    Making returns

    So I've had enough of my G73jh. I want to try to get my money back. I originally got it from an online reseller, but all RMA's were handled directly through asus. I've never had to return something like this. So I'm wondering how I should start this out. Should this be handled through where I got the laptop or directly through asus? Anyone have any tips about dealing with this, things I should have ready, questions to be prepared for, how they will try to get out of giving me money back?

    Short history:
    Purchased March 2010 with asus warranty extension from online reseller
    Still in first year of ownership and I've had to do an RMA 4 times and am now in need of a 5th.

    So if anyone has gone through this process I would appreciate some insight to trying to get rid of this laptop. Thanks.

    You want to return this laptop for a refund of your money after almost 1 year of owning it? LOLZ.... you are way way way past due the return for refund period.

    Your only chance is if there is still an issue on your laptop then Asus will fix it for free under warranty so basically you are stuck with it unless you try and sell it.

    If Hellcry didn't get a refund, you have no chance in hell of getting a refund.

    Just list it on ebay or craigslist.

    Sorry, but I don't think anyone has an 11 month return policy. You'll have to suck it up, fix it, or sell it.

    Start looking at other options coz a refund ain't gonna happen.

    With that said, im sorry that you had so many issues with your g73. Tough luck i guess.

    lol I had a tonne of problems with my laptop five weeks after purchase. Actually, I had a problem a week after purchase, and returned it and got a different model from my reseller. Four weeks after THAT, I started having problems and I started the RMA process after a month of troubleshooting here.

    So, 9 weeks after buying it, my g73 was repaired 5x by asus, taking almost 3 months. And I didn't get a refund.

    Also, look up Hellcry and his story.

    Basically: You want a refund? I want to win a million dollars. Sorry, you're asking for a refund after almost a year (FOREVER in terms of technology). Not going to happen. You *might* be able to get a model upgrade, but that's quite unlikely if you're simply unsatisfied.

    Yeah your best bet after having 4x RMAs is to ask for a new replacement of some sort and if they give you that then throw it up for sale as soon as you get it back while its still new in the box..

    I believe some people on here have been given new replacements so its worth a shot and maybe you can recoup a decent portion of your money ..

    4x rma is a little much. I would have asked for a replacement on the 3rd RMA. ^^ Why did you have to RMA it so many times?

    1st time - it wouldn't start up. If you tried it a few times it would sometimes come on. Most of the time the keyboard would light up and nothing else would happen.

    They got it and just reinstalled the OS

    2nd time - same as the first as it came back doing exactly what it was. This time they replaced the motherboard.

    3rd time - motherboard fixed previous issue, but then the NIC card wouldn't work most of the time and it was being used on a wired network. Replaced the NIC

    4th time - set it to boot from usb to run some memtests do to some recent BSOD troubleshooting. There was only a blinking cursor after that. I think this one called for a new board as well.

    it's due for a 5th one now - It has been powering up, posting, then restarting multiple times. Wasn't doing it that much and was using it some. But the frequency is increasing. But the NIC is also bad, once again.



    So I figured this is basically a lemon and I want to try and get my money back or get a replacement for the entire unit. I've probably actually only had this laptop physically in my possession for maybe 3 months. They've had it the rest of the time. And most of the time I had it I was waiting to get a mailing label.

    And I'll be sure and look into hellcry's story. I figured I'd check here before I did anything. I don't care if it's been a year. With as many issues I've had. They're going to hear about this one way or another.

    Just giving an update here. I've finally got this sent in for the 5th RMA. After being in contact with Asus it appears they are going to replace the laptop after they check the one I send in. I wish this could be for money back since I've already had to get one to replace it but I'll take a replacement just the same. At least they are doing that. It makes me feel a little better about Asus after what I've been through with the current one. Of course I did point out in my initial email that what they are spending on shipping and parts on this unit is almost what I paid for it and that I also got the 3 year warranty. I pointed out that I can keep RMA'ing for the next two years and that they should consider replacing it as the cheaper option. Guess we'll see how the new one holds up...

    Hopefully the replacement works well. A few people have gotten bad replacements also. IMHO if a replacement is needed you should get the latest model brand new, not a refurb from someone else's defective unit.

    Sucks they didn't replace the MB on the first RMA, I read the first sentence and knew it was a bad MB right off the bat (mine had the same issue exactly), to only do a OS reinstall is insulting; but what can you do?

    Good luck. I bought a 2006 Dodge RAM diesel truck new in '06 it needed constant repairs, all under warranty. After 13 months (& only 5k miles) I filed a lemon lawsuit only to find out the statute of limitations was 12 months. If I'd filed within 12 months I'd have have gotten my money back or a new car. But since I was a month overdue Crysller gave me $1500 and said get lost. That was the only car I've ever bought that wasn't a Toyota. Now I tell anyone who will listen to stay away from Crysller/dodge and get a Toyota instead.

    If you get the latest model,which will surely include a second generation Intel Core i7 Sandy Bridge processor,be sure 100% that the motherboard is the revised one consisting of the B3 stepping units.
    Otherwise you will have issues with your SATA connected devices (SATA 6GB/S) and you will have to go through another RMA.

    The older "B2" revised motherboards usually degrade at a rate of 3~15% per year!

    To identify your laptop motherboard is of the latest chip set or not:

    1.Check your package,because all the latest revisions come out "B3 Revision" tagged.
    2.Download and use this software,which helps you to identify the faulty SATA ports (If any) :
    Gigabyte 6 Series SATA Check utility can identify B2 or B3 stepping - Funky Kit
    The old models are listed as "B2",and the newer ones are "B3".

    I'll look into all that. Thanks for the advice. They are, of course, still checking things over so I don't know what's going on just yet, but will update as I find out more.

    Well, got the replacement last week, but just now got a chance to turn it on. It's the same type G73JH-A2. When you refer to the B2 or B3 model is that the model number or the the start of the serial number? My serial number starts with B2.

    He's referring to the new SW model, I guess he was meaning if they did decide to send you a whole other model vs just a JH-A2 replacement.

    So no need to worry about steppings, for the most part, all Sandy bridge laptops are coming with B3 stepping by now anyways.

    If you had it for a week but didn't turn it on, you're not really demonstrating what lawyers would call due diligence in your interactions with asus.

    I beg to differ, when we were already forced to buy a different laptop to replace this one, there was no rush to make sure it was working right away as no one would be using it for the time being.


    Also, when you are out of town it makes it difficult to turn it on.
