I just recently placed an order for a dh51 and it's on its way. I've been reading a few reviews that mention some crippling technical problems although there always seem to be more positive reviews than negative. One of the problems that gets mentioned somewhat often is dead battery after a few months (or in one case at newegg, weeks). There are also complaints about the HDMI and VGA output not being secure enough. Has anyone here owned this laptop for a while (A year maybe) and had any problems? I'd really like to what a relatively long time owner thinks of this product.

I have a UX31A with Windows 7 and have not yet restored to stock Windows 7 to get rid of bloatware (process seems complicated due to GPT partitions) but have a questoin on bloatware removal and wireless card software.

Is there a way to get the default Windows 7 wireless driver software on here for whichever chip is in the laptop and delete all the Asus ones because the Asus pre-loaded ones are causing constant connection problems while no other device in the household is having those problems.

Also, I've removed some but which of these is safe to remove? I don't really wanna lose any keyboard/hotkey functionality but don't care too much asides from that:

    Asus Pwr Option
    ATK Package
WinFlash (this is for Bios update I think but I'm already on Bios219)
    Asus InstantConnect
    InstantON for NB
    Asus Tutor
    Asus Smart Gesture
    Wireless Console 3
    Asus Splendid Video Enhancement

Right click the device in device manager and select uni stall and delete drivers.

    Hi gents!

My UX31A has a strange, strange fetish. If I leave it alone, running AND it is plugged in, it hangs and restarts itself. If I am working with it, no problem, it runs great for 12 hours or more. If I unplug the charger, not problem, I can leave it running forever without hanging.

It's not the charger, I have two (home and office) and it hangs with both. It runs Windows 7.

Any suggestions, where to start looking for the problem? It it hardware? Is it software? Earthing maybe? But with both genuine chargers?

    Thank you so much!

tl;dr: If it's plugged in and left alone (plays music) it hangs. If it's not plugged it, fine. If it's not left alone (typing, browsing) it's of even if it's plugged in.

There may be a weird EMI issue, have you tried leaving it plugged in in a different property?

Yes, home and office, and I've experienced this in our previous office, so I rule out all the environmental factors.

Try resetting the system to factory defaults and see if the issue goes away or not because it could be a software-related issue.
If not, then it's definitely a HW issue.

Look at sleep settings, disable any timed power action.

    Hey there!

Proud owner here, great machine. Quick question for any of you with experience on this. I use an external screen and I would like to split this into two screens. Is this possible with this computer? What do I need?
    Many thanks,
    HH.

My UX31A ultra book display is blank after poweron. I can see the backlight is ON but no images appear. The external display through the HDMI output and mini display works fine.

I took it to a local asus authorised service center in India and they said they cannot repair it here in India. This model is not sold in India. I bought it from USA.

Can anyone tell what could be the problem?

    TIA

hello every one, there is finally a solution for the SSD issue for all persons having a defective SSD or just want to upgrade to a bigger/better SSD, i have found an adaptor to put an M.2 SSD on the UX31A/E zenbook !!!
Iit is the best thing i was waiting for this machine, here is the link http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free...XM11-128G-256G-for-UX31-UX21/32257612929.html
the seller have tested the installation and the bottom case close without any problem after installation :D , i'll order 2 of them for my zenbooks.
BE CARFULL : not all m.2 SSD are compatible.

Yes you will need the SATA version of M.2 cards like the M550.
