Ah thanks, that answers that question .
For those who are wondering where I got the cheap RAM, I got it at this link - 8gb (2 x 4GB) G.Skill RAM (It was a one day deal unfortunately )
The laptop here -
ASUS G Series G53SW-XN1
The SSD here -
OCZ Solid 3 SLD3-25SAT3-120G 2.5" 120GB
I also recommend this backpack - Mobile Edge Black Backpack
It was all worth it
-
Does the bag easily fit the G53?
Man sold out though. Hope it comes back soon -
Can anyone tell me why at times my G53 randomly changes brightness when I'm playing a game? I thought it was Powergear thing, but it still does it after I took it off. Any ideas? .-.

-
Great, thanks! I will just wait for it to come back in stock then

If not, customize hybrid gear max performance mode to not disable backlighting or screen dimming after a certain amount of time.
It's a curious problem none the less, never had such thing. -
EDIT: Well that Nvidia re-install from before didn't help my FPS drop. It just happened again. This time the game froze for about 2-3 seconds, and I went from 50-60 FPS to 10-15 FPS. Why would it just drop like that mid-game? -
Hi, i just got my Asus G53sw-XN1 recently and i have been playin wow on it for quite some time. but recently while i am playing the game, lines would start to show up on the screen and images would start geting stretched, this would result in me getting kicked out of wow then having to reboot my laptop and havingto use the wow repair to get back into the game. have tried to download the new drivers for th laptop off of the nvidia website, but when i get to the part where nvidia searches for the video card, it says that it does not find anything compatible. where am i supposed to get the driver from? and is there a way to get back to factory settings on this laptop.
-
@Averbadplaya There's been a few cases of bad XN1s on newegg (read the last few reviews on there) with pixel issues. As to the video driver, download them from Asus's website or use a modified inf (just search this thread). I recommend getting the 267 drivers from the Asus site just to get you functioning first and once your pixel issues are cleared up you can tinker around with later versions of the driver.

Hi all!
I got my G53SW-XN1 today! But it has the power pin broken, so i'll rma it soon. ^^
But i thought the "SW" were not hit by this problem?
It's a lot larger than my previous G51. I wonder if it's going to fit in my bag... -
Have u tested read/write speeds yet? -
Hey guys got my g53sw xt1 a while ago at tiger direct.
How do you transport your G53? -
-
Just got my XA1 today, thanks to all the reviews!thats what made me get it. So far so good, cant really do the clean install, well i can but im in afghanistan so if anything goes wrong it would take forever so just leaving it alone for now until I get back home. had one question though, on mine it has a sticker for a "new revision certified design" was wondering if that was with the issues some people have or is that from the old intel to the new ones?
-
I have the same sticker on my XT1 but i dont know what it refers to either
-
can anyone confirm if we could put in 1866Mhz RAM onto this lappy?
-
Hi everyone, first post here. Great forum btw, everyone here seems very clued up. Ordered my G53sw-XA1 about 10 days ago and still waiting (everything takes a little longer here in Brazil). I have only one major concern, the pin in the power jack. I've been looking around for a angular connector but so far no joy. @ checca and Luca001 I found this, new revision certified design, I wish they also addressed the power jack issue with this revision...
-
Thanks for finding that revision article, the 90 degree connector I got was this one Amazon.com: Right Angle 90 Degree Converter for 5.5 x 2.5mm Connector - LC53: Electronics

Also has anyone noticed the throttling issue with Dragon Age 2? Going to try throttle stop today see what happens.

The g53sw's and 73 that comes with this sticker have a new motherboard with that chip bug fixed, so yes, its good to have that sticker. Mine has it as well. -

Hey all, about my wifi issues, if you having them too, this may help temporarily: I discovered that when I didn't use my bluetooth mouse that I didn't have drops from wifi. Been running 2 days solid now and not having dropped a connection, (my mouse is the razer oorochi, it is bluetooth and usb.) I have been using it as usb for the past 2 days. This morning I tried bluetooth out again and noticed my wifi bar immediately drop from all bars to about 3-4 out of 5 bars, then less than an hour later it dropped wifi connection. After plugging in the mouse to usb then restarting my laptop (as the wifi adapter won't respond to disable commands or anything), everything has been running great since. So this is a temporary fix for me, I had saved up for the Intel 6230, but then went online to order and saw they raised the price! Grr, it was about $30 shipped, now it's $49.99 plus shipping! So I guess it's time to save more money. Anyhow, just thought I'd share my discovery, I know it wastes part of the laptop not using bluetooth. I'm not happy with Asus on this, I bought a bluetooth mouse for the reason of having a wireless mouse without using a usb port and now I have to wire it (it's a gaming mouse so I won't let it go to waste.) Anyhow try my idea out if your using your bluetooth and having wifi issues. I didn't even turn the bluetooth radio off. Just by not using it, it seems to help. It may be interference, or maybe the Atheros card just can't take using both bluetooth and wifi, cheap card after all. But it works for wifi for me and i'd rather have wifi over both for short random moments. I will be buying an Intel 6230 for sure though.

appreciate it kingpin! I installed throttlestop and tried #2 setting and didnt make a damn bt of diffrence and where im at I cant DL some drivers like the INF one for some reason. tried the asus site for thier vid drivers but that wouldnt work either probably stuck for now, only game seems to have an issue is DA2. Fallout NV works like butter though.

-
Well I found out when I go to DX9 dragon age 2 works fine but in DX11 its choppy as hell. any suggestions?
-
untick some option (ambient light or something)
@dragonwolf: that makes sense, my wireless mouse and keyboard come with a separate dongle so I dont know if i could try the built in BT.
As for the 6230 card, I bought one on eBay for 23 bucks free shipping and it works flawless so yeah, you dont necessarily have to save up $50 for that.
@Taligunner: I sort of got the pair of RAM for free so I could choose the fastest one available. I dont know, maybe I will plug them in now and save for my future machine. Or I could upgrade the CPU to the one that would utilize the extra bandwidth -
I'm considering buying this laptop. I've been reading some of the reviews and I started to get worried about issues with the power button. Some of them state that the power button needs to be pressed several times to work and some say the laptop is perfect. Is the power button issue a common problem?
-
Seems to be the most popular issuebut it doesnt happen to mine
-
Fixed the DX11 issue had to DL the newest Nvidia driver with the INF from laptop2go, works perfect now on high settings with everything turned on.
-
Hi, great info on this forum!! I'm thinking the G53SW is the laptop to buy. A couple of quick questions. Does anyone have any experience using the G53SW with the Nvidia 3DVision usb kit going to HDMI input of an Acer H5360 projector for 3D iso movie playback? Am I correct that the headphone output jack doubles as a SPDIF out?
Thanks
Oh never mind...just read on another post that the headphone jack puts out stereo PCM, which I can send to my receiver for decoding....will try the 3D capabilities when I receive the unit. -
But how does everyone carry there laptops? Sleeve? Laptop Bag? Case? -
-
Does anyone know if they fixed the Nvidiea update yet? Sorry Im at work and nowhere near my G53, and what is the latest NVidia Driver? NOT THE BETA? thanks.
-
280.26, and by fixed you meant...?
-
-
download it from nvidia and then try the modified inf which you can find easily on laptopvideo2go
-

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Hey jinm, welcome aboard! You'll be happy enough of the machine, keep us posted!
-
thanks, Kingpinzero! I was going through some major decision-making.. I was originally going to get N53SV-XV1, 969.99 (NOW...price dropped) on Amazon but the G53SW-XN1 was only $20 more on Newegg (PLUS NO TAX FOR NEWEGG! YAAAYYY)
Now I'm not a big gamer, and mostly going to use my G53SW-XN1 for music production. But why not get much better laptop for only $20 more, and actually have the option to play games? Overall, i'm SUPER STOKED...cannot wait til next week........ :'O -
you seem very excited, and you will not be disappointed

I just purchased a G53SW and it came 2 days ago. I'm having problems with the display driver constantly crashing on me. I have tried using stock and the most update nvidia driver (280.26). Sometimes it crashes when I'm switching between modes (battery, performance, office, entertainment). Sometimes just during regular surfing with Chrome. I already fresh installed a copy of Windows and all the drivers. I saw there is a thread for people who have problems with 400/500 cards due to Fermi but I don't know what extent it applies to the mobile series.
Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks! -
did you overclock the card, if so try to put it back in stock clock and push slowly from there. Or it could also be just your GPU happen to be defective, in that case I'd advice you to RMA the unit for a replacement.
This is just my humble opinion based on what I know, lets see if other would give you better idea. -
Anyone had any trouble with the power cord? Over the last couple of weeks if i have nudged the power cord the computer would go from being in a charging state to battery mode and then back to charging if i nudged it again. Now when the cord is plugged in the metal tip gets really hot and starts to smell. Don't know what's going on.
-
If it starts to smell i guess it's burning the plastic case around the power plug of your laptop, some guys had this problem.*
I suggest you rma it, i guess you have the old version of the defective power pin. -
Thanks for your help! -
-
it just struck me that the new G53SX also have the same chassis and mostly the same hardware as the G53SW, it should be possible to put the GPU on the G53SX into an SW right?

I got my Asus G53SW back from the 3rd RMA and Asus sent me a new one. However the laptop will not boot up when I connect the HDMI cable. The laptop works completely fine without the HDMI cable connected. I disconnect the dvd burner and HD and it will do the same. Anyone has the same issue?
