Please put the videos on youtube I cant download them
and for the mobility issue. I think this notebook is mainly for a desk replace but sometimes it comes handy when you can move it into the school or a trip etc. So i i think 15.4 is the perfect size for this notebbok.
If you care about the size go to a bestbuy and check it. ITs not so big nor heavy. Qosmio f55 is much bigger and ooooh very very ugly. Like a plastic toy from the 80s

Thanks Vicious!
Just out of curiosity, what's it like without your Zalman cooler? Is it a lot hotter? -
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
However the zalmans is not a very high end cooler when it comes to cooling performance its just a very very small airflow so I would assume temps to be only 2c or so hotter without it.
That big vent opening on the bottom probably makes this laptop work well with a cooler tho. -
BTW, N.wE.g already have it $1699
-
For those wanting the Intel wifi link 5300 card Dell has them for $79.99 :

It looks like you can swap the wireless cards pretty simple.
Go here for the technical pdf's on the 5100/5300 series wifi cards: http://support.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/supportnav_5000series.htm
Let us know if anyone tries this mod.
Thanks -

Hi all,
I picked up this laptop for college at best buy on monday and I am extremely pleased with it. It's maxing out all my games (CoD4, Company of Heroes).
I was wondering, is it risky to run in the super-turbo overclock mode?
Also, for the people who were wondering about the size, I think it is a great size, not too big, and it weighs around 6lbs (I think ) -
"I was wondering, is it risky to run in the super-turbo overclock mode?"
Absolutely not, if it was risky, Asus would not put it there. -
-
yes, pretty much.

Ok, got some questions now that we got more info;
1. I guess there isnt a modem port anymore? I use cable internet, but that backup port would be nice to have. You just never know.
2. I was kind of hopping for more battery life than just 2 hours personally. I wanted the 9700M GT cause it is both powerful and not a power sucking 9800Mxx, guess I was wrong. Does anyone know the wattage usage this card uses? Ive heard 45 watts but that sounded a bit too high. I could always look into a better battery for it; some others are saying a 9 cell is available?
3. Im also somewhat disappointed at the Crysis perforce. I knew it could play COD4 maxed out just fine, but I was hopping for steady high settings (Not very high) of 25 fps, not 15 to 11. I know the Crysis engine sucks when it comes to streamline and optimized coding. Perhaps future updates will fix this?
4. Is it also possible to upgrade the Intel wifi card to the 5300? The 5100 is really lame compared to the 5300 and even older cards. First laptop so I have no clue on this kind of stuff.
Plus could we have some of the owners of this laptop tell a bit about the Turbo modes? How much faster does the CPU go, etc. The picture explaining this on excaliberpc is to blurry to make out. -
on 1 - who need the modem anymore?
about point 2 - it is 45watt
what's funny though 8800gts is 35watt -
-
The 8800M GTX is even supposed 35 watts to. This is very strange since a card that is way more powerful uses less power to run. Perhaps I should "upgrade" to the next gen. Nvidia GPUs lol

"Is it also possible to upgrade the Intel wifi card to the 5300? The 5100 is really lame compared to the 5300 and even older cards."
What the fuss about 5100 being so lame compared to 5300 and older.
Just want to know what the difference are?
Is it something important or just some geeky extra detail? -
Hi everybody, i'm new here! I'm from france and i would like to have some informations about the ASUS G50V-AK029K (it isn't the same as here)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2,4 GHz, 2 Mo L2 cache , 25W
Chipset: Mobile Intel Cantiga + ICH9M
Ram: 4096 Mo DDR2 800 Mhz - 2xSO-DIMM/ Max 4 Go
Screen: 15,4" WSXGA+ (1680x1050) Color Shine
GC: NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GT 512 Mo dédié GDDR3
Disk: 320 Go / 2.5" SATA ( 5400T/M)
then DVD and other stuff
My questions are:
1) Do every Asus G50 have the Express Gate system install?
2) Does the laptop look hot? Or kind of cold?
3) How about the battery life? I read 2hours, it will be a bit more with a P8400 and 1 hard disk no? Maybe 30minutes more?
4) And, this is not really a question or no it is a question^^ Can we find The Direct Controle 2.0 in all the G50 model ? I mean i'm pretty sure for the Led light and OLED pannel but for the Perfomance pannel, will it be integrated in the ASUS G50V- AK029K?
Then last, i would like to know if Asus will put his system called fingerglide on others models than the Eeepc?
Thanks for your answers and good review
( Sorry for my bad english ) -
2. It definitely 'looks' hot , but it doesn't feel hot at all except near the vent on the left.
3. It'll probably be more than 2 hours... my best guess would be somewhere between 2hr 15min to 2hr 30min
4.Yes, the Direct Console 2.0 is on all G50 notebooks. -
Also the GPU BIOS are embed in the MB BIOS, unlike C90S and desktop systems the GPU BIOS are on video card itself. -
Thank you once again for the quick reply Ken!
-
Right to the right of the trackpad is warm, most likely from the HD activity. vent on the left is pretty hot!
-
It is already a very nice laptop, it will be perfect for me with a Multitouch option! I hope it will be integrate after by software -

Did anyone get the 9 cell battery? How far does it stickout on the back?
How much more battery time do you get? Worth the $155 more? -

does anyone have link for the g50v manual
-
This is the only link I hae found on ASUS, but it doesn't list the manual, just drivers

Oh i have one more question!
Could we switch between 9700GT and integrate CG (if it has)? -
Thanks for this review, it was added to the Info Booth.

Couple of things from a G1S-B2 user thinking about upgrading:
1. I noticed an S-video cable in package. Where is the S-video Output port?
2. Anyone tested the Parallax 3D Screen? Sound great, but does it work as good as it sounds?
3. Is is still possible to "underclock" the cpu via power4gear (for silent operation?)
4. With 2 hard drives in Non raid mode, does the laptop (if configured correctly) idles the hard drives independently?
5. Does XP recognizes all 4GB of ram? (or XP-64?)
6. Has anyone installed Hackingtosh (OSX86) on it?
Thx in advance, sorry for the questionnaire -
1. Svideo now comes with all ASUS notebooks regardless of whether they have Svideo or not. I'd guess G50 has HDMI and no Svideo.
2. IDK
3. I don't see why it shouldn't be possible. So yes.
4. IDK
5. 32bits limitations are still there, as in any 32bit operating system. The 4GB of RAM should be recognized at the hardware level with no problem, as with all new notebooks. Since the notebook comes with 64-bit Vista however, you shouldn't worry about this (at least if you keep the Vista 64 OS).
6. Discussing MacOS on non-Apple hardware is forbidden on this forum. -
Thanks again ken. Nice review!
Do you know if the HDMI out carries multi chanel audio and not just the 2 channels? (5.1 dolby/7.1 dolby)
Also, can you give me one for free? (just askin) -
3: yes but you don't have to, it automatically lower the clock speed by itself when it's idle.
4: Yes
5: No, only 64bit OS will recognize all 4GB.
Re: can you give me one for free?
LOL, I asked Asus the same question. -
I am thinking about buying this Laptop. It will be used for some games and mostly business.
I am wondering if I should order it with the 32bit vista instead of the 64. This computer will be the only one with 64bit vista on the network.
What pit falls should I be concerned with?
Most of my software will need to be run in 32bit mode, does 32bit mode still take advantage of the 4gb or ram?
Any other pros/cons to 64 vs 32 is welcome.
Thanks -
GenTechPc do you have any idea when the A2's will start shipping out?
-
Vista 64 can run 32 bit programs, but cannot utilize 32 bit drivers. This has led to some programs not working on Vista 64. I'd recommend seeing if the programs you plan to use will be compatible with Vista 64. -
Hi GenTechPc I really like this Laptop, It has all the features I need like the esata port. My question is fairly simple is there a possibility to have this laptop fitted with 8 GB of RAM. This will boost up performance by a whole lot. I'm looking forward to buy this beauty.
Thanks in advance for the reply.

Thanks for the reply,
Here is one response from a software company that I will be useing,
" Crestron Software currently does not support the 64 bit version of Vista. You should be able to install the programs on a 64 bit machine and then run them in 32 bit mode by right mouse selecting the desktop Icon and selecting "run as 32 bit App.."
That is what I mean about 32 bit mode.
All of my drivers are updateable to 64 bit, so no worries there. I'm concerned about how it will react to other systems on a network. For example, at my shop, the printers are connected to a 32bit vista version and are shared. Will I still be able to connect to the printer and print?
Will MS Office 2007 run on it, or will I need to buy the 64 bit version? -
Well, if you really want some answers, I suggest going to the Windows board and posting your question there. There are people dedicated to 64 bit OS's who will easily answer your questions.
-
I will leave a final answer to Ken, of course but:
Firstly I don't know whether the chipset & BIOS supports 8GB.
Secondly I don't know if they make 4GB SODIMMs?
Finally, very, very few home&office&business users need such an amount of RAM in 2008. Why do you need it? If you do not have very special memory-intensive software that you use, it would not boost performance a whole lot. In fact it would be almost unnoticeable.
