the gpu will only be used when needed. That is the whole point of optimus. The laptop will use the intel integrated graphics when it doesnt need the nvidia card thus saving your battery. When you play a game or something that requires the gpu, it will be used. I noticed however when connected though hdmi only the intel graphics get used. You can see this in the nvidia control panel.

Anyone know what that button opposite of the power button is supposed to do? The manual for my U36SD says it is a power plan switching button, but it doesn't do anything when I push it. Can I set it to be a sleep button instead?

Hi can anyone help me? I am currently on assignment in South Africa for the next 2 years and my U36J that I bought from home (Australia) lost the hard drive today. ASUS agents in South Africa will not help me since they regard this as a "grey import" so am am left with just replacing the hard drive myself.

Problem is that I do not have a copy of the recovery partition so I am somewhat screwed. Is there any way someone with a u36 can create an image of the recovery partition for me, possibly with HDclone since it is freeware.

Anyone who is able to help can they please PM me and I can provide a ftp site to put an image on.

    Thanks in advance

You don't need a disk image. Just download a windows ISO and install from a flash drive or external DVD drive. You can legally get the official Win 7 ISOs from a microsoft subsidiary here: Windows 7 ISO x86 and x64 Official Direct Download Links (Ultimate, Professional and Home Premium) « My Digital Life

Then reinstall using the windows key on the bottom of your laptop. I had to do phone authorisation, but it works fine.

I have U36Jc-RX081V. What is maximum resolution I can get from HDMI (310M?)?

I know 1920x1200 works but is 2560x1440 possible?
