there is no more windows media player for mac. You will need flip4mac. It is still in beta, but should be available very soom. til then you could try vlc

I'll second the recommendation for VLC, has done a good job of handling every WMV file I've thrown at it.

I use Mplayer, however VLC is a great player as well.

Basically it comes down to what you like, give both Mplayer and VLC a shot and see what you like better.

Yeah no problem, I haven't closely looked at the site that hosts mplayer OS X located here http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net/ but I think it has been recompiled for intel mac, it can be a somewhat laggy sometimes... actually since I put in 2GB of ram it works perfectly fine, so it was probably lack of ram space.

Anyways, it doesn't seem to support mkv files, there might be an addon somewhere, thats something I'll have to check out about, I have just been so busy lately with work I still have a lot left to do with my new Macbook. xD

I haven't checked out VLC on OS X yet, I'll probably do that, I just like mplayer because it has better postprocessing, on the site I linked above you can see an example of what I mean, it may be barely noticable, but I like all I can get.

to open a sitx package you need the stuff-it expander. you should still be able to get flip4mac, even if it is in a beta. i haven't used it personally, so i cannot vouch for it. i also second vlc as an all around video player.

The Flip4Mac beta was only public for one day and then they closed it again, unfotunately. I was able to get it and it does work very well. Best part is it is completely transparent.

Actually there is Windows Media player for mac, I found it on my Office 2004 disc when I installed it on my mac. I didn't install it because quite frankly I hate windows media player.

Correct, but it is no longer supported by Microsoft and they no longer allow you to download it from them. Plus the Office 2004 version you have may not work because Rosetta may not run it. Not every PPC app can run in rosetta. Microsoft has licensed the codec to Flip4Mac to be given away for free, but the Universal Binary is not yet ready.
