I know this is a question that has been posted around here many times, but I can't find any good information. Sorry if this sounds very repetitive with previous forum posts.

Getting to the point, I have a G71GX-RX05, and the fan is loud and distracting. I am in high school, and when I am just on something like Microsoft Word, the fan will get very loud, and I can tell it bothers others. It doesn't matter if I am running games or not, the fan is just loud. Is there any way I can slow down the fan manually when I am not playing games so it is not bothersome? Would either SpeedFan or SmartDoctor do the trick? Do I need a BIOS? Something else?

    Thanks in advance.

I would suggest blowing out the vents. It sounds like they are clogged with dust.

If it's not that, perhaps the fan is going bad? From what I know, adjusting the fan speed is not possible on those laptops. Besides, they also run hot. Slowing them down isn't something you want to do. ;)

Nope there is no way atm to do what you want. But you can read more about how to do it (but some tried no success), control fan speed with registry hack

Cleaning should help as the above poster said, you might have some dust making the radiator inefficient, if that doesnt work you could also try repasting, sometimes the factory paste isn't applied correctly, has dried up, etc. The fan is kicking in cause of the temps or thresholds it has on the bios, so another thing that could help is undervolting, check the following threads, An Optimization Guide for the Asus G51 and T he "Undervolting" Guide
