Didn't notice any other threads about this model, so here's a first one.

    Got mine a week ago.
So far - so good. No issues yet.

Anyone else picked it up yet? :)

Does anyone know if the issues that plagued the G53SW have been solved with the G53SX? For example, the power button not working, the lid and screen separating a bit, the keyboard flex, the power pin issue, etc. If so, I'd probably take the less powerful graphics card in the G53SX just to have peace of mind.

Haven't overclocked it, neither have I done any benchmarks yet.
One day if I'm really bored I might just do some.

Don't have any 3D tech, as I have FHD screen. The 3D effect is only for the 1366x768 resolution.

No issues with the laptop. Power button works fine. Keyboard is solid. No idea what the power-pin issue could be - but for a month that I've had it, there have been zero problems.

560M GTX runs games better than my old laptop with 460M GTX, at least thus far. Maybe it's because of the drivers, I don't know.

I'm using a G51VX with a Core 2 Duo @ 2.53 ghz and a GTX 260m. I saw the G53SX on Newegg at a good price, but I wanted to know if an aftermarket blu ray drive upgrade is possible on it. Any possibility of finding this out?

Just click on details or specifications and look for differences in ram, hdd and/or optical drive, sometimes even the screen resolution. Those are the most prominent and easiest to tell apart.

hey guys, just got this laptop as well! I do casual gaming and a lot of internet surfing and work. So this fit the bill perfectly. Can someone fix a few of my concerns.

    1. I have an issue with the laptop being too bright at night, it doesn't quite get as dim as I'd like to as my wife's macbook and I end up wearing my sunglasses in the dark just to use this laptop. (seriously). Is there any way to dim it further?

    2. I purchased a 90 degree plug from Amazon for about 9$ and the connector is already faulty. Is there one that Asus manufactures? Also, can someone please explain WHY they didn't have the plug on the left hand side...

    3. Does un-installing the power4gear have any downfall in performance? Or can I refer to the battery options located in the bottom right hand corner?

    thanks!

Hi I was wondering on the g53sx have they improved the keyboard over the g53sw-a1? All the reviews I saw of the g53sw-a1 said the keyboard was cramped, unresponsive and the arrow keys were useless. Thanks!

Hi, I've got another question. Some of the g53sx's come with a matt screen. How do you guys like it compared to the regular glossy screen? Thanks!

Hey everyone, sorry for the stupid question but I just ordered this laptop today and was wondering what to do with the BIOS and gfx drivers when it arrives. As for the BIOS, should I flash it to the newest version as part of the setup process and if so which version. Secondly, I wanted to use Nvida's driver instead of the stock ASUS ones, should I uninstall Asus's driver first then install Nvida's or can I just install over it?

Well I've had mine for 3 weeks now. Totally in love.

    Re: Technoboy's question.
I LOVE the matte screen. My previous laptop was glossy and I hated it. The matte screen was one of this things I liked about this laptop.
    Screen is gorgeous.

Re: BIOS. If you get 203 (likely) I wouldn't bother updating to 205. 205 is a tiny minor update that fixes like one tiny thing. Can't even remember what it was. A language thing I think...

Also agree the screen is very bright. But when I turn is down at night I don't thnk it's TOO bright.

@7eregrine, thanks for the info on the matt screen. I know most reviewers hate the glossy screens but that's all I've ever had. Also, anybody heard any news of Asus coming out with a g54, like they did with the g74? Thanks!

No the G53 has already been refreshed, but received no new chassis like the G74. As of now there is no rumor of a new chassis. I think it will be next year, springtime, until we see another refresh.

Doesn't seem G53SX is as popular compare to G53SW. Still, any Q&A can be refered to G53SW.

Well its at least 4 month newer than the G53SW and with the gimped GTX 560M and the price drop of the SW there arent that many people who purchase this laptop.

Hi everyone, I'm not an owner of this laptop but am seriously considering it. Here's the thing, I just got a new desk (a hutch really) and I'm wondering what the height of this laptop is with the screen opened? The dimensions listed online only measure the closed laptop. Can one of ya'll take a measuring tape and measure from the tabletop surface to the peak of the open monitor? Greatly appreciated!
