G1Sn-B1
G1Sn is the refresh of current G1S with few changes:
-Penryn Processor
-GeForce 9500M GS 512MB DDR2
-Blue-Ray Disk Drive for B1
Everything else is exactly the same as the G1S. The B1 version pretty much max out of everything with Penryn T9300, 4GB of RAM, 320GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive and Blue-Ray Disk Drive/DVDRW.
Like all other new Asus models there is no Turbo Memory installed unlike the G1S-B1 and G1S-B2.

Nice review Ken
Isnt the G1s superior though? Why did they change to the 9500 GS? -
9500M GS is their next generation GPU, it's pretty much the same card as 8600M GT except the 9500M is a die shrink version and exclusive to Asus, wish they put a GDDR3 Video RAM but the 9500M GS is still slightly better than 8600M GT. -
Excellent review as always Ken.
-
Ken, Why dont you get these reviews futured on the front page? Many people would wnat to see them...
-
-
The 8600GT DDR3 is better. And the CPU isn't much better either, which means that this isn't really an "upgrade". It's a refresh with newer hardware but no increase in performance.
Actually, there's a decrease in 3D performance. -
The Penryn processor is not much different from Merom but the Penryn T9300 has 6MB cache, not really a new processor but it's just a Santa Rosa refresh. -
Ken, you are really on the ball nowadays...what happened to give you so much free time? Are you married? Things ok at home?
-
-
Regarding the reviews on main page, they're for end users, people who've used the notebook for their purpose of buying it in the first place.
However, dealer reviews are much appreciated and give off a 'first hand look' at new toys. Of course, thanks again for the preview -
Excellent review, what I have been looking for..
can you tell us the quality of the speakers on this beast?? -

Hi Ken, can you tell me anything about the heat this laptop expels? I have heard quite a bit about the G1s heating issues, does this laptop resolve that in any way? I've been very hesitant in getting one because of the heat issues.
Also, how is the screen visual quality (not blu-ray, just overall)? And when do you think we will see a 9600m GT DDR3? -
ken u dont think that ASUS will kill G1sn coz they didnt put GDDR3 memory ??
i'd prefer to buy F8SN-B1 its smaller plus ill save 400$
EDIT: G1S have 1GB more memory + 70GB more for storage plus GAMER look -
the upper right hand side feel little warm, not hot:
The screen quality is the same as G1S, the color is cold and the M50SV has warm color:
Right now we won't see any Asus 15" notebooks with 9600M GT GDDR3, hopefully sometimes in the future soon, even their new G2Sg uses 8700M GT with GDDR3 not the 9XXX series.
-
Thanks Ken! Yeah, I really want DDR3 memory, I hope they release it soon. By the way, does the notebook feel flimsy? I've heard everyone saying that this particular notebook has terrible build quality. I hope it has good longetivity at least...I'd need it to run with no problems for a few years.

I have the G1S and since its basically the same as the G1Sn, i'll tell you about the heat issue. When gaming, the CPU temp can get up to or over 90degrees. It feels extremely warm, maybe a bit uncomfortable as well. Their is a solution to this, and its on the G1S resource thread. It involves using RMclock and lowering the amount of unneeded electricity supplied to the laptop. I was able to tweak it and now, it never goes above 70. IN this case, I don't even feel it on the keyboard and I lost no performance whatsoever
-
Thanks for the review Ken.
I am a owner of the previous version of the G series, the G1s.
I hope this is not too troublesome, but can you post some temperatures of the GPU while idling and in game. I would love to see if high GPU temperatures are caused by the lack of cooling or does the 8600m GT run especially hotter.
Thank you. -
Any one that knows how the noise level is for G1SN (and G1S)? I am especially interested in having a computer that is rather quiet when doing nothing, or just simple web-browsing. If it is noisy while gaming, it doesn't bother me too much.
-
-
I am interested in buying G1Sn, but I have some doubts. Have you tried its performance in any games (and if yes, how it works compared to g1s-b2 (T7700, 8600m GT)? And, my most important question, the main reason for me to buy it is its Blu-Ray drive and I'd like to know your opinion about it in G1Sn.
-
The gaming performance is exactly the same as M50SV-A1:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=229282
I'll see if I can post some game video on G1Sn-B1 tomorrow (just drink some NyQuil earlier). -
If it is the same, why are the 3dMark06 results so different (G1Sn has 4055 pts in 1280x720 and M50SV-A1 only 3580)?
And what about the Blu-Ray drive? -
One question. Who works in the products ideas in Asus? Homer Simpson or Peter Griffin?
The M50Sv looks more like a gamer computer than the G1Sn specially in the features thing not the components (processor, screen, etc). M50Sv has a strange multimedia mouse and Altec speakers vs the G1Sn color lights and chasis.
Asus is insane. -
Would there be a way to put a bluray drive into a G1S?
-
So.... why didn't they put GDDR3 already? I mean, its predecessor is better
-
Here are some more temperatures of G1Sn, 79*C max overclocked at 517/1233/470:
89*C max overclocked at 517/1233/470 while playing Crysis:
-
And comparing G1S-B2 and G1Sn-B1 which one do you think is better (mainly for gaming but also other purposes, e.g. in the office)? Which one performes better in games? I still cannot decide whether to buy G1S-B2 or G1Sn-B1 (or wait a month or two for sth new to come).
-
Here are some G1Sn-B1 game video:

Video 4: 1600x1024 all settings high except shaders and shadows at medium
-
And I repeat my question - what do you think, is G1S-b2 better for gaming than this one?
thanks -
-
Thx, added to sticky.
-
Couldn't help but noticing that no one has asked yet, so any idea what's the performance difference between 9500M GS and 9500M GT (with this exact same configuration otherwise)?
-
-
actually i kinda sad when asus did not put at least a 9600gt in g1sn.. i thought of buying 1 if they do so...
-
Just got my G1SN last night after waiting 6 weeks for it to come in. Im just wondering how much light bleed i should be getting from the bottom of the screen though? My previous Acer lappy had no light bleed, however light bleed on the G1SN on a black screen is noticeable. So im not sure if the light bleed i have is acceptable or not. Just thought id ask instead of taking it back and making a fool of myself. Thanks!
-
I noticed that the memory rating of G1sn is only 4.5 in my WEI. My other Compaq laptop with AMD and geforce 7000/610n scored 5.2 in memory. Is it true that AMD has faster memory speed than Intel?
-
It's available in Scandinavian countries at least under model G1SN-AK023C -
-
That would be really strange imo, as if you Google for "G1SN-AK023C", every single retailer found says its 9500M GT.
-
It is, I think, quite possible the spec is different for those countries.
-
But I don't think 9500M GT even exist, Asus never tell me about it, I only know there will be something better than that.
Just look at the driver inf from laptopvideo2go.com, it has everything but 9500M GT, where is the drivers?
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=17737
And if you google it, it comes out diffrent results:
G1SN-AK023C, GPU 8600M GT (the product name is correct but look at the detail specs, it says 8600M GT 256MB DDR3), shouldn't the 8600M GT is for G1S not G1Sn?
http://www.datagrottan.se/PartDetail.aspx?q=p:1890646;c:36159
G1SN-AK023C, GPU 9500M GS
http://www.edbpriser.dk/Products/listprices.asp?ID=435658
G1Sn-AK023C, GPU 9500M GT
http://www.databyran.nu/default.asp?katId=23&katUnderId=24&detProdId=15939
So far we have G1Sn-AK023C with 3 different GPUs. , and don't forget just not too long ago some company put 8600M GT 512MB on V2S specs when it suppose to be 8600M GS 256MB and it's a global spec. -
It's a 9500 GS 512 MB in G1Sn-AK023C .
-
For those that have the G1Sn-B1, is the HDMI port on the back strictly for Video? I assume its just a replacement for the DVI port which was also only video, but I can't find it documented anywhere. It'd be awesome if the audio would be passed through the HDMI but i'm not that optomistic.
Let me know,
Brian / ChevyNovaLN -
The reason I'm asking is their manual states what HDMI is for, digital video and audio and doesn't say it CAN'T do audio.

But with all Asus notebooks with HDMI I've test all has the same option even with C90S.
