Apple likes to think of itself as a giant killer valiently protecting us from microsoft. However they are not valiently protecting us from intel. At the moment there are exactly 4 companies in the world that can make cpu's. A loss of any one of these companies would be a tragedy. There are any number of people that can write operating systems without billion dollar investments. Therefore it would be better to lose apple operating systems than 1 chip maker.

    Troll much?

Apple is self sufficient and not in debt which is good for a company. They can make both hardware and software. They are also doing way better then AMD along with their new purchase designed to keep them out of the red which was ATI (and not doing so well).

Apple has never stated they are "defending" anyone from anyone. They are simply one of the main competitors to the Microsoft operating system and now utilize it as well and can run both a Unix platform along with the microsoft platform.

The PPC processors used to compete with the Intel chips. Now Intel and Apple are currently co-operating as Intel chips are now standard in Apple computers.

When has apple asked for 1 billion dollars to work on their OS? They can also go back and use alternate processors just as easily as anyone else.

What is the purpose of your thread with little facts?

Don't know if it's your intention but this seem like trolling to me. I'll close it.
