anyone who uses the playbook, much like the blackberry, is clueless. Blackberry is ... nothing, they really never had the "smartphone" market IMO, much better things to work with have always been available.

The tablet for professionals? Maybe the ones that have nothing to do! lmfao

Never had a smartphone market?? Really?? I use an android but I think most businesses still prefer the blackberry.

Apple does need to make a model with a real keyboard ...but we all know that apple will never do that.

Blackberry phones are classified as smartphones. They may not be able to run all of the apps out there but RIM was in this game long before Apple and Google decided to jump in. That is mainly how RIM is staying alive: they offered a secure solution for businesses and government groups. Now those same clients are sticking with Blackberry as they don't want to buy new servers, their IT departments don't want to go through even more training, they don't want to learn new platforms, and neither Google or Apple are offering up that security blanket that business and government need.

The portion that RIM is losing out on is the general consumer market. There used to be a time when someone would buy a Blackberry if they wanted a smartphone but now the average consumer will go with Android or Apple. The PlayBook was supposed to bridge the public and private sectors but it is too little too late for RIM. They are also failing to see the big picture in that it doesn't really matter what OS a tablet runs, what hardware it has underneath, or what company makes it. The only thing consumers care about is the ease of use and whether or not they can download all of the apps that they want.

Apple pulled in tons of developers from day one with the iPad and have had a one year leg up on the competition. It is going to take awhile before anyone can even come remotely close to the amount of (and quality of) apps that the App Store offers. Google seems to be the only one even competing with Apple in this regard as RIM is still stuck in the old days, HP hasn't gone anywhere with WebOS and their tablet isn't even out yet (or it isn't doing anything), Palm was assimilated, Microsoft canceled any plans for a tablet centric OS and are now intent on porting Windows 8 over to ARM, and Linux tablets are MIA.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that the iPad 2 is perfect but Apple is currently the only company doing things right. Google is off on the right path but they have a lot of catching up to do. They also need to work with app developers on the whole fragmentation issue whereas the iPad provides the same experience across each and every model.

I guess I shouldn't mention that RIM just recalled 1000 of its PlayBooks then....

As an unhappy owner of a Blackberry, I want to support RIM as much as the next guy in hopes of them actually coming up with a competitive product I'd enjoy using, but....

It's funny how you turned around especially after having initial issues with your PlayBook and even choosing it over something that has an established app store and market...

But you already had an iPad 2 and returned that for the PlayBook. What happened to all of the benefits of the PlayBook and never wanting to buy a 10" tablet? So you spent all that time just to come full circle back to your original conclusion that the iPad 2 is the better buy?

I got rid of the ipad 2 before cause i felt it was too big to be carried around and only 2/3 the area size of my MBP. But i missed it. Even though ill be getting an iphone 4 this week as well, i still think there is a spot in the daily life where an ipad can fill a void over the iphone and MBP.

Ah yes, I forgot about your flawed mathematics as an iPad 2 is not 2/3rd of a 13" MacBook Pro. It doesn't matter how you look at things, the iPad 2 is just not that big no matter what you say. So is this thread hypocritical or ironic? I still can't decide as they are both present here.

I thought it was because of problems you found with the display of web-pages.

I think you need to make less statements, and ask more questions before you leap to conclusions leading to purchases, then returns. You are coming off as a PIA Noob.

    I'm just sayin'. LOL

    @op.

Honestly I was turned off by his "comparison". It should have been labeled a rant.

Funny part is, that the blackberry is THE smartphone to have amongst teenagers and adults.

Blackberry messenger is and WILL remain the #1 way to talk on phones. You are commenting because I bet you have never had a blackberry smartphone.

Blackberry's Java environment has NEVER been cracked, and they are the most trusted for enterprise use. I guess there is no reason why that is right?

Have you used a playbook? Or are you just making stuff up?

RIM is actually increasing their share of the smartphone market. While RIM doesn't have many apps for their App World (Trust me, I would know), the stock blackberry is an amazing phone. No smartphone can touch it battery wise (including the torch, which ATM is the most powerful blackberry on the market) and nobody has come close to cloning blackberry messenger and PIM. Blackberry will continue to thrive and will not have the same destiny as Palm (they really deserved it, sorry to say. I loved my treo 680 dearly though) just because it is the #1 phone for communications.

It does the bread and butter MUCH better than iPhones can.

    1.) Call quality
    2.) Signal grip
    3.) Battery life
4.) Push Email (the best in the game)
5.) Same platform instant messaging (nothing can come close to the addictiveness of BBM)
    6.) Push notifications
7.) Blackberry enterprise server (for exchange/lotus etc.)

There are more I'm just too tired to list them. Even While RIM is not stuffing their phones with dual core 1.2 ghz processors or Tegra chips, they are still doing pretty damn well no matter what anyone says. They are basically the Thinkpads of the smartphone industry.

Check out the 9900 that will be released in August. Damn sexy phone I'd have to say.

Tl;dr If you're laughing at a blackberry, then you really haven't ever used one.

    In regards to apps...

What are they for? Why do we have apps for let's say sports scores? Convenience? Maybe. I believe that the iPhone's web experience is lacking and it has Apps to make up for that.
