Got it two days ago, so far ive just used it for 10 minutes to see how it looks and functions.
Initial Review:
Looks:
It looks great, the deep blue with the gold is a nice combination, its quite normal weight for a 15 laptop i feel. But the build of it is great. It is a fingerprint magnet though, within a minute the back has major smudges. The back has a nice aluminium finish with faint circular stripes visible, i dont like that the back is a bit loose, ie that you can push the back in a bit, id rather it was fully solid back rather than a hardback. Inside it looks great, again nice aluminiumish finish, there isnt many smudges inside though. Just wish that back was a solid one and the curves were perhaps a little less.
Overall id give the looks a
9.0 / 10
Screen:
The UHD Screen is amazing to look at. Colors are vibrant and full. The different screen modes helps choosing the type of work you want to do. The Touchscreen itself although visually pleasing, the texture feel of the screen itself is a bit plasticy. It functions OK as a touchscreen. Although i haven't really explore the possibilities of a laptop touch screen. Ive only had 17.3 inch laptops for the last 10+ years. SO going to a 15.6 is a bit new. But overall the screen is beautiful. The colors are fantastic.
Overall id give the screen a
10.0 / 10
Sound:
The speakers are fantastic. Although some expressed concern about downward facing speakers, they are still quite loud and clear. Great sound with the harmon/kardon build. Music sounded fantastic. Really loud speakers when on max. Bass level felt quite good as well. Fills out the room quite easily. For a laptop the speakers are really well made.
Overall id give the sound a
9.5 / 10
Keyboard:
The keyboard is a bit of a letdown. I would prefer a better tactile response. The keys look nice and are nice and large, perhaps a bit too large. just a bit. The tactile response is very soft. the key placement is ok, id prefer some differences but do understand the limitations of it being a laptop and a 15 inch.
Overall id give the keyboard a
5.0 / 10
TrackpadScreen:
The trackpad screen is the new innovation of laptop design. Although its just introduced i can really see the functionality and benefit of having a secondary screen for secondary inputs. I dont know about using it as a secondary viewing screen, but as a quick secondary input field with a GUI built for applications and such, i can see some great possibilities there. I think other laptop makers will eventually follow this way. I liked having a dropdown menu with access to music, calculator, numpad and such. Textile wise, the touchpad is pretty much the same as normal touchpads. Its a clickable touchpad. SO it functions pretty much same as a normal touchpad. You can also just use f6 to turn off the touchpad screen and use it as a normal touchpad without distracting images/light, or you can keep it going with the screen on and use it as a touchpad at the same time. Either way Asus is really the only one who has created something new in terms of innovation for the laptop in the last 10 years i think. We will just have to wait and see how app and game devs will utilize it in the future.
Overall id give the TouchpadScreen a
7.5 / 10

I wanted to test the CPU/GPU and heat with a clean windows without the extra ads and bloatware so installed a new windows into it but then i found out that asus has not released the drivers and utilities for the laptop, and their support says they wont release em until next month at the latest.
The laptop does not come with a disk for drivers and utilities. So the asus touchpadscreen does not work, the touchpad itself seems to not work. I had lots of issues trying to install windows on it, the bios although being modern really didnt want to find a bootable usb.
Im hoping someone here may have better luck in finding the drivers than i did, because Asus currently only have a bios file in their support page for the UX580GE and UX580GD

hey
i have a question - re this latop - as i bought one few days ago
i noticed in the display section - that is saying it has an HDR display - and the HDR settings section is there (Wasnt on my previous laptop also a 4k ASUS but older model)
I didnt noticed anywhere saying this has an HDR screen - but then why would windows see it as an HDR display?
im trying to find an HDR clip somewhere but cant find anything - youtube is not HDR on desktop, neither is Amazon or Netflix -
Also - yes its a very noisy laptop and gets hot easy (i have the i9 processor - so was expecting less heat)
screen is great tho and i was surprisingly impressed by the audio - it plays sorround stereo on most online clips - on my old laptop the sound was on the top side - near keyboards - on this one is under the latop - i really liked the sound effects
not really sure about the trackpad-screen - pretty useless IMO - doesnt do much and even then its limited
all in all - i think £2,3K is a LOT for this - hope is durable as this might be my last ever latop (since i hold on them 4-5 years) and laptops are slowly dying -
The screen is not HDR.
Mine was noisy but the replacement one is not anymore.
You were expecting less heat with an i9 paired with a GTX 1050? -
also there was an update to the screenpad app today (2.0.10.0) and now the screenpad completely stopped working - when i click on F6 all i get is touchpad enabled/disabled and screepad ONLY disabled
i mean when you pay £2,200 on a laptop - you really expect more than just a half-baked laptop with gimmicks that dont even work???
i thought the display is not HDR but i was confused as why windows see it as suchAttached Files:

So, the UX580GE is sold out on the US ASUS store site. I can't find another location that sells it in the US. Any other leads on where to buy?
Also, is there only 1 M.2 slot?Last edited: Sep 3, 2018 -
Can any owner try this on his/her UX580?
1. put Windows task bar in auto-hide in desktop mode
2. put Screenpad in extension display mode
Do you see any issue? Mine show flickering at the bottom the screen. -
Has any one had a problem with the Micro-SD Reader, mine errors on reboot. I have tried the SanDisk Ultra 64gb, and the SanDisk Ultra 256gb. both do the same thing.

so on mine - the fingerprint reader stopped working
just like that out of the blue - it stopped reading my fingerprint one day
tried all the usual stuff - uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, going into BIOS - checking settings etc (all based on their CS advise)
In the end nothing worked - they said to send it into service - but i am not keen on the idea - as i use it daily and have all my work life on it
last time i sent one in service it came back 1month later - worse than it left
its just really annoying that you would pay £2,500 on it - and 4months later it start to malfunction
i didnt drop it or anything as i take really good care - but Jeez - do the make them out of paper
i found this iteration to be the worst of all other past generations - very buggy, software-wise always something off, and screen wise - often when waked up from standby/sleep - i doesnt change the brightness to what i have setup (50%) but stays at 25% - so i need to reboot it to get it back
All in all - had i know all this would have given it a big PASS - and keep the older one - which was great -
Hello all, I'm wondering if any of you have issues with running 1080p games while the desktop is 4K? I have the UX550GE (basically the 580 without the second screen and just i7) and it has this issue, but whenever I change my desktop to 1080p everything runs very smoothly.

hi guys, I have had my UX580G from the Microsoft Store for 2 days, and I am in love with the screen. it is a beautiful panel, and if oyu ask me, more pleasant than the XPS 15's.
the computer obviously run hot, and I have a naïve question, where are the air intake grills in this laptop? since the UX550VE I noticed the bottom panel is completely sealed, and in the VE I thought well maybe the upside firing "speakers grills" are in fact ventilation grills, but in the UX580GE, they removed those upward grills, so now I don't really now how cool air gets to the fans.
the design diagram in the asus website shows cool air coming from the sides toward the fan, but I think they plagiarized that diagram from the MacBook Pro material. -
The only place of ventilation is at the back around the hinge. I have the UX550GE and the heat isn't that bad even under heavy use, the N550JK was far worse and its fans ran louder, but it had far less coil whine in the place of hard drive sounds.

Hi. I have got ux580gd i7 and cpu get hot. In bios 96°c after boot. Could someone check if it is normal. To get to bios press f2 or fn+f2. Also battery is really bad. Coil whine as well is noticable
