Will show 2.75GB-3.5GB depending on the motherboard and drivers.

In short, no, it does not support all 4GB of RAM.

So it doesnt help vista in bootcamp with more than 3Gb of Ram, right?
I'd like to know in fact if it's useful to get 4Gb instead of 3Gb.
From the windows point of view and from the OSX point of view.
OSX Tiger and Leopard are both 64bits OS's, so, would it make a point to use more than 2Gb (obviously 4Gb) In a macbook pro,
I'm working on final cut, 3dsmax, after effects, 3Dmark06, And Solitaire :)
So, is 4Gb more useful (even a bit) than 3Gb for both vista and Mac OS X?

I got 3GB and it works great. You want to use all these applications in both Vista and OSX?
OSX does support 4GB yes. Vista 64bit in boot camp would support it too however Apple does not do driver support for 64bit. I have heared of people finding their own drivers but it is hard.

It doesn't support more than 3gb of ram? That's pretty weird, do they plan to update it? Vista recommends 4 gb. I have 6! (I do a lot of video editing and stuff). I don't really have a reason to use Vista right now, but I sure hope that they fix that when the time comes.

WinXP 32 bit also only supports about 3GB. Not a Vista problem but a 32bit problem. With Vista 64bit you can use 4 or more, I think the limit is 128GB but from a the technology side it could use more.

the limit is MUCH lower than 128 GB using standard tech. normal desktop pc's don't support anywhere NEAR 128 GB on the chipset.

at most maybe a pc would support 32 GB in like a 4 GB x 8 set up. crazy expensive and a huge tower.

i dont think any laptop supports more than 4 GB total. most normal desktops probably support either 4 or 8 GB max.

    to answer the OP question:

go ahead and get 4 Gigs of ram. Vista might only recognize 3 but since you have two channels going it will have more bandwidth.

Also, especially with video editing, the more ram the better. osx will make use of all of it.

I think 32 bit vista will use "more than 3 but less than 4" - so you will still see some ram benefit just in amount. plus- again - you will have two channels open so your ram will have more bandwidth. go with 4.

also, if you ever get 64 bit vista, then both osx and vista will be able to benefit from the full set of ram.

What's the outlook for 64bit Vista and Bootcamp in the next few months?
