The G50 is the official successor of the G1. You should look into buying one of those.

    Thanks Tocharius.

Honestly, I think G50 looks much worse than G1SN. It's also much more expensive. I don't really understand the point of replacing such a great laptop with excellent specs! Besides, G1SN is still displayed on their website!

I think this is the case when a company has a great capacity to build great stuff, but doesn't have a proper marketing/management.

Asus laptops suck! I mean, the company sucks.
Almost all their laptops are out of stock! The laptop models are all messed up, no information what is what. Their websites are very slow and sometimes not accessible at all. No decent information about laptops there.
I think at the moment they can manage only because of their brand name.

mcurran, did you end up finding anything to control the fan of the g1sn ?
would be mighty useful as my GPU is around 20 degrees hotter than the cpu.

ive never had as much fun with any other laptop than i have with my G1S. I bought it the 2007-07-17. Which today is 2 years ago! I have the original 8600 GTm 256 DDR 3 card that runs so hot it could melt the polar ice on it's own!

When i bought it i scored around 3,9 K in 3dmark06, today with OC i can force 5 K out of it!
(4948) 1280*1024 with all settings on default in 3dmark06.
(6149) 1024*768 with all settings on default in 3dmark06.

That is from 3907 to 4948 with a simple OC! thats 26 % improved performance! There is not many laptops that overclocks 26%!

Today with my extra cooling added i think i could pull even more out of that rugged old half melted piece of plastic xD
Il post a photo later on, but in short, i've mounted a new cooler directly on to the GPU. Which at MAX load Cod4 gaming brings me to 86c. The heat sink i used was salvaged from an old 6600gt card (my previous laptop) and was easy to mount. I wish i could test the cooling and a new OC, but im running win 7 RC and RivaTuner does not seem to recognize the display drivers..

Still i play Cod 4 at 1280*720 without any lag at ANY time!
i play WoW at 1280*720 with high settings!
i played Age of Conan with ease (lower settings, but still!).

When the G1S was released it beat the crap out of 95% of all notebooks and probably 80% of all desktops!

the ONLY con with it is the immense heat, which normal people doesn't know how to handle. But wait, there's a solution! If you burn your 8600 gt, you get an upgrade from ASUS for free! new main board and a brand new 9500 card! ? ! asus sucks?

Seriously mate, Asus is known as one of the best brands within any computer section! - go have your cookie now..

Oh wow! that sounds great! I'd like to try that on my G1S. Had this for 2 years now and I have never tried OCing it. Any tips that can help me OC this monster?

    Thanks!
