    Hello.
I have the Asus 73JW Laptop. I have never used the built-in microphone and now want to. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to enable it.
I went to Control Panel and found the microphone under Sound>Recording and it lists a microphone and it has a green check mark meaning it's enabled. But under properties it indicates that this microphone uses the 3.5mm jack on the side of my computer.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Have you tried a utility like skype to test if the mic was actually working?

I'm also guessing that you don't have any device plugged into the mic jack. Just making sure, sometimes we try something, but forget that we have another device plugged in or some other simple thing.

If there is nothing plugged in the 3.5mm jack, it might be that the switch responsible for switching the feed between the internal and jack is broken or stuck. While i can't confirm this, i'm pretty sure the switch is done via hardware instead of software so it could be physically stuck.

IF you have done a clean install, like I have on my SW, then you will find that you need some sort of driver. This also goes for the webcam, which has no provided drivers from Asus.

Actually, for my JH, i didn't need drivers for the microphone, except for the realtek sound drivers which are at something like 2.66. It worked just fine. I did need drivers for the webcam though and that was a nightmare in it's own regard, but i'll leave it at that not to go off topic.

Try updating your sound drivers first and then get back to us. I can't believe i forgot to suggest drivers

Ok. I'm on the Asus member site and getting ready to download the new audio driver (didn't see one for the mic specifically). Do I use the Global (DLM) file or the Global file?
    Thanks
