My daughter just handed me her old Macbook to fix. The computer seems to boot fine until it starts to try and load the desktop. At that point the screen remains white and then the error: xrc resource: cannot create bitmap from 'bncsaui.xrs$banner_basic.png' pops up. I cant get past that point even if I click ok. It just stays blank... Please help! Here homework is on this computer and she is stressing me out...

Looks like an OS error of some kind. depending on what model it is I would say unless she has a backup pop out the hard drive and put it into a SATA enclosure to remove the data to another computer. then wipe and reload the drive with a clean load of OSX, but also check for bad sectors in the process.
