Congrats man. Sure, tag me when you get it.
The tweaking session will take anywhere between 2-4 hours so make sure you have enough time on your hand.
Also, you will need a fast internet connection. I cannot work with a slow connection.
when you receive your laptop, you will be greeted by the Windows 10 Setup Wizard and you will hear Ms. Cortana speaking, when you are prompted to login to your wireless network, do not do that otherwise you will be forced to sign in with a Microsoft Account, instead, click skip on the bottom left and proceed by entering a username for your computer and so forth.
Once you're on your desktop, now you can connect to the internet. Download TeamViewer and install it from this link: https://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/windows/
then come to the forums and tag me and I'll then send you a private message so we can arrange a time to do the tweaking. All you will need is to run TeamViewer, it will give you a username and ID which you can then pass on to me so I can login to your laptop temporarily to do the tweaks.
these are the tweaks that I do:
1- Uninstallation of all the Windows Store Garbage Apps like 3D Paint, Print 3D, Alarms & Clock, Feedback Hub, Maps, Groove Music, News, Weather, etc.
2- Removing all Windows 10 Privacy Invasion stuff like Telemetry, sending your keystrokes to Microsoft, automatically installing suggested apps in the background, allowing Microsoft to conduct experiments on your laptop, disabling automatic driver updates through Windows updates, disabling Windows 10 ads, disabling Cortana, Cloud Search etc.
3- Removal of nVIDIA and Intel Telemetry
4- Adjusting a lot of options in PC Settings like disabling Windows Tablet Mode (you have a laptop not a tablet), disabling suggestions appearing in the start menu, disabling automatically connecting to Paid WiFi Hotspots, disabling Game DVR which reduced performance in games, and a lot more.
5- Replacing Cortana with a much better search tool that finds results instantly called Everything which finds any file you want as soon as you start typing even a few letters of its name and it doesn't even rely on the Windows Indexing Service to do this!
6- Restoring the classic Windows Photo Viewer
7- Restoring the Classic Windows 7 Start Menu
8- Removal of the new and useless 3D Objects Folder that appears when you open "Computer"
9- Completely disabling Windows Defender from its roots (including all scheduled tasks and startup files) for those who want to install their own AV. ESET NOD32 Antivirus is highly recommended if you want the utmost security with the least system performance impact.
10- Updating all drivers to the latest versions in case they weren't up to date.
11- Disabling the performance hit that is caused by the Meltdown and Spectre patches recently released by Microsoft (optional, only if you don't mind having this security vulnerability and would rather have your CPU's full performance back)
12- Overprovisioning your SSD anywhere between 10-20% depending on how much space you can spare to ensure optimal and consistent performance at all times.
13- Blocking the Google Chrome Software Reporter Tool (which causes a high system load when it is scanning files)
14- Updating all drivers
15- Creating a system restoration image using Macrium Reflect

What do you think regarding the performance difference between new generation i7 and i9? Does it worth to go for i9? Will there be any bottleneck issue with i7 along with gtx1080?
Donald@Paladin44 likes this. -
I have it reserved for a may 20th release. Ordered the i7. i was afraid of the i9 because of excess heat or noise issues. but beware, the i9 and possibly the i7 come with dual power bricks. dont think there will be a bottleneck no matter which version you get tho

cant wait tho. THIS THING LOOKS AMAZING!. there are no vents on the bottom which makes it perfect for my on-bed gaming to help ensure my divorce

I'd have gone for the i9. If this is the same internally as the G703VI (KL model), then you'd be just fine with an undervolt (the default overclock out of the box had very excessive voltage). The cooling is pretty exceptional.
In either case, enjoy! Bit jealous of the 2 extra cores.Donald@Paladin44 likes this. -
thanks man. i was actually considering the i9. but I'm still a little concerned about the heat and fan noise vs the i7. trying to keep it to a minimum
Donald@Paladin44 likes this. -
Let us know how it goes. I have found that a CPU undervolt + Nvidias whisper mode (or any other frame rate capping tool) keeps mine pretty quiet. Its Winter here at the moment, and my CPU sits at 65c tops (meaning the CPU fan stays at minimim speed), and my GPU sits at 55-58c. At 58c the GPU fan becomes audible, but it spins back down and stays quiet for a while. If you turn down some settings its pretty plausible you could make it a completely silent laptop. Or you could even undervolt the GPU too, which I havent even done yet.
The biggest source of noise was the 7200rpm HDD it shipped with. After I replaced it with another SSD, I was really happy with the silence.Donald@Paladin44 likes this. -
That's great because I don't have any hdds in it. I'm aware that the 8th gen CPUs might make it a little bit hotter. But I'm sure I love this thing as it ticks all the boxes

ALMOST ALL THE BOXES. just found out that not only did they add a dual power supply for the 8th gen, but they shorted us a usb port. WTF WERE THEY THINKING

Here is the review of G703GI with i9 CPU
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-...-GTX-1080-Full-HD-Laptop-Review.308366.0.html -
The 2x280W definitely doesn't make sense after reading that. It draws less power than the Kaby Lake model, but can't use the same 330W PSU? Other than that it looks good.
-
This model with liquid metal seems like it would be a front-runner in terms of performance. I have to find one in person to look at.

Spoke with Donald at HIDEvolution on Friday; can't wait to put an order in this week. These units seem to be heading out as soon as they come in. I think it's interesting how Asus designed the mobo to enable faster storage. 8 PCIe lanes for the GPU is still more than enough though.

I have a question.
Is it possible to change keyboard button places for a such a laptop?
If I buy the laptop from Germany, I would like to change Z and Ys places -

Order placed from HIDevolution, can't wait to get the unit in and get this thread started.

I am also quite interested in G703GS with 1070 GPU. There is not a single review on the internet and this option is quite limited. It is not sold in Germany or in Scandinavia. -
-
My G703GI has moved to Pre-Production status! I'm happy to benchmark a bit and provide pictures and initial impressions up until disassembling the unit. I'm also a bit foggy on tuning the CPU for solid performance in XTU/Throttlestop.
-
I have the unit! What would you guys like me to take a look at? Thank you @Donald@HIDevolution! The unit is in great condition! I ran multiple instances of Cinebench and was rocking 1525 as my lowest score (on the first run, as the fans had to spool up).

Congrats! What model did you get? i7/i9, 1070/1080? I'd also be curious as to whether you can use the notebook without the second AC adapter in. And what's the fan noise and temps like while gaming?

how did u permanently stop programs running in the background? i recently downloaded something. -

If it's a regular Windows Program, then download Autoruns
Extract it to a folder, then right click on Autoruns64.exe and choose Run as Administrator and look for the programs you want to disable from running on startup then uncheck the relevant program's box.Last edited: Jul 30, 2018 -

Dear,
I would need some help. I am buying this model at the moment, but cant decide what to do. There are 2 types in offer here in Slovenia:
1) ASUS G703GI i7 (It DOES COME with the bag ROG RANGER, mouse ROG and Headphones ROG) - price is aroun 3450€ (including extras)
2) ASUS G703GI i9 (It DOES NOT come out with bag ROG RANGER, mouse and headphones.. and this model is also sold out in Slovenia at the moment and the new package arrives within 3-4 weeks), price is aroung 3850€ (no extras)
I need this computer as workstation mostly, I do graphic design, animation and illustration and constantly use all kind of Adobe's. And I do a lot of multitasking (couple of programs at the same time).
I have no idea, whether I should buy i7 or i9. I have read couple of reviews and my knowledge is not that good so I could understand all of it. I want your advice, what model to choose. Is there really such a difference in this types of processors? I have heard i9 gets warmer and influence battery's life a lot. And it's still better to stick to i7. Dont know now. It's 400€ of difference, that's for sure. And with i7 you get all these fancy ROG stuff (bag, mouse, headphones) that also costs around 300€ all together.
Thank you for your kindness and help.

I don't know how much higher prices are in Slovenia than in the US, Canada, or the UK, but those prices sound very high.
A mouse is a mouse. A bag, mouse, and headphones shouldn't cost as much as a high-end cpu. -

For the types of things you will be doing it appears you will be looking more for RAM and CPU. The i7 is still a great processor. I have heard the i9 can get a bit warmer. But it is the newer and more powerful CPU.
Both systems would be fine for your needs, I think it just comes down to if you want/need the freebies, or if you want to shell out a bit more money for the newer processor. -

GI and GS users;
I see that there is a ''silence'' mod for fans at your ROG Gaming Center which I don't have at G703VI. I have only auto(balanced) and over-boost mods. The laptop has great temps and fan noise at load (almost), however, at idle my laptop is a bit loud. Fans work at a certain speed and never stops. How is the fan profile for you at silence mod? Does that cut the noise at all? Or without ROG Gaming Center and along with undervolting, how is the fan profile at idle, browsing, etc.
