Under Device Manager > Monitors it just lists three instances of "Default Monitor" and one instance of "Plug and Play Monitor" and for all of these it lists the manufacturer as "(Standard monitor types)." Is there somewhere else that I can check for you?

Hi guys, it anubissx, I just got my A8jm today. After one long month of waiting, I finally got it.
It a very great machine, first impression is it very beautiful, stylist and feel sturdy. The LCD is not that great, it glare too much but it ok, viewing angle is ok too, not too great but ok. The color is very odd, and I am looking for some color correction now, anyone know anything about it? My wireless is not working but I am trying to repair it now.Everything else work great.
I would like to thank these guys for helping decide to get this great laptop, also the 1st laptop in my life Darrick, Chaz, Shampoo and many other guys.
    Thank you very much
Also, thanks MilestonePC and Danny :)

Anubissx: Glad you're happy with the machine...

For color correction: Under Nvidia Display (right click on your desktop, should be an option there) there should the a Color Correction & Overlay settings which you can play around with. I think I read something about some good settings under the LG forum somewhere. Have you tried playing around with some of the Splendid modes? Maybe one of the default ones will suit you and you don't have to set them manually.

Let us know if we can help with the wireless problem ....

there's also an utility from adobe to help u do color correction you could try that. My lcd came pretty well tuned so i have left it the way it is, compared to my crt colors dont match (duh!) but they dont seem to bother me in anyway.

Besides im not very nit picky with color either but i know a lot of ppl are and they have said the color reproduction isnt correct. I say "BAH! when im killing terrorists in counter strike source at 130fps on a laptop, i could care less if the color of the vegetation is correct". :)

u shudnt have had to install drivers they should come pre-installed. Did you check all the settings if you have, revert to the older version of the synaptics drivers on the synaptic website

I am very interested in purchasing the A8F for my girlfriend and she doesn't need the 7600, how is the machine? is it everything that is the A8J with a lesser video card and a faster processor? And also if you could tell me what the battery life is like.

    My friend's W3j InstantON work.
I heard lot of A8jm 's InstantOn does not work, can anyone confirm this
And I will downloaded the synaptics driver and install them
See if it fix this bug.
    Overall, this laptop rock

The InstantOn feature on the A8j has never worked; Darrick and others have contacted Asus/posted earlier on this issue and Asus has apparently since changed the documentation to indicate that it (more or less) serves no function on the unit; there are no apparent plans to fix this. Darrick can probably comment more completely if I missed anything here.
The scroll area might be set too narrow (you can adjust both the vert & horiz areas) or the pressure settings are too heavy in the touchpad settings - I'd check those before wiping and reinstalling the driver.

You are so right ClearSkies, the scroll area is very narrow plus it require heavy touch, more heavy than normal pointing and tap. I checked and now it work great, maybe a bit to sensitive.
So instantON do nothing, oh well, it not a big deal anyway, plus point for W3j then.

    Hey guys... some comments:

    - I think I'm proven wrong about the InstantON working on A8F... I read in the ASUS forums that it works with integrated graphics somehow, and have been trying to get an A8F user to try it out... Pin has managed to try it out, and it doesn't work either... so no InstantON :( sorry bout the confusion.

    - As everybody has mentioned, the Synaptics scrollpad DOES take a lot of getting used too ... need pressure in the right places ... :)

After it dectect the wireless network, I switch to Window Wireless, it stop at obtanining IP adress, I switch back to IntelPRO, it also stop at obtaining IP adress, I try it for sometime and it work.
BTW, I am using battery and the speed is great, download at 100 kbs.
Maybe I should check the Window Wireless again? any ides guys.

    thanks

ok well I am comparing the a8jm with the compal hgl 30

    a8jm

    http://www.intel.com/reseller/mobile/vbi/matrix.htm

you will notice that the a8jm uses the same display as the compal hgl 30 now, I dont know if the stats on those other two possible lcds the hgl 30 can have are any different.

But anyhow, right now I feel safe to assume the a8jm and the hgl 30 use the exact same screen

I was looking at the possibility of swapping the 1280x800 of the A8jm with a 1440x900. AUO makes a 1440x900 model as well. However for the 1280x800 one it says the interface is "1ch LVDS" and for 1440x900 it says it's "2ch LVDS" i have a feeling that means the swap won't be possible

Anubissx: I think there's a setting somewhere that prevents Windows wireless Manager from working if Intel Pro/Set wireless software is installed... don't remember where.. but glad you got it working with Intel anyway... that's what I use also...

For those interested, I'm trying to undervolt my CPU and underclock the GPU to see how much extra battery time I can get from it.

Right now, I've undervolted the 11x multiplier to 1.013V, torture test it with Prime95 running one instance on each core... and 6hrs 14 mins... still no problems.. so I guess it's fine at that VID. My crash voltage was at 0.988V, and at 1.000V it crashed after about 2 hrs of Prime95.

The Go7600 i managed to underclock (the 2D settings, not the 3D) to 25 core and 55 mem , but haven't tested it too much yet....

Darrick, what GPU driver are you using now.
I been using mine stock driver since but thinking of getting new driver for the Go 7600.
My stock Nvidia Control Center version is 84.26
My GPU BIOS version is 5.73.22.16.19
IS there any new driver? which one is good?
Thank and have a nice day

Anubissx: I'm using 85.98 ... but I think there isn't much difference in regular use from 84.26. The official Nvidia Forceware is up to 91.33 or something, but ASUS hasn't released anything later than 85.98.

ps. you won't be able to install drivers downloaded directly from nvidia site, you'd either have to get it from ASUS site or LaptopVideo2Go.com .

zydus : I'm not underclocking it, just undervolting it... I'm leaving the throttle & clock settings etc to P4G... I'm using RMClock to undervolt... and yeah the voltages can be adjusted and reverted on the fly. I'm testing right now, so I don't set it to load auto on Windows start... so if it crash or anything, it goes back to default settings....

The latest ASUS driver I found on their Web site is 84.26, not 85.xx.

BTW, 2.10 BIOS has been released, anyone look at it and see if it's made a difference?

Look under video cards and you can find 85.xx its not listed under A8J but it supports Go 7600 without any inf modifications. Alternatively check laptopvideo2go under the version no. they list the manufacturers who released this version of the driver.

And same question as above where did you spot 2.10 ?

Bacon: It's under V6J I believe.... although it's in the V6 section, the INF actually says it's for lots of GPU models, including the Go7600.. I found this out from LaptopVideo2Go .... seems like ASUS doesn't put these in each individual machine section, but just random(?) .....

Oh its not under the BIOS or the LATEST tab but under the tree structure called Map instead...they really need to update their pages properly.

Also I notice that in May IR drivers were released...are these new? or are they the ones already on the system?

Yea i just noticed it too, I guess someone read your question about what is TPM so they added it in the bios, which is better than changing their manual :)

Is there a list anywhere of what the 85.xx changes from the 84.xx? I'm having significant irritation with the NVidia drivers handling of multimon, but everything else is solid, but if 85.xx changes things then I'm inclined to upgrade.

I'm wanting to install vista on a seperate partition...

    - has anyone been successful - i have only heard of complications.
    - could it damage my system?

I want it so I can have a slick OS without all the extras that I have on XP...and I want to try it out - Linux would be fine, but vmware takes care of my linux cravings

    Hi A8jm'er how are you?
Anyone of you using vista theme on your A8jm, I am using Vista Transformation pack which is nice but dont have the glassy effect.
I dont like using windowblind for some program dont work with it like yahoo messenger which auto shutdown with windowblind.
Anyone know any way to have glass effect without using windowblind?
BTW, I just register with ASUS to a member, I dont know if there is any benefit to it though, just do with my friend. But I think Asus inform you with new updates.
And in the FAQ, Instantkey will function if we install some program like ATk or something. I read Darrick about InstantON function but I just want to ask you guys opinions.
Thanks and have a nice day you all.

gusto5, I've suggested many times, if possible it would be great to use an external USB keyboard for home gaming. I'm not sure if your doing that, but generally all keyboards will wear out depending on the amount of use.

My desktop keyboard has 4 worn out keys because of gaming in 3-4 months.
The "W" letter is fading, same with "D" and S" and my "A" key lost it springy feel to it.

Ideally you want a cheap gaming USB keyboard that you can replace every now and then once the keyboard wears out.

Instant ON doesn't work, download the latest manual which they updated last month i believe they rename it to Instant Fun Plus or some stupid thing like that.

@ gusto (First A8Jm owner in Canada if not NA, i was 2nd hehe): Thats very surprising. I guess ur playing a lot of fps? And do ur fingers sweat hehe i had to ask. I play quite a bit, and i put a piece of cloth (the little rag they give u when u buy new glasses to wipe ur glasses with) on the palm rest, so that when im using wsad to play my palm doesnt discolor the palm rest, i dont know if it will, i dont wanna risk it.
