It turns out that just last week Intel released a new AHCI driver that reportedly - according to Intel and the Crucial SSD board - enables TRIM support. I just installed it and saw a usage pattern on my HDD at idle that would support the idea that it was being TRIMmed. So thanks for your help and yay for Intel!

Intel has a TRIM supporting driver? That is very relevant to my interests.

And how are your benchmarks looking now?

    Available here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/detail_desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=&DwnldID=15251

Benchmarks took a slight hit, but by "feel" performance is noticeably improved. I have heard that the Intel driver reduces latency issues significantly, but people were using the generic MS for the TRIM support; now we can have both!

Other benches I've seen than CrystalMark report improved results, seems it very much depends on not just what bench you use, but what version even. I'm of the "if it feels faster it IS faster" school..." but YMMV.

The driver you linked looks like it's only for RAID. Or something.

I was reading up on the 1014 IRST and it doesn't give TRIM to "regular" SSDs.

Oh well, if it's working out for you, no need to change it.

A couple of different users on the Crucial SSD Forum did some tests that convinced them that the TRIM command was working; one of them was pretty elaborate and quite convincing. At some point I'd hope Intel would come out with a single drive version that would explicitly support TRIM, especially as their SSD drives are among the most popular out there (I understand the Toolbox Optimizer handles it, but real-time is a lot more convenient).

I like the automated TRIM, but it's not a gamebreaker. I'd stick with the MS drivers, but for some reason it messes with the plug-and-play of my eSATA port. I've only been able to do real plug-and-play with the Intel drivers.

Try the new drivers I linked to, they are working fine in my U80V w/ 256 Crucial SSD and G73JH w/ 160 Intel SSD.
