Yeah. I have definitely installed SP1, and it fixed nothing. Looks likeliest to be simply a hardware defect. It's brand new, so it's going right back to the dealer.

Thanks for your help in this thread, guys.

    Hi Everyone,

A couple of months ago I began looking for a notebook to replace my Acer 3003 WLMi. I wanted something that was fast enough to play Neverwinter Nights 2 well and still be very portable. It also had to have a full size keyboard because I hate compact ones. I didn't mind 15" form factors but If I could get what I wanted in a 14" I would be much happier. The F8sn-c1 is the fastest 14.1 inch notebook I have come across. I won't repeat all the specifications of this notebook since it already has been covered very well. I must say that whatever has been said is a very accurate assessment of it.

The 1400x900 screen is beautiful to look at. Mine was almost perfect; one dark pixel lower right of the center. Too bad it wasn't a bright one since Asus throws in a no bright pixel warranty. Everyone who knew I was picking up one of these couldn't wait to check it out. They were all equally impressed with the amount of power stuffed under the keyboard. I was at a Dell kiosk at a local mall and the guy said no 14.1" notebook on the market exists with a 2.5 Ghz Duo core and a Gforce 9500m gs for graphics. "NOT!". The keyboard btw, feels very good and I took to it very quickly since it is similar to my previous notebook. The keys are fairly quiet when typing but I have noticed that it flexes a bit more on the left half than the right. Unless you have very heavy fingers, you would not notice it much.

My only complaint has to do with the left and right buttons on the touch pad. The sound coming from the pad buttons is fairly loud and sounds like the pop up buttons on the lids of jam jars. Yuck. When you press those buttons, people around you will hear it. Speaking of hearing, the built in speakers are what you would expect for its size and position. Small and awkwardly placed in the overhang at the front and pointing somewhat downwards. Stick with a good set of earphones or carry a set of portable speakers for times when you need to present to a room of people. I got a set of Logitech V 20 usb speakers for those occasions.

Heat was a major concern for me but fortunately the cooling system is well suited to the hardware and it never gets uncomfortable. The trade off is that the fan is almost always on and in a quiet room you will hear it. It is not annoyingly loud so in time it sort of "disappears" into the background. If a near silent notebook is your priority, then get something with a slower cpu and onboard graphics. With the wifi off and the power scheme set on maximum battery savings, I can confirm the 2.5 hours of usable time If I am just taking notes at a lecture using Word 2007. I wonder if Asus had in mind to place the air vents under the notebook mostly down the centerline so that your legs won't block the airflow when you are using it on your lap. Many notebooks have vents in places that would be covered if you tried to use it on your lap.

Fit and finish is very good. The usb ports are tight. You won't have to worry about a usb drive jiggling loose at all. Other random thoughts: My bro-in-law who does wedding photo shoots and video would have liked to see a HDMI port. If you have to have that, then get one built into an express card and stick it in. The 320 Gig HD made his eyes go "boing!" That is big.

I have one question; does anyone know if an express card multimedia remote can be used with this notebook? I see it on some 15.4" Asus models and would love to get one for my F8 if possible.

There you have it. I hope you have found this helpful.

    Nice review SirBruisedalott!
I believe a multimedia remote should work for the F8Sn since it has an infrared receiver. Not 100% sure, so maybe others can share their experiences regarding the remote :)

check what resolution you are running 3dmark06 at. 3dmark06 scores can vary greatly with different resolutions.

Assuming you used the default 1280x800 your score is only 15 different than gentechPC's score (he scored a 3985 at this resolution). This is as expected.

I also wanted to know if the overclock setting from this review were stable and could be use for games?

May I have a little more info about overclocking 9500m GS on F8sn-C1?

I tried to overclock using RivaTuner on 9500M GS for F8Sn-C1 but was resetted always after clicking okay.
    Any idea why this happen?

Were you trying a large jump in the clocks? If so maybe the card didn't take it.

Otherwise it may be a bug or an incompatibility. Riva Tuner doesn't always support well the latest cards.
