So I'm in the process of burning a DVD on iDVD and um on istat it says something's gobbling up space on my hard drive....what's going on?
Like, is that, like, supposed to happen?
-
yep its caching the files before it burns them its faster that way they should only be temporary
-
um iDVD like froze up twice right before burning the DVD...turns out my superdrive can only burn 6x but the DVDs I bought can burn up to 8x....
-
its not the drive. the dvd CAN be burned at 8x, but rarely do things ever achieve their max listed speed. 4x is probably realistic in this case. and the dvd will just be written to slower, there isn't any incompatibility problems, they are just saying that in the off chance your drive can spit out info at 8x, then the dvd can handle it.

I'm presuming the DVD you're burning is of the iMovie project you were talking about here, in which case your movie is in DV format and needs to be transcoded to MPEG2 before it can be burnt to disc. This is a very CPU intensive task and will possibly take several hours... so iDVD may not have locked up, it's just busy.
why is my computer gobbling up space on my hard drive?
