I did update to the latest BIOS, but the problem still there. I also did what u said, but still can not solve the problem. I also email the tech support, they told me exactly what you told me is to update the BIOS. Do you have any other idea? Thanks for your help.

- try to see if the freezing also happens while sitting in the BIOS (not in Windows or another OS). Remove all peripherals while trying it. If yes, then I think it's harware-related and you would need to send it in.
- otherwise try to install Windows from scratch. Install drivers and apps one by one, see at what point it starts to freeze -- and maybe you will identify the culprit application. See if that solves the problem, and if not, again, it may be hardware which would require you to send it in. -
Has anyone tried windows 7 on the a8jp, yet? I was going to try out the 64-bit version, but I figured there would be a lot of things that have no drivers.

Has anyone had to replace their clicker? My right click is going out, working when it wants to, or rather it depends if I click it in the narrow "good area" or not. I'm fairly certain that this is a hardware problem and I'm willing to take this computer apart to fix, however, I'm having trouble finding out what I need to replace. From what I can tell the clicker is not on the motherboard. My question is it apart of this: http://estore.asus.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=3578 Or another part? I can't quite tell from the disassemble photos I found in these forums and I don't see any other parts in the Asus store as far as the clicker/touchpad goes. Please help!
Thanks! -
Well it looks like it's the whole thing, including the buttons. At least for the A8 that I had the buttons were integrated on the touchpad surface in that way ( http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v58/trieper/a8he/IMG_0514.jpg ) so I guess that part should do fine.

Well it really appears likely that it's hardware related. You could try it under a live linux distro to make sure. -
Resurrecting the dead! Sorry!
Newbie here.
I bought my A8JP 4 years ago and it has served me well. However, the casing around the screen is coming apart. It's peeling away, little pieces of screws and plastic pieces are falling out (so far not computer hardware) and just last night my cat barely nudged the edge of the screen and it collapsed back against my desk. As I moved it back to its viewing point, the whole thing was creaking and moaning and I feared it would just shut off on me.
I closed it for the night and reopened it again this morning and unless it's in the "perfect" spot, it either collapses closed or collapses backwards flat. I don't know how much longer the screen will last.
Which leads me to my question. I love this laptop, it runs everything I need it too and besides the screen really gave me no problems.
I called a Asus repair place here in Utah and he wouldn't give me a quote over the phone, but from searching the internet people said replacing laptop screens can get pretty expensive (one website said $600 dollars!). I don't know if that's true or not...
So, I was thinking about just buying my own screen and attempting my own repair. I found a couple websites and after some research found most people thought they were scams or were scammed. So I checked ebay and ran across this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ASUS-A8JP-A8JR-...temQQimsxZ20100214?IMSfp=TL100214121004r13813
90. for a laptop screen. Isn't that cheap? It says its just a replica or whatever and it should work. Should I even trust these people?
Or should I just pony up the money, be broke for a month or so, and buy a new laptop? -
If I understand what you're saying, you don't need to replace the screen. It sounds like the screen assembly(The plastic casing that houses the actual screen) is falling apart. Very common with the A8JP. All you need, is to replace that plastic assembly.
I believe this is the part: http://estore.asus.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=4091&catid=499
I've replaced this part once on my own. I completely disassembled the computer to do it, but I think it can be done by just undoing th screws on the LCD bezel, prying the bezel off of the LCD cover and then undoing all the necessary screws and removing the various wires attached in there.
Anyway, it shouldn't be a $600 repair. -
That is exactly what I am looking for! Thank you!

Okay. That piece just came in. Is it only supposed to be the back of the screen case? I thought it was the front also. The front of my laptop screen cass is broken in out area.
~crossing fingers hoping it will work~ -
Can anyone point me toward a replacement keyboard for this notebook? I couldn't find it on the Asus estore.
PS: The screen works great now -
The estore is now worthless for the a8jp. The old one had all kinds of parts, but this one doesn't seem to.
Does anyone know where to get a replacement touchpad or case bottom?
I've searched all over and haven't found a single one (there were a few asus replacement touchpads with google, but not sure if it fits).

Hello...
Could one of my a8jp brethren lend a hand?
I'll be selling mine, in a few days, and I'd like to get it back to factory spec.
I have a blue/white driver disc that I thought included restoration (it has an i386 directory), but it tries to boot into a pre-installation environment and then fails.
Would one of you guys rip an iso for me? I can give you my ftp or one of the free hosting sites could be used.
I'd really appreciate it if I could get this done before the weekend.
Thanks...
JJ
I purchased a new keyboard a year or two ago (not from ebay but one of the many online laptop battery/parts stores). I did just purchase some fix-up parts on ebay, though. They're all Hong Kong shipments.
