. Link
Yes first you need to install driver and then system tools.
    Do it this way
    1)Driver
2)PhysX(Dox driver don't have PhysX. Just download latest and install manually)
    3)System tools.

Ok, I finished with everything. Thanks again for the guide and help you provided me.

One last question, I should only run the GPU at Nvidias clock speeds if the game is not running smoothly, right?

It's up to you. I am using Profile policy. I am loading profile with high clocks for GPU intensive games and leaving it at stock when game is running smoothly.

But thanks again for clearing me up my doubts.

    I think it will
    Here is system recommended config
    Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 GHz or AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core 5200+
    • 512 MB 3D Hardware Accelerator Card
    • Video Card (Nvidia): Geforce 9800 GT
    • Memory: 2 GB RAM

Geforce GTX260M equals to desktop 9800GT. So, I think game will run with no problems.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that using a cooler with the bottom lid open drops the temperature a lot under load (something like 10C for CPU and GPU). Can someone confirm this please? That would be a deal maker for me.

For sure!! I am using cooler. With bottom panel, and it drops me 10C. I think that without it drop will be ~15C

Nice! Is that with a cooler that push the air toward the laptop or pulls it from the laptop?

EDIT: Are the temps you're reporting from your gaming benches are with or without the cooler? I really hope they're without it!

I am using cooler that blows TO laptop. My temps were with cooler. But my ambient was 25C, if you have your room cooler than that I think max you get without cooler will be 88C-89C

Well, for my first post, I realize that this is not a very useful one. I just want to take the time to thank Tim4 for creating this thread and taking the time himself to benchmark the games and provide numbers in here for us to use. This thread, along with the G72GX-RBBX05 review thread helped me to make a very informed choice to buy this laptop two weeks ago to the day. This is a great machine and I've been more than thrilled with it in the short time I've had to use it. Thanks again for such a useful thread and for actually updating it the few times you did with a nice variety of games. All I need now is to update the drivers and buy a good cooler.

Thanks to the wealth of info on here, new G72 owner,
    David Pietras

    Hello everyone,
i just bought an ASUS G72GX-RBBX05 few days ago, i admit its a great laptop but i got an issue when i launch any game for exemple GRID on 1600x900 + max graphic it work great for the first 5 mins then when the GPU temp go for like 95c it start lagging (3 FPS) for like 3 mins then it goes back to normal and after 5 mins same thing happen...

I usually look for the fps to be around 40 on all games. Is 25 really acceptable for games? I thought that would produce stuttering..
