I'd like to warn everyone who consideres buying this laptop. It produces a loud annoying high pitch sound from the CPU when in idle. Other asus laptops have the same problem:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum- How to eliminate high pitch noise?

Other than that, I got around 4 hours of batterylife, when windows appearence settings and battery options were tweaked.

    Hello everyone!
I just bought a N53JN yesterday, but it don't included any recovery disc, there is a notice said ASUS laptops won't ship with recovery discs anymore. How about yours? I try to install a clean Windows 7 but can't, the recovery disc I burn from AI Recovery install the bundle ware too, have anyone figure out how to get a clean ASUS OEM Windows 7? My edition is professional x64 english.

    Hey everyone,

This notebook looks promising, however I'm confused about some things.

    1) What keyboard will you actually find on the machine when you buy it - the chiclet or the other keyboard style (with little space between the keys)?

It's very confusing that the notebook appears in various reviews with the chiclet keyboard, yet on the pics at vendor sites it comes with the other style?! Makes you wonder if Asus equipped only the review units with chiclet keyboards.. Could someone clarify this issue? How many of you guys in here have the chiclet?

    2) Do all units in the N53JN series ship with the Bang & Olufsen sound system, or is that a feature reserved only for the most expensive units in the series?

Hope someone can help out with this before I pull the trigger on this one!

Do you have CDs with drivers and programs with ur N53?

Here's what i'm going to do when I get mine:

    Boot from Windows 7 DVD
    Start installation
    Format Hard drive
    Continue installing windows 7
Update windows, install anti virus, etc
Install the Asus programs I need

Download legal windows 7 ISO from here

For the most part Windows 7 does a very good job with drivers with a few exceptions (video, audio, and some specialized hardware).

Like essense said, just use a Win 7 DVD and follow the steps essence posted. just make sure you also look thru the optional updates because those tend to be the ones for your hardware. Then go onto nVidia for the 425M driver. Maybe realtek as well.

Well for one the N53 is not even available yet in the US. The date keeps getting pushed back. Latest release date is now Nov 5th.

    I think something is wrong.

Are you sure Full HD on a 15.6 screen is a good idea?
I heard a lot of complaints about text being too small due to dot pitch issues.

The argument i've been seeing is that you can lower the resolution from FHD but you can't increase the resolution from HD to FHD~ but there's always the option to increase DPI ? i dunno what it's called

I'm looking for a sleeve for this laptop and as you N53 owners already know, the N53 is quite wide, so its kinda hard to find a sleeve for it. Found this one, do you think it'll fit? Or has anyone else found a sleeve that fits with the laptop?

    : )

Could you please explain how to enable Intel DPST or how do I know if it's on?
    I'm only getting 3:45 max~

Nevermind I found it in the Intel Graphics Properties (right click desktop -> graphics properties -> Power -> Power Features

But it was always on, how did you get 4+ hrs?~

Are you guys just using a browswer and office applications when you obtain 3:45 - 4:30 hours? This notebook has a rather small battery. Anyone compare battery life to the Sager NP5135, which has similar hardware?

Also, have you been able to eliminate the CPU whine? From what I read, it occurs when the CPU enters some type of power saving mode.

    Thanks,
    C

Hi, I could only get 3:45hours max from basically googling stuff and writing on here; no youtube or music, bluetooth off, power savings mode

As for the CPU whine, I found a fix which is disabling "processor idle" HOWEVER, the sacrifice is 5-10degrees celcius which in turn means even lower battery life...... instructions here

hey, do anyone have this problem? i tried to enable my '3D Vision' in my Asus N53JF, but it says 'primary display's adapter does not support 3D vision'..does that mean my computer is currently running the integrated gpu? my asus n53jf gpu icon shows 'blue', which is integrated gpu.. Does anyone know how to switch it to dedicated gpu (GT 425M) ?

has anyone tried the 3D vision by the way?

    thank you!!

Does our display even support 3D vision?
"NVIDIA® 3D Vision™ technology is a combination of Graphics Processor Units (GPU), specialized 3D glasses, software, and certified displays and projectors"

Our notebook isn't on the list

And i'm pretty sure if it worked, we would see a sticker or something on the laptop as one of its selling points

Could be like XPS 15 L501x - you can turn on 3d vision when you connect 3d-capable screen via HDMI, but not on you laptop screen.

    Hello,
I have N53 and I have also the cpu whine sound.
And I hear an annoying sound in headphone output, like buzzing and noise, but not as high pitch as cpu. I am sure that I have no problem with my earphones, because they are CX 300 II and I use it without any problem with my iPods and other notebooks. Please inform me if you have got some kind of sound when you plug a headphone or earphone to the notebook.

Yes the led monitor is 60hertz and should be able to play. 3D vision is not new in laptops and desktops, nvdia has already launched it a year ago. I think it's the optimus that automatically switches between integrated and dedicated gpu. Does anyone know how to operate only the dedicated gpu? Heard it somewhere but can't find it anymore!

Hmm that problem sounds annoying, is there a possibility of removing what's plugged into the USB therefore maybe stopping the sound whilst using your headphones?.

I am considering getting this notebook and from what everyone has said it's a good buy.
