I'm sure it works for YouTube, but this is not a solution since it ONLY works for YouTube (which obviously isn't the only site that employs video).

Just switched to HTML5 - I just had to click something at youtube.com. Will see how it performs over time. I don't have switchable graphics though.

Do I get it correctly. This won't enable flash, but will allow me to watch You Tube videos? This would mean that no battery life reduction in general unless I actually watch you Tube videos.

It's kind of funny now, I am trying to figure out how to disable flash (Chrome Browser) on my Windows laptop. Without flash, pages load faster. But I do go to You Tube to watch videos. I do not really watch videos on any other site.

Well, you'll be using HTML5 on the videos and I'm sure that there's a cost to that. I haven't seen performance comparisons between flash and html5 but I'm happy just to reduce my use of Flash.

On Windows, I use 32-bit and 64-bit firefox. Flash isn't supported on 64-bit firefox so flash doesn't run (neither does Java, etc.). On 32-bit Firefox, I use flashblock so that I can choose. I do agree with Apple's stance on Flash. It's like they created an operating system allowing websites to run complicated programs on your machine without your permission.

Understood, while actually viewing something by choice the use of resources is fine.

My Windows Machine runs of Windows Vista 64-bit. Thanks for the tip.

I do not really dislike flash or anything. But in my part of the world, the interest really is not all that fast yet. So battery life issues aside, there is the factor of how to reduce the wait.

Isnt it the same thing as Youtube's own HTML5 beta??

    YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

    This is what I use.
Basically all videos that do NOT have any ads on them, use HTML5 rather then Flash - you notice no difference.
All videos that do have ads play with Flash.

The only place you see any difference is that when a video is playing via HTML5, you see a small HTML5 icon in the time bar of the video. Also at the moment HTML5 only runs at 320p - you cant do HD - but that will change I guess, once Youtube finish their beta??

Works pretty well too. Dont even notice the difference most of the time - except for the increase in battery life!!
Come on HTML5, get a move on!!

youtube html5 trial does not have all videos in html5. This addon turns all videos in youtube into html5.
