I believe all Apple products are made in China...if you've seen enough Apple packaging, you'll be familiar with the line, in big words, "Designed by Apple in California", and somewhere in small lettering, "Assembled in China" :p.

Well, nearly the entire tech industry does its manufacturing in China. If Apple did all their manufacturing in North America, imagine the costs! How in the world would Apple be able to compete, when everyone else in the industry is in China?

As I've stated many times before, its very hard not to feel "unease" when reading through forums. You see tons of threads stating problems with this and problems with that...but what you have to remember is that it is a forum.

Forums are for asking questions and answering them. People with problematic products will obviously post about it, either venting about it or trying to get help to fix it. How often do you see "I HAVE NO PROBLEMS!" threads? Rarely, because usually the users post "I HAVE A PROBLEM!" threads because they want to get help for the issue.

And also, you have to put into consideration, Apple sold 2 million Macs last quarter. If only 1% of those Macs had an issue, that's 20'000 Macs with issues. Say only 10% of those users with a problematic Mac goes to a forum. Still, that is 2000 Mac users posting about their problems!

That is why you often will get a false impression of a product's quality control by looking at the forum.

Well, then again China is doing other stuff for this country too... Like allowing us to borrow 2-Billion to pay for our military’s fueling costs over seas, so that we can help protect our nations biggest oil supplier (IRAQ), which in turn requires us to borrow more money from China to pay for the fuel needed to protect the Iraqi fuel supply. Also…some food for thought…which country is also one of our nations biggest threats? Hint… its not IRAQ…When will this vicious cycle end?
    …stepping down off my soapbox…

However, Apple products are definitely the wave of the future! I just hope that Jobbs is smarter than Gates in the world of DRM's! Hopefully Jobbs wont sell his sole to the devil too!

    Ok...sorry for the rant folks!

Aren't all notebooks manufactured in China? Moreover, isn't almost all tech based manufacturing done in China?

    Thats Shanghai China,

China is by far an away responsible for todays computer manufacturing irregardless of brand name. Some parts/machines are also made in Korea, Taiwan, and even Japan.

I really hope that America could stop looking at the rest of the world as potential enemy's. Being different doesn't make us wrong or right, just different, and I think that's a bit of difference in the world is good thing. By creating a "your with us or against us black and white line in sand" mentality you polarize people and create enemy's, which adds to the worlds problems not solves them

    On topic,
there are a number around 4 or so major companies that do most/all of the tech manufacturing, for everyone, eg dell, hp apple etc. Some names to look up include ASUS, quanta, ecs, foxconn, most of these are now located or moving the majority of there production plants to china for cost.

I've got no issues with China over workmanship as others have said most electrical equipment is made there very sucessfully. For me it's just the civil rights and liberties, human rights, censorship, no overall right for workers to form a union nationwide, Tibet, widescale environmental damage (serious pollution of rivers etc)...... and so on.. that I don't like.

Not ALL notobooks are mafunactured in China. Dell manufactures a lot of their laptops in Malaysia as well as other companies. South Korea also assembles some.

They pay a hell of lot! Rich yuppies are those working for western companies. im glad apples are made in china and sorts :p usually good quality.

btw off topic, where can i find someone who can convince me to buy a mac, im 50/50 here :p

looks cool, sounds good, but im afraid of compatibility issues, such as games, designing programs and more.

My HP is made in Singapore (with imported components, mostly from China), another one is "assembled in Australia". It depends on the manufacturer, but afaik, no first tier OEM manufacture in the US (they assemble some in the US, but with imported components from China too). Apple outsources 100% of its manufacturing.

Are the Intel processors still fabricated in N. America? I can recall that the silcon wafers after fabrication used to be shipped to Far East to be put into the packaging i.e. connecting the silcon by fine gold wires to the pins in the package.

But the MBP discolors if you have sweaty palms. Say the paint rubs onto your palms and then you eat a sandwich or something without washing your hands. Wouldn't you be consuming minimal traces of lead then?

Paint? The palmrests are aluminum. There isn't any paint there (not in that area at least).

It'll pit and corrode and discolor, but there's no lead there.
