Hello i have decided to offload my alienware desktop, the minute i get a sale i have 2000-2500 to spend on a macbook. Basically i have decided against the macbook base. Simply because thier is no illuminated keyboard :( i cant see spending 1599 for one. ( the cpu /hdd differnce is not relevant to me) I have it down to :

Base macbook pro (will upgrade to 4 gig if i need it)
Macbook air revised model (will it handle final cut? where is the blu ray usb drive and can this macbook even play blur rays?)
refurb 17" macbook pro ( looks cool but its the older model im sure 4 gig 667mhz would be faster then 2 gig 1066 mhz)
clearance macbook pro 15.4 (brand new but older model, 512mb graphics!)

the only reason why im not getting the latest macbook pro offright is because i really am not keen on the glare loving screen and the black border on the monitor. also i wanted the form factor of the macbook 13"....

gaming wise i want to max everything older than 2004, would be nice to max anything older than 2006-7( bf 2142)
video editing: i will be editing non hd video on a daily basis, hd would be a plus.... monitor size is not an issue becuase i have a 27" dell monitor.

MBA for Blu-Ray and Final Cut? Absolutely NO. Even if you get one without core shutdown problems, the 1.8GHz CPU will struggle to handle blu-ray smoothly.

If you get a chance to see a mb in person I would give it a try out first. I too was also a bit down on the black boarder, but its starting to grow on me after I had a play last weekend. Also the shinny screen may not be as much of an issue for you, its really something you have to see to judge for yourself. There is also some talk of matte screen protectors being made like those for the iphone. So this could be a help.

i played around with both the MB and the MBP in the bright apple shop and the glare was not a problem granted might be a little issue if its in sunlight but its no were near as bad as my hp 2133 which is practically a mirror
