does anyone - maybe some of the systembuilders - know, what height of thermal pads are neccessary in order to get rid of the thermal-paste-cooled desaster that's stock?

Speaking of which, I just picked up one of these and my CPU temps at idle are hovering between 49 - 55C. That seems hot. Can other owners report idle temps?

yeah they do run quite warm. even with an undervolt mine is still pretty warm. i'm waiting on thermal pads to arrive since i will definately repaste it. with repaste and undervolt i think the temps will be controllable pretty well though. with my undervolt and the cores capped to 3.7ghz playing black ops i have cpu temps between 75 to low 82 (spikes), no repaste yet.
what i don't understand is why the bottom cover barely has any intake openings. the design of the bottom cover in my oppinion is a joke..

I never understood that either. On the 15" version they arn't even over the fans, dunno if the bigger one is the same.

The thermals on mine, even under heavy load actually arn't that bad though, low-mid 80s at the high end. Considering last gen reached 90s regularly, I'd say it's a huge improvement. Still going to repaste (assuming I keep it and not return it due to the poor performance), but mostly now just to see if it quiets down the fans instead just for the cooling benefit.

yup, same braindead-design on the big one.

yeah that's why i consider keeping it as well. i like the performance of it, no throtteling etc. also i think the fan noise compared to i.e. my former zephyrus is much more comfy, to my ears at least :)

but yeah, the bottom-lid... i have no idea whatever the desing-team was thinking. probably nothing...

No holes below the fan. My question would be... Since these things claim to have hardcore custom bladed fans with anti dust vents etc, maybe it doesn't need any holes in the bottom. Cus its blowing air through it at mach speed! Its possible that drilling holes would mess with the convection process or ...something, making it less efficient. I'm just grasping at straws here, you wouldn't think the lack of holes would be an oversight to the engineering development of the thing. Holes are cheap, and if they helped, you would assume they would have thought of it.

My next question would be. Regarding the new RTX2070 17" additions, I'm noticing the current screens available are not G-SYNC units. Is this simply because the new laptops are TOO NEW and have yet to have the screens certified for G-SYNC use?
Will these be able to be G-SYNC enabled at a later time, or will we be stuck with a non G-SYNC screen for the duration? Some claim a 144hz screen compensates for tearing and thus G-SYNC is not required. Others say G-SYNC rocks and cant live without it. Any answers?

I never really cared about about G-sync personally. As far as them being too new, I would assume they're using the same panels as the GTX versions, but that might be incorrect. Some other models are already out or upcoming with G-sync as well.

but then again, they used thermal paste instead of thermal pads on everything, so that puts the whole team in question again ^^ haha

I just picked this up at Fry's Electronics this morning. They were doing their 20% off everything to the first 40 people in the door. So before tax it cost $1680. Super deal.

I also picked up another 16GB stick for dual channel. It definitely does make a difference. 3DMark scores went up after installing the RAM.

First impressions are good. The fans are much quieter than my GS65. Out of the box CPU temps were hitting 90-95C. I just finished applying liquid metal and CPU temps are maxing out at 75C. GPU temps between 65-70C. The screen is nice and bright. I also have a bit of light bleed at the bottom on the black boot up screen. It doesn't bother me though.

    In Firestrike I'm getting 17200.
