September events are usually late, September 22 has been mentioned. However, it's supposed to be an iPod, iPhone, iTunes event. If there isn't a major redesign for notebooks, they'll usually just refresh it quietly and it can happen anytime. Out of the 5 MacBook version, 2 of them have been refreshed in November. The others were 1 in February and 2 in May. So I wouldn't rely on a MacBook refresh in September. But don't quote me on that. :)

I think a MacBook Pro and MacBook Air refresh will likely come together and come first. Likely in October which has happened before for the MacBook Pro.

whatever happened to apple "getting intel parts first." Apple fans have always told me that apple will be better than anything else because they get intels new releases before everyone...sounds to me like they are at least 3 month behind everybody else in terms of centrino 2...

Apple is always unique in the crowd, it won't release products along with everyone else. There have been cases where Apple launches new Intel components before they are even officially announced (as was the case with the iMac), but otherwise, Apple will wait behind everyone else if they can't get it before. They just won't release it at the same time as Dell, HP, Acer, Toshiba, etc.

In this particular case, I'm pretty sure its not an Apple + Intel issue, but rather Apple waiting until the Back-to-School promotion is over as that helps clear out old stock.

Right :). So we can probably expect new iPods around that time. It may be a week earlier but they'll note that the promotion does not apply to new iPods.

Well, with high natural gas pricing predicted for this winter and apple going green, maybe their plans for the laptop to double as a space heater are finally coming to fruition.

It's the price you pay for innovation I guess.... considering how thin the MBP is, it really limits it's cooling ability. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but still..

The guy who leaked the new iPod designs was saying Apple would have it's conference/keynote speech with Steve Jobs on September 9th.

Wow, really a keynote? I thought those were limited to MW and WWDC? If Steve is making an appearance a blowout announcement across multiple lines might not be too far off.

Apple usually has extra events between MacWorld and WWDC dates. A keynote in September is the norm now for new iPod announcements!

Just curious, how could they change around the IPod lineup? New IPod Touch design? Super Nano Shuffle? WiFi syncing of iTunes library to your IPod? Having an event just for IPod's doesn't seem feasible. I'm thinking strongly that the supposed event on September 9th will have more "surprises" in store for us than just new IPod models.

My hope is for a revamped Mac Mini. That has been one model Apple hasn't updated in ages. At least an update to use the new Intel X4500 integrated graphics, as well as processor bumps, and the ability to easily upgrade the hard-drive and memory are all I ask for. :p

What I have heard is that their is going to be a pretty big reduction in the price of the iPod touch, to be more in line with the iPhones price.. Also iTunes 8 is possibly going to have a unlimited plan, and I have heard it is going to be able to scan your music and make recommendations on other music you may like.

I REALLY hope your right about the Mini, I have been holding off buying one hoping that they will update it.

That's how it has been for the past three years now :p. iPod + iTunes is the centerpiece of the September keynotes. The Touch is expected to have minor design changes reminiscent of the new iPhone, there isn't much news about the Shuffle but the design is a little old now, the Nano has lots of rumours of a redesign.

There's also probably likely iTunes 8, whatever that brings.

It would be awesome to get the Nehalem and usb 3.0 But I really don't think that will happen. But it would be nice future proofing.

I've said this a couple times, I think it will be the second Tuesday of September that they will announce new stuff. I really hope they are not waiting until January for new macbooks.

I don't believe they will hold out until January, that's just a little too far for the components, at least for the MBP which has always kept up with component updates.

Odd, I read USB 3.0 would not be ready until the end of 2009. It's been approved from what I understand but won't hit the market in a big way until the end of 09

I'm pretty sure Intel has just released the USB 3.0 controller spec to third parties and that the spec is still in draft form. The chances of the upcoming Mac refreshes including USB 3.0 are pretty much nil. Besides, USB 3.0 requires new cables so even if Apple decides to go it alone early, there wouldn't be any cables, much less devices.

The more likely port improvement in Macs is to support Firewire S3200 since it's just an expansion on Firewire 800 and doesn't require new cables. Plus it's Apple's own spec. Firewire S3200 is also fast enough to compete against eSATA and is more ideal for portability since it is bus-powered.

Wireless USB is also possible to address the complaints that the MBA doesn't have enough USB ports for expansion.

USB 3.0 is backwards compatible so even if there isn't anything that uses it it will be a really nice thing to have for future proofing. But yeah, there probably not going to be getting them but Nehalem would be nice.

Ha! I should have thought about that before selling mine. For now I can live with just the iMac in the house. I've gone back to a gaming notebook for this week at least. There are so many good PC games coming out. Sure those games are on the console too, but my kids hog that.

A lot of other sources are saying he is wrong. Apple keeps the lines separate. Besides, why upset all the people who just bought MacBooks in August and September by releasing something new? If they wait till October they will clear the return period too. ;)

Hopefully we get HDMI and HD optical drives. Apple is seriously lagging even the low end now in terms of features. If a $500 Dell has HDMI, why not Apple? If a $1000 Acer has Blu Ray why not Apple?

Intel's X4500HD is a pretty cool upgrade over X3100 too.

Should be a pretty big update and it can't come fast enough.

Nehalem won't be in portables until Spring/Summer next year. It is a huge update.

USB 3.0 is built into the new Southbridge. It costs Apple nothing to have it. It will be there for sure. Also eSata/USB combo ports are in teh market already - its a 2 birds withy 1 stone scenario that probably appeals to Apple.

I can see Firewire going entirely Pro only (MP and MBP).

Yes, but apple is working with intel, just like with the macbook air. You never know we could see them :D it would be awesomness if we did.
