To use the `~ key u have to go into computer hardware and go under Human Interface Devices. Then disable the inferred device and restart the game. This also is a prob. with fallout 3 which is the same maker of oblivion. This seems to be a issue with Vista x64 well have fun playing now. lol.

Thx! College we'll be easier this year. And gaming, of course.

I was wondering, is it too difficult to find a bag for this lap because of the 15.6 screen?

I got a swiss gear bag the model name is bimini from office max. I couldnt find the same model online but i didnt look too hard... but if anything you can always go to the store.

Tip: Take your latop with you to BB, office max/depot, Circuit city (sale?) and see what bags you fit good on

Thx guys, I was able to use an old case my father didn't need anymore.

I've playing with the pc for two days and I'm loving it. Everything feels very consistent and solid, both software and hardware wise.

Now I'll try some game demos!

    hey,

Actually while playing L4d everything on HIGH, native resolution or some games like the beta of Dawn of war 2, how many fps do you have?

I mean that's important for me because I only expect it to run Source games like cs or l4d, native reso, max setting, with a good average (about 50 fps).

l4d everything maxed out at native res, 2xAA n 4xAF, gets u to an avg of 40(+-15) against AI.. can drop a bit in some areas (was running on battery.. not sure if the performance is restricted then..) .. drop the aa n i suppose it shudnt b much of a problem./ will c later if can check plugged in.

didnt see much variation in fps like b4 second time round. was mostly over 40 during zombie attacks(level: hospital no mercy). as i said b4 u cud get away wid lil better numbers with aa off or by using "high performance" mode shadowkat said of if u jus want to reach the mostly 50+ mark :)
(btw online play might b a different scenario all together!)

And I was surprised the 2-3 Asus years warranty was not included (1 year factory o_O).

Do you know if there's any way we can extend it ?

    Two questions.....

    1. Anyone using the G50VT-X1 to play WAR how does it perform on high settings in serious T4 RVR keep/fortress battles. Im not worried about the newb stuff, I want a lappy that can handle the full brunt of a City Seige without turning it into a slid show.....

    2. Also for a good part of the day this would be hooked into a 1080p HDTV. Is going up to a 1900x1080 going to cripple the 9800GS?

The recent price drop has put this back on the radar, I mean heck for what I might be able to pick it up on clearance as some BBs (each sets their prices slightly different) has me light-headed. I had a 7805u but it was just too bulky and just didnt feel right so I have been waiting for the MSI GT725 but gosh only knows when that will be out if anytime soon. Also in contention is a i7 desktop but while it will kick the lappys in the pants performance wise, it is pretty much a boat anchor.

Purchased this lt from BB yesterday for $949. Figured it to be a solid investment. Got home, erased hdd and installed V64 Ultimate. Installed newest gpu drivers (179.28) and all the other things as normal.

Installed FFXI (which compared to some games, isn't that demanding). However when i run the game i get very bad FPS. I mean really bad. I have an acer aspire 5100 amd with ati 256mb card in it and it runs the game much better, What gives?? I've search the net for hrs, w/ no solution ;/ Anyone else play this game on this laptop and have similar issues? And if so, how/if you resolved them. Want to try and fix before i decide to return to Best Buy.

He meant your battery power mode, even when plugged in make sure it's on powered4gear high performance and not saving mode that could be the problem. I'd also call tech support before you return it, although it might be quicker to return it :D

It does, it just may not have a noticeable effect on whatever you're doing. Are you working with anything CPU-intensive? If you're not, a 230-ish mhz increase in clock speed isn't going to be significant.

This is a bestbuy item right? They have different warranty terms than the reseller ASUS laptops.

You may be able to extend via bestbuy, I don't know of a way in which you could upgrade to the reseller ASUS warranty.

I bought this laptop over a week ago for $1049.99. I saw that BB had it on sale a few days later so I had $100 refunded to me. I had the Windows Update thing that kept coming up but it's gone now. I've really only had one issue so far but I haven't found the problem yet. I've playing America's Army for 4 years now. While playing it on this machine, I experience lag every once in a while where the screen freezes for about 5 seconds, then resumes. At first, I thought it was the wireless internet, but it doesn't do it on my wireless desktop. I updated to the latest video drivers and I've tried different video settings in the game. I even turned off the wireless and hooked it up wired to the internet and it still does it. If I put this on turbo or turbo extreme, it still does it. Any suggestions?

PS I just found this site and find it very helpful.

seem to have run into some minor rather slightly annoying problems..

    1) the sound from laptop speakers arent muted wen a headphone is plugged in but is if desktop speakers are hooked up..

    2) have got keyboard lag still even after updating bios and all the drivers.. and removed synaptic drivers recently.. infact came to know of it wen looking for a soln for the problem below :D

3)but thats less of a problem than having the 'x' letter coming up on screen randomly as if the key has been depressed and kept depressed.. end up hitting the x key a couple of times or the esc key to stop it.. can get annoying wen typing.. tho its frequency has decreased dramatically since i updated kbfilter and almost stopped since i removed synaptic driver a week ago.. thought that fixed it until yesterday.. Almost! :)

ne1 having one or more of the above?!

    NBR,

I owe you guys a tremendous thanks! Although, it took me quite a while to read through this whole thread, I finally became convinced enough to get this sweet deal at $950!

Then on top of that, I used NBR's forums to fix known issues, update appropriate drivers, and really optimize this baby! Despite being an admited computer idiot, everyone's plain english responses and guides here at NBR really helped out a lot! Especially thanks to: EBE, Flaminko, Coriolis, SC (Gary), and Howard (for being the guinea pig that got this thread started)!

Oh yeah, btw, first post. Thanks again guys, I'll have some seriously dumb questions coming up!

    -=CURSED=-

PS. I have no clue what's the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit. One kills my Pandora, and the other sucks for games, right?

Nice, its you good you liked. I'm in Brazil and I just bought one. My sister is coming home to the Carnaval Fest and she is bringing me mine, and them I'll do all this updates, but can you please help me and list the things u did (with links), cause as said before I wanna do it too.

As for your question about 64bit or 32bit, it depends on what programs u use. I use 64bit (vista ultimate 64bits) for a very long time and till now only few programs I had problems with, one I can remeber is AutoCad 2009, as u can see is a very new program and imo I think is because its not made to run on 64bit, and there's got be a version for 64bit. All the rest runs smoothly, because u can run either (64 and 32 - most of them) in vista 64bit.

    Hope I helped!

    sorry for the writing mistakes!

Hi all. First post. I just got my new Asus (yes I go the X5 ...... I kind of like the brown/yellow colors) I am not a gamer so having the higher processor wasn't a biggie for me.

My one big question is: are there suppose to be CD's included with the notebook? Mine had been opened by geeksquad (nothing done to it). And if not, how does one make a back up recovery CD? I can't seem to find the option for that any where.

    Thanks a bunch!
