I'm finallly making the switch to the other side. Are there any incompatibility issues with my macbook pro? Do all the bootcamp drivers work? anything i should cater for??

p.s: this should be in this forum and not in windows forum as most windows users use windows on a pc and not on a mac.

Other than a crappy battery life, and a hotter running notebook because Apple did not care to optimize the drivers for lower power...

    Yeah, it will work though.

ok, so the crappy battery life is when compared to os x? or to windows 7 32 bit?

i know for a fact that the mac runs generally hotter in windows than in os x but i dont know if w7 64 bit consumes more power than 32bit. eg: i'm currently on windows and have just powered on my laptop...my gpu temp is already at 71c. my battery life is ~1.30...with all power saving features disabled and screen on max, i get less than 1 hour. :D

W7 will consume about the same amount of power in x86 or x64...provided the drivers are written with equal power management and efficiency.

Battery life in OS X is good. Windows? Not so much at all.

There is more to battery life than just the OS...it is driver quality too. Apple fails in this regard if you ask me.

yeah. the main reason behind this is that apple wants it's customers to stick on os x when using their macs lineup. Lots of people have complained about battery life when using bootcamp, but apple has done very little to address this problem. i hope i will be satisfied with future power drivers from apple. thanks for the heads up bro.

Just for kicks, I installed W7 Pro 32-bity on my unibody 17, and the battery life in Windows is about half what it is in SL (at least just from the battery reading).

if you truly have a 1st gen Macbook Pro.. then you have to run 32bit win7 on it, since it doesn't have a 64 bit processor.... if its the newer one thats in your Sig... win7 64bit should be great... I haven't seen any reason to run 32 bit versions of Windows anymore.

Works fine, Appls drivers are pretty bad though, the ONLY apple driver I use is the touchpad ..... as for battery life its roughly half because we are locked out of the 9400m pretty much and forced to use the 9600... why cant they make the switchable graphics work like Lenovo, ASUS and others?

How is Windows 7 battery life on a 13" MBP with only the 9400 graphics? Windows 7 performance in general?

I can speak to Win Server 2008 R2, which is basically Win7 - My MBP 13 battery life is close, but no cigar when comparing to my Mac OS sessions.

Where I see 5-6 hours in Mac OS, I might see 4-5 hours in Windows 7/R2.

Its not that dramatic when you get to use the 9400M as those of us with the 13s and some 15s do.

One note: You should ALWAYS (regardless of drivers) tweak windows power settings to maximize this - I keep mine pretty performance-oriented, which is why I think I see such less efficient results.

Let me know if you have any questions about the MBP 13.

Because they don't want you to use Windows?
