i have a reinstallation cd for windows xp home edition including service pack 1a from my old dell desktop. Will this work on my new mbp through bootcamp? I read in the bootcamp thread that only service pack 2 will work, but i am trying to keep my hopes up and also trying to avoid spending $90 for a new copy of xp

    thanks

According to Apple's official Boot Camp requirements where I wrote the sticky from, no, it will not work. Only SP2 will work.

yeah i tried to use my sp1 xp and it loaded but then will not load the drivers from the CD you make using bootcamp.... its really annoying... you can load your sp1 then upgrade it to sp2 with an update, but it wouldnt work for me casue of legality issues regaurding my "copy" of xp :shifty

I believe there is a way you can use your SP1a version if it's a legal copy. I think it's called slip streaming or that might be totally the wrong term. Anyway, whatever it is called, search around on the forums on how to do it.

Yes, it's called slipstreaming. Pretty much involves making an image of the install cd and then adding the content patches/service packs and burning it again. Search Microsofts site for detailed instructions on how to do it.

Meaning you CAN turn SP1 into SP2 legally. :) Just go get the Service Pack from Microsoft's website and slipstream it.

Did Apple actually say it won't work... or do they just not support it? It's just a BIOS emulator, right?
I'd be very surprised if it didn't work, at least in safe mode (with the MS default drivers for everything), and once you boot into safe mode you can just use Windows update (assuming this is a legal copy) to get to SP2. And then install the Apple drivers. At least that's what I'd try... probably a bit easier than slipstreaming.

once you install XP on it and have not yet done the driver installl the internet wont work, so you have to go download the patch or update in OSX and then transfer it to your windows partion, then update the XP.

i need to try this slip streaming

I can believe wireless might not work, but... even ethernet won't work?
