Ok, remember I mentioned about the constantly updating and installing update and configuring cycle? it just started again, when i shut down it would configure update, when I restart it would configure update, which is all and well with the exception that there are NO update to configure! I havent configured or installed any update for over 24 hours........

Wahammer is right, i think I just got a lemon, but hey, you guys get a good review out if it lol.....unless something happen tomorrow, I think Im gonna pack it up and go seek my options in store.

    I bought this notebook tonight!
Quick question though.. or 2 hehe

    1. What can I run to see if the HDD is 7200 or 5400? The BB features page says 7200, the specs page says 5400...

    2. What's the deal with the HDD being partitioned with an unused 10 GB? is that where the recovery SW is or something? Or can I resize the partitions and get that? back??

    Thanks!

    Congrats with your new notebook!

    1. The fastest way to see if your HDD is 7200 or 5400rpm is to unscrew the HDD panel from the back of your notebook and check it.
    2. The 10GB partition is your recovery partition. You can delete it if you want, but I'd make an image copy of the partition before deleting it. The recovery partition just makes it easier for you to restore your notebook back to factory settings.

Didn't we confirm a page or two back in the thread that it's a 7200?

JUST RAN 3D MARK 2006 AT EXTREME TURBO MODE (OVERCLOCKED) MODE AT 1366 X 768, MAX resolution on this computer. and has score of 8346, which is nearly identical to 8400 scoere on 1024 768 i ran earlier, so overclock mode really works. just ran it again in overclock mode at 1024x768, new score is whopping 9244. so in short NORMAL mode at 1024 x 768 is 8400, overclock mode is 9244. At 1366 x 768 overclocked score is 8346.

impressive scores on the 3dmark !!!
can you check what is being done while on that o/c mode ?
cpuz should tell you the cpu multiplier and fsb while gpuz will tell you the clocks the gpu is running.

    now in EXTREME TURBO MODE

CPU = 2492.5 MHZ, MULTIPLIER 8.5 BUS SPEED 293.3, RATED FSB 1172 (FROM 1066 FACTORY)

GPU = 530 CORE, 799 MEMORY, SHADER 1325, which i dont see any difference......so its mainly increased fsb?

My keyboard is faulty , whether its hardware or software I'm still not sure, I was able to duplicate the same problem just now again, so will take to bestbuy later. I thought about HP, better cpu and video card, but I do know sony has much better aesthetic and quality... so i'm kinda poundering.......Ill check on the warranty in a bit....oh one thing I do know about HP is it runs warm.. and usually not as quiet as others, thats also whats stopping mye from HP but my option is open.

Does it have a pcmcia type 2 slot or does it has a newer expresscard slot ?

    I can't wait to see a A1 version of this... :D

But is it just me or does anyone else also think that this G50V refresh came too soon, since the G50V is just 2 months old? I expected for a refresh to come in December or even January.

Asus might be following Gateway's example and just sending "beta" laptops to bestbuy to get evaluations from the customers. It wouldn't surprise me, as it seems to be following gateway's release pattern.

OK here is the deal, I took the laptop back to bestbuy explaning the keyboard lag issue, along with it, i printed the problem reported by users on several forums discussing the keyboard issue. She took the laptop to Geek Squad and came back a few minutes later saying they could not duplicate the problem (yea right, dont think they really tried). She said, why don't you try and ill watch, here is the good part. When she turn the laptop side way so I could type while she watched, the laptop screen turns black. But from the status light we all know the laptop is on, we waited 10 seconds and the LCD semi came back to life, then turns black, then white, then gray then black, then flickered then the computer just died. A tech manager came over checked it out to pronounce his official blessing for a dead G50, then prompted waived the 15% restocking fee and gave me a full refund. I can't say I was happy that it ended that way, I had higher hope for this laptop but I was just happy I didnt have to pay 200 bucks in restocking fee. I opted for a full refund instead of exchange, and to be honest, I might use this opportunity to seek an alternative instead of purchase the same laptop :p. I will still try to answer as many question as possible about anything I could remember and did on this computer if anyone needs to. Also I looked at the computer, box, manuel, NOTHING indicated this one has a global warranty, but nothing indicated it does not have one either, so I can not answer that question for you.

I hear................silence... hope you guys are ok.. keyboard lag is ok, but the sudden and mysterious death is quite disturbing and guess I'll never know the reason. I'm pretty sure mine is an isolated case, hope it doesnt discourage you guys from purchasing it....

I was generally very interested in this for the price and its gaming capabilities, and I'm hopefuly that the keyboard issues are something a simple bios upgrade can fix... So this is still one of my candidates.

I really hope the sudden death was an isolated issue. I'm still thinking about buying this laptop but I'll wait until more reviews come out. Shame you had to go through all that, but at least you got a full refund.

Awww crap! There goes my hopes and dreams for this laptop, I can just hope yours was a special case and not all VTs end up like this. By the way I'm Abe, nice to meet all of you, this is my first post :) I do have one question, how much of a difference can one notice between a 2.26 PROC and a 2.53 one? In relation to gaming and video editing, is it minuscule?

for gaming 2.26 vs 2.53 is not much difference, maybe 0.1 second load time, hard drive at 7200 rpm is more important as is video card.

Warhammer.. yes this laptop comes with software ready to overclocked the machine.. However the short lived hardware did not allow me sufficient time to explore all possibilities. Just 1st impression of OC it, which result everyone clearly saw, enable overclocked with 1 click to EXTREME TURBO MODE. However, i was not given an option on how fast to take it to.. Its just a dummy option 1 click, not like manually OC a machine in BIOS on a desktop.

well it was a one time incident.

I'll try to see what happened. ITs not like a crash or anyhting, the screen just went black.

(but i had 5% battery anyways..... idk if thath ad to do with anthing)

tommorow or this week i'll try to get crysis on my pc.

I hink it MIGHT have to do with the laptop thinking that the pc is on standby mode.

I'll give you guys a heads up, i'm going to be using this laptop 10 hours + a day for 2 weeks, tell you how it goes, and with the keyboard too.

going to use it in gaming, college, home, business, etc~

so far - its all good now.

source? just because someone said it doesnt make it a confirmed fact

considering the amount of interest this laptop has generated i would have thought there would be strong pressure to get 100% confirmation on this instead of just guessing
